As already explained, he was talking about the mod, not the standalone game. Sigh.

Maybe that's where your getting confused a little. The standalone will be locked down, no one will have access to that code. The mod will remain a mod with people able to manipulate the code. This really should've cleared it up by now.

You know what, Dayz is a great mod for Arma 2. BIS! IF YOU ARE READING GIVE THESE PEOPLE 20% OF YOUR PROFITS FOR MODDING THE GAME! DO IT NOW!

Does it make sense? Not really.

Financially BI will get money, you try releasing a game in this day and age, believe it or not not every good game gets to see the light of day without a good publisher, cost of materials, promotion etc.

Modders love modding, like musicians like playing and recording music. If you have a skill and helped your mates out you wouldn't want paying.

I love it when my stuff gets used in program, I don't expect to get paid for it unless I'm specifically selling the idea in the first place.

Are you being pedantic on purpose or do you just honestly not understand?

@dgeesio

Look at the floor in front of you, that is all the money everyone has paid for the DayZ, that's right NOTHING! And you can keep it all to yourself if you want

(but the modding community will be at your door with pitchforks and torches)

"I want my fair share of the NO MONEY that you made!"

"Hello Palm? This is Face. See you very soon!"

so whos benefiting from dayz standalone ?

I am.

I sense some angst Dgeesio, as if you don't appreciate the opportunity that has been handed to you. BI is investing it's resources into the team that is developing DayZ SA and paying them well hopefully. We the gaming community will receive a polished, secure and AWESOME game to play for which we will pay BI to own our slice of the pie. For those that choose to create modifications to the original mod, they are FREELY contributing their talents in the hopes others will enjoy, sharing in their passion. It's almost as if you resent their efforts for some reason and are trying to champion some misguided cause to seek compensation for the work they have given to you, asking nothing in return. Generosity must not be a part of your vocabulary.

once these modders have done all this great work then what ? will they get funds for basically maintaining making dayz better ? making the content .

he said himself maybe its lazy way of doing tihngs i think its more than lazy tbh.

As a modder who is already customizing DayZ/rewriting some mechanics/fixing Rocket's code (My Mod In Development), let me state fully and clearly that you are a colossal idiot. The portion of your post that I quoted is so wrong and stupid, that I sincerely hope that nobody reading your drivel thinks that you speak for anyone who is/will be contributing towards DayZ Mod. Please, don't "worry" about us modders. We don't need or want you to act and speak on our behalf. Any modder seeking money for working on/with DayZ mod is an idiot that you do not want working on DayZ Mod.

Just stop posting. I promise you don't have to "worry" about modders like us being screwed. Why? Because it's impossible for us to be screwed. By very definition we'e volunteering our time and should have no expectations of entitlement. We wouldn't do it if we didn't just like the game.

If I were asked to contribute to DayZ Mod, I would. But honestly I'm so tired of self entitled admins that I am in no rush to contribute my time to effect a positive result for them (I myself am a server admin who pays for a server before anyone gets in a huff. I know the "but I pay MONEY!" is the cornerstone of the self-entitled admin's excuse).

By the weekend I plan to have my server up with my custom mod, we'll see whether or not people enjoy it. Hopefully so. It's primarily going to be lots of bug fixes and an ALT-F4 proof mechanic. The rest is up-in-the-air to constantly change and nothing is set in stone.

TLDR:

-I am an alpha tester (Player)

-I have volunteered my money/time to be a server admin (Admin)

-I am volunteering my time to write script/code to modify/fix DayZ Mod (Developer)

Things I feel I am thusly entitled to (rights/money/etc): Nothing

Please stop trying to speak on my behalf. Thanks.

from what im watching a listening to live at the expo rocket is on about giving the code to modders to see what they can do . saying hes not good enough for alot of the stuff .

once these modders have done all this great work then what ? will they get funds for basically maintaining making dayz better ? making the content .

he said himself maybe its lazy way of doing tihngs i think its more than lazy tbh.

this is one of the reasons why private servers are the better way of now playing dayz because others are doing the stuff to maintain the game. i understand the group maybe busy i just hope the people who actually do the extra stuff get full credit and maybe even jobs or funds for basically making the company alot of money in the future.

maybe you should have listened harder, because that isn't really what he said.

the video will be uploaded soon so you can rewatch it and not paraphrase so it sounds like you want it to.

My worry is that with the community developing the mod the community playing the mod will become fragmented and diluted as the mod takes various different versions and tangents as more and more private hives take off running different variations of it. Some of the ARMA 2 mods are fantastic but the community are quite small, difficult to get into and in some cases the mods are excessive. I said on another post earlier that there's various mods available for ARMA 2 that are upwards of 8gb in size!

On the other hand it could provide an excellent testing ground for new features and game content for the stand alone version. I'm still undecided if it's a good thing but resigned to the fact it's going to happen whether I like it or not!

We need a mod to sticky the Compensation Sign Up topic. The way I see it I've been playing the mod for a couple months so Rocket is into me for about 50 bucks (negotiable, I'm not an asshat). I have a PayPal acct. just PM me when I can expect money.

The mod is already getting fragmented with the private hives and individual private servers and while the issues you bring up will further fragment the community I think the positives of innovation and variety outweigh the negative of fragmenting the community. The mod would die after standalone with out this move, so I view it as completely a positive step toward getting more content (plus it is free content which makes it even cooler).

No, modders never get money for the stuff they make unless people donate to them through paypal or something
