Distinction between bandit and murderer?

Recommended Posts

I think. If you want to kill, and can kill, you obviously kill people. The only result in my opinion should be that you lose some rounds and someone dies. Sure i hate those fellas who snipe fresh spawns but in the end they are just wasting ammunition, though they propably have duped it alot.

Personally, i always kill if i have the upper hand and the other guy is armed, or im in need of a bandage.

The way I look at it is this: you kill for fun (that includes noobs), you're a murderer, you kill for loot, you're a murderer, you kill in self defense, you're a murderer.

The only difference (to me) is that killing someone in self defense may be, MAY BE, justifiable since your life was/ is in danger and it's the "it's either him or me" situation. But even then certain conditions must be fulfilled for it to be justifiable self defense. Otherwise it's just murder or manslaughter as well.

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a cold blooded murderer in game. I shoot everyone who is not a friendly. I also tend to shoot more noobs with no equipment inland than at the coast so I'm not sure why there is the constant bambi killer crying marathon...

I'm not saying we should ban the Bambi killers or something, and I don't care what word you use to describe them. Murderer, thrill killer, bandit, whatever. I'm just saying, if we're already making bandits identifiable with a different skin, why not introduce another skin identifying people who make it their job to kill defenseless targets. I accept them as part of the game.

I think the problem you really have with my suggestion is that you're concerned about ending up with a skin identifying you as a Bambi killer.

I agree that there are times when you have to kill them. Once I allowed someone to pick up a gun, and of course they immediately killed me after I helped them out. Because of that, anyone who goes for a gun in my presence gets shot. But that doesn't happen very often at all. If the Bambi killer skin requires at least 2 Bambi kills, I'd almost never get one.

Bambi seems like a misnomer for the average player in DayZ, Rooburger. Just because they are unarmed does not mean they can not take a gun out of your backpack and blow your brains out. Nor does it mean they might notice the sniper on freelook, without giving that away, find a shotgun in the town the sniper is watching then ghost to directly behind sniper and kill him. Also some bandits RP to the extent that they "own" a town and everything in it. Why should some jerk take MY gear, they ask.

Still, if they keep skins they should have a psycho skin. On further consideration of this i considered a prison jumpsuit, with a rattling handcuff hanging from one hand. I hope they go back to regular skins tho and just have more attainable skins like the ghillie/camo etc. The idea that most people will react differently based on skin is silly. You can't have a stand-off situation in DayZ, like in the films, where you both just aim at each other and talk. That would be dumb. As in RL, one person can pull the trigger and the other is dead before even seeing the flash. So I don't understand how people can be robbed in DayZ, unless they are unarmed and as such have nothing to loot. Not to mention people just quitting the game if you try to hold them up "honorably" ;/

I really couldn't give a shit what people call them, I just noticed some other people calling newly spawned players that. I like "Bambi" because it's humourous though. I definitely don't assume they're harmless, it's just less challenging to kill them.

OP is bang on the money. A bandit will be creative and kill only those that may possess gear that is useful to them. A murderer will sit in elektro with an as50 counting his murders. There is a massive difference.

IRL that might be the case...in DayZ however a bandit kills for loot, a murderer kills for loot/kills, a survivor kills for loot...all the same. Roleplaying a robbery isn't an option until they fix the dc/alt-f4 problem, most players would try to fight and die in the process anyway if they couldn't dc in this situation.

Just that it has nothing to do with realism having certain skin based on how you play. Rather add a mechanism to search people and then have your revenge. The dogs might be for this.. If you get killed and within one hour(or until it rains) of this you have yourself a dog(or you hire someone with a dog) and you can point it where to take scent it will follow the trail up to the player, or to the point where he disconnected..

While it would be funny killing peeps wearing clown costume, I think it should be at most an option to wear it after you meet the criteria, not something that is forced.

BTW, I wouldn't mind at all if they removed skins which are based on player behaviour. I'd actually rather keep DayZ less "gamey" and not punish or reward any behaviour other than survival. But if bandit skins are going to stay, this thread is my suggestion.

well, in the future with the promised social application that rocket promised you may be able become friends with friendlies and see their stats, spies lol, also join them if you want, thats the way to go, it could be "unrealistic" but it will help us forge friendships and alliances inside the game, not only that if someone accessed my page they would be able to know that i am a bandit, although the application should be outside of the game, like dayz commander, keeping it real where you want it to be.

simplifiying the reasons for non consensual murder, material need, psychological need. Simplily people can have more reasons to kill than just for fun, fun can be the end but not reason, the reason i can kill can be many, creating excuses for this is easy, fun can be also the reason and since we know its only game and player wont lose anything IRL people will continue killing. well, knowing and identifying the reasons is kind of interesting, but everyone already knows

Lol, personally I couldn't care less about some skin. Dress me up as clown, Freddie Krueger, Eric Cartman, a prisoner, it does not matter. It will not affect the way I am playing and will be playing this game.

I'd just like to say, I don't care where you spawn, where you are, who you are. I will shoot you because you dead is my goal. However since I rarely need loot found on a body, I don't bother taking your stuff. I leave it for someone who does need it, and chances are after I shoot them the cycle continues.

And please don't beg me to stop, I won't. I am all for having a dedicated skin for people like me.

I'm not begging you to stop. Killing people like you is one of the best feelings I've ever had in a video game. I don't want you to go away.

Good man. Hope to see you in game :D

Though I was referring to in game VOIP last night when these guys literally begged me not to shoot them.

Hehe, remember, that's part of the game too. Begging not to be killed is a legitimate way to avoid death if you can get it to work.

Well, that's what I started the thread about.

Well to me, judging from the headline and content of most of your op, it seemed as though you were asking/ wondering if there is a difference between someone murdering someone else for loot or fun. The skin idea/ distinction seemed like an after thought, not like the actual topic at hand.

That's not quite true. I am by and large a Murderer. I kill for sport, but there is no sport to be found with 900m sniper kills. I will stalk you, wait for you to do something like loot, eat, etc and then take you out. Playing the psychological game is also fun.

"Here is a map dude, Go to that mart over there I will cover you" BANG bullet to the head. Things like that is where I get my murderer kicks.

Then you misunderstood.
