Issues with the DayZ Community - rant, troll and general speculation.

Recommended Posts

This post is part speculation, part troll. Im guessing there are going to be a number of disagreements. But... eh.

I love DayZ - played religiously for awhile now. Died from hackers and enjoyed the whole experience as much as the next guy / girl.

There are a couple of trends that I notice with the forums which just... annoy me.

The idea that: Its not against the rules, so I can use / do it. Good examples being using hacked in weapons which they find... AS50's with thermal scopes as an example. Yes, its not against the rules. But your as bad as the hackers - and I mean this for weapons which you know are hacked in, not the ones that you cant tell (eg M4 silenced). Theres a post and video in the new players section which shows a player with the AS50 TS, Not going to name names but the owner posts a post saying... I didn't spawn it, I found it. Then dupped it for my friends. Its not against the rules and I can't be banned so its ok! *face palm* I'm not even going to go into why this is ruining dayz for everyone. It should be obvious.

The idea that admins are out to get you. We run our own server after getting into a situation where we believed an admin abused power (by turning the veteran server to recruit so could find his lost truck). I look at it this way though... If every server that a player complained for admin abuse was blacklisted. There would be no more official hive servers. No more hive servers means you are restricted to private hives which can be turned off / banned for whatever reason. Generally admins are not out to get you, and if you do suspect foul play.... lets not start a jihad to get that server blacklisted. Just move on to another server. Or, better yet... get some friends together and hire your own server and become a role model admin yourself. That would solve more issues than creating post after post to get a server banned. (note, we haven't had any forum posts demanding blacklisting yet. Knock on wood!)

Well thats my rant. Yup. Done. All gone. End of the day everyone seems to have forgotten this is an Alpha. Who cares about hackers and admin abuse - yes it sucks. But everything will be better with the stand alone which should fix pretty much all these issues. (esp hackers) Think.. all your tents, hele's, trucks, cars, hacked in weapons, dupped weapons, zomibie kills, player kills, GPS, night-vision, radios will all disappear when the game does come out, or even when the stand alone goes Beta - which makes all these items worthless. so why sweat the small things?

You are deluded if you think standalone is going to stop the cheaters. Every other game has them, why would this be different?

its not going to stop the cheaters - no delusions there!

Its just going to make it harder. Fewer cheaters = good in my books.

Heres a good example of another post from another thread which is yet another prime example of what is wrong with this community.

As the ]edited out[ Gaming Server Technician I would like to let you all know that ]edited out[ does not and will not condone hacking on any of our servers. All of our gear has been legitimately obtained from raiding bases on not only our servers but many others. Yes, we are in possession of "hacked" weapons, but none of the ]edited out[ Members nor any of the people that we play with have hacked. We are strongly against any and all forms of hacking and we strongly support the DayZ community ban list and BattlEye. Possessing the weapons is not cheating and is not against any rules.

The reason they cant stop most of the cheating now is because fixing script injection would require an ARMA 2 patch. If they patched all of ARMA 2 to fix this, it would break most every other mod out there.

Standalone will be able to outright remove the most devastating hacks currently being used (i.e. teleporting, godmode and spawning things). I don't know if they will be able to stop passive things like ESP and whatnot, but at least the most egregious examples will be squashed. Punishments for duping items will also be enforceable once they add unique IDs to all items and regularly audit the database.

Most of my sour behavior toward other survivors came from getting hack-killed when I first started playing. Standalone will bring tens of thousands of new players that will help re-build server communities.

This thread sucks. I wish there was an equivalent to an internet lynch mob to run you out of town. :D

I am Sorry. I will hit my head against the wall 10 times to make up for my failure and think twice before ranting again.

But I do wish you would be more constructive in your feedback. :D

Totally get what you mean. I was more talking about the dayz forum communities. Apart from hackers I haven't really had many issues with players in game.

Still can't beat the mod for the gut wrenching feeling you get when you encounter a hostile player.

Too right OP, +1 internets for you good sir! tongue.gif

The prevalence of hacked-in weapons does not justify their use when presented with the opportunity. I find it fascinating that the community is generally galvanized against hacking within the game, yet some players are willing to scavenge the resulting illegitimate items, all the while having the audacity to claim that because an item was spawned in by someone else, their use of it is somehow rationalized. That is flawed logic, if nothing else.

Cognitive dissonance at it's finest...

Thanks NZStalker.

In a self proclaimed troll thread? No. I do appreciate you beating yourself though. No beans, but you have a little respect from me.
