Bliss, CD Key?

Recommended Posts

Hello folks!

I'm looking to set up my own private server. I've been looking at dayzprivate.com (Bliss). I'm a linux sysadmin by trade, so the windows end of the pool is a little murky for me. But, overall the instructions are straight forward and I am confident I can muddle through it.

One question: Can I install Arma2/OA from Steam, and use that as a dedicated server, and then join it using that same CD Key and Steam install on another machine? Or does it check CD Key and disallow this? I'll buy another copy of Arma2/OA if I really have to, but it would seem at least within the *spirit* of the license to allow me to run a server and play on it without buying two keys.

Well that slightly sucks. Is there a download-service that will sell me Arma2/OA other than steam? I really don't want to get a set of discs for this.

Hmm as far as i know, the actual server doesnt have anything to do with cdkey.

Its the people joining the server, that gets checked.

Ive ran a server and played from the same computer, if your theory is correct, that would have "dupped" my cd-key and kicked either the server or my cleint.

Seing as 2 of the same cant be online :)

I believe it can be done, as you dont even need to have steam running, once its downloaded. Steam is just a fancy download program for arma really.

Try it mate, im sure its possible.

The only problem you might run into, is steam not allowing 2x same user to be connected, but again, its only need for download and then a first time run of all arma games.

After that its, bye bye steam hehe

Eh, I already bought it from a place called gamersgate. $30 is still less than I'd pay for a vilayer.com server even for one month, so I got over myself and pulled the trigger. I have it downloading now, so I can get started after work. \:D/

To bad mate.

You could get a refund if it works with 1 cd-key ;)

Technically, the only file that runs on the server is "arma2oaserver.exe" (or something like that) in the expansion/beta directory. You will need all the files in ARMA on the server though. The server would wait for you to start the mission after you run the exe (in server list is should show "Creating"). then you can launch the same version of Arma on your other PC and start the server. What you can't do is run server.exe and launch the game to start the server, then play the game on another PC with the same CD/Game key. I haven't tested this completely, but this is my understanding of how it works. The server .exe doesn't need a CD Key to run. This is how people can have multiple servers running off the same copy of the game on different PC/Servers or virtual machines.
