Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted September 27, 2012 Wouldn't say get rid of them, just make them extremly hard to find.... mind you if it wasn't for scripters or dupers............
velvetpipe 4 Posted September 27, 2012 keep them they make the game fun and gives a player a goal to achieve.
terex 322 Posted September 27, 2012 Wouldn't say get rid of them, just make them extremly hard to find.... mind you if it wasn't for scripters or dupers............Yeah if they couldn't be duped or spawned in, they are extremely rare. I have never found a pair that wasn't from a tent or on someones body. I wouldn't be sad to see them go though. This games lighting is amazing at night.
merrfack 90 Posted September 28, 2012 I agree with all above.
Rastamaus 323 Posted September 28, 2012 sad when you think just how much harm the dupers and hackers have done to DayZ. Most players now seem to have a full toolbelt including radio, rangefinders, night vision, ghillie suit, coyote pack, silenced pistol, mountain dew, camo clothing, AS50 (often with hacked TWS sights) and other supposedly rare items.Chernarus now feels less like the setting for a zombie apocalypse and more like a bizarre holiday camp for special forces fantasists.
TheDesigner 1197 Posted September 28, 2012 Get rid of GPS, NVGs, and L85. All require batteries, you all want a realistic mod, so these dont fit. They'd run out of batteries within a month of infection.
Physsion 6 Posted September 28, 2012 The NVGs a very unique item in the way that they open enormous opportunities for new game play styles and tactics for players - I think it'd be a shame to see them go. While flares, chemlights and flashlights are a fun, unique and eerie way to play the game at night, I think players lucky enough to find such a (what should be, and what was intentionally) rare item should be rewarded accordingly.Once the standalone arrives and hacking/duping/scripting becomes a thing of the past (or so we hope!) then they will, once again, be a very rare and coveted "end-game" item as opposed to something you're more likely to find in a tent or player's tool belt than a toolbox these days.I found my first "legit" pair of NVGs from a crashed helicopter yesterday - before then, I'd gone through many many pairs from tents and dead players. Picking them up off the ground for the first time was a really cool feeling, knowing I was truly deserving of them as opposed to feeling like they were probably scripted or duped in. If they were removed, I'd miss them for all the gameplay opportunities they unlock - am looking forward to riding my bike around Chernarus under the cover of darkness tonight.Besides, what kind of game would it be if you could feel perfectly safe at night, knowing the only player threat to you was someone else wandering around town with a flashlight for you to spot? That feeling of paranoia, knowing there could be someone watching you from the top of a hill through a DMR scope in total darkness is a terrifying concept, and without it there'd be almost no incentive to loot high value areas like the barracks or airfields during the day.
Kajin 25 Posted September 28, 2012 I've never found a pair of NVG's, legitimate or otherwise. I don't get why people keep saying they're so common they ruin the game.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted September 28, 2012 Yep, anything with batteries needs to be turfed.Unless batteries are added.
merrfack 90 Posted September 28, 2012 Yep, anything with batteries needs to be turfed.Unless batteries are added. I agree... flashlights, range finders, NVG's, anything with batteries should have a life... including mil dot and optics that require batteries. IMO
Kajin 25 Posted September 28, 2012 Fine then, add batteries then. Just because an item requires batteries doesn't mean it needs to be axed. Even better, add several different kinds of batteries. Flashlight might take AA batteries whereas NVG's might take D batteries. Or however it works in Soviet Russia. Maybe the D batteries take NVG's instead? sheriffhd 61 Posted September 28, 2012 Tehy earn their place in cherno, If you was to say cliche line of "If you want realistic than batteries would be needed" to which we can argue that, well food and ammo would both go out of date and become unusable after a while so get rid of bullets.Saying nerf/turf something because you dont like it is a silly idea, doesn't matter how you try to word it, silly none the less.As it stands adding in batteries and a system to get it to work evenly would be a waste of resources IMHO.NVGs are good, so is the thermal L85, but i cant ever use mine in the day because i suck with it in the day,When the standalone comes out, and hopefully less hackers/dupers are around than NVGs will feel more balanced because it will take forever to find a pair unless you are lucky.I mean as it stands, it took me 8 days of 8hour average sessions in dayz before my character found a pair of NVGs at the NW airfield, but i got killed soon as i left the barracks which sucked. but still as it stands its already rare as hell and balanced. Hackers/dupers just make it too easy :(
mibz0r 141 Posted September 28, 2012 (edited) This games lighting is amazing at night. You are trolling right??there is no real light in game at night unless your using brightness and gamma to "cheat" the engine, I tried walking from Kamenka to the north and gave up after running into about the 50th zombie that I didn't see coz it was pitch black. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted September 28, 2012 (edited) There should be a battery charge, but not a rechargeable one. I think if they had to be discarded after say.... 4 hours of use? They would be WAY more precious and valuable.People have to also bear in mind, most of the rifles in game would quickly become useless in an apocalypse too. Gas/Battery powered weapons/items are a lot more common in the mod than they should be.EDIT: Some, like the Enfield, would last almost forever though.
