Ello - Wall of text inc,

So i'm running along the tree line near Prigordski heading to one of my camps, when i notice another player. It is dark out, but i can see with gamma cranked. It's a survivor armed with a hatchet.

After i noticed the hatchet i assumed he wasn't a thread. He was, after all, about 30 ft away from me. I say "Hey" through my mic, and "Ello" though direct communication.

I get no responce.

He starts running towards me. Not sprint running mind you, just jogging up to me.

I say through VOIP "Stop or your getting shot" and aim my AKS-74U at him. He doesn't stop.

I fire a small burst (3-4 bullets) and he collapses on the ground. At first i thought i hadn't killed him and was going to bandage, but then i heard flies. I guess i hit him in the head.

Apon inspecting his body he had Nightvision, a Rangefinder, and a radio. He had all this, but he was only armed with a hatchet. wtf?

I can only assume he was doing loot runs into Cherno or something and had his gear stashed at camp. I didn't check his backpack for fear he had a friend nearby.

About 20 seconds later i see "Player Derek has disconnected : Battleye Client not responding."

I guess he ragequit :(

Was i justified in this? He knew where i was, he had night vision. He was walking towards me with a hatchet. Perhaps he was playing Night-bandit madman? Or maybe he was just a friendly who had stashed his stuff and was searching for supplies?

You tell me.

I've found radio's off of bodies, and I picked it up, so obviously I was a hacker for having one. Oh...... Oh, wait.

Completely justified. People need to learn to comm. He had no reason to continue in your direction except to grief/kill you if he wasn't communicating.

They can be legitimitely found on Military Zombies near radio stations, IE green moutain.

I don't understand why you replied to me, as if I was being serious, or something.

I assumed you were making the point that just because somebody has a radio, doesn't mean they are a hacker. I was reinforcing this point by saying that they can also be legitimately picked up so there is no relation between someone who has a radio and a hacker.

Sounds like dude was loot farming (no equipment on him so he can fill his inventory without losing his good stuff) and decided to see if he could get your stuff too. No harm done, he'll just respawn.

External storage is awesome.

Yeah this sounds about right. I frequently do this, i just don't do it with NVG's and Rangefinders equipped.

In Pigorodski ? I doubt it. A fair kill to you OP. People often see a hatchet guy as as a none threat. Having used the hatchet to kill many a sniper and grieving bandit, i know how much of a threat they are if a guy gets the drop on you. That coupled with the fact you gave him a verbal warning and he pressed on, means you did the right thing. As to what he was doing, my conclusion is that he found those on a dead body perhaps. A check of the backpack could have confirmed this (if empty or useless gear).

I think it's justified. No response, came at you, and even if the hatchet isn't considered as threatening as a gun, if they get close enough and you aren't paying attention, they can be even deadlier than a gun. Anyone with any sort of smarts would know to not run up to a person wielding an axe and no communication and expect it to turn out well lol

You gave him the opportunity to communicate and in doing so showed your intentions as being friendly. Yet he decided on a course of action which forced your hand, so no doubt it was a justified kill...

dude coming at you with an axe? without communicating in any way his intentions? I'd kill him any day.

You gave him warning, he made no effort to communicate his intentions before approaching, totally justified in a lawless world.

You turned your gamma up, imo you cheated to get a kill and it should count as a bandit kill.

Who are you trying to justify your kill to and why?

I'm not honestly sure. I don't make it my mission to kill people, and i'm always interested in these sort of debates. "Should i have killed this guy"... It's just an interesting question to ponder.

Well for what it's worth he had night vision and a hacked-in radio. It's not like you can see far with gamma cranked, you can just get your bearings. I should have seen that guy 200 yards out.
