DayZ is a joke in its current form

Recommended Posts

You can thank the game design. I run North and completely gear up. Kill one or two on the way to speed up the process. By time Im north I have everything I need. I get bored of sitting North by myself with little to do so I go and kill people on the coast.

North is the place to be, i can understand if you are own your own you will travel back south and start getting trigger happy... i kinda like being in a clan, moving in the North as a large group is a hell of alot safer and the PvP is highly entertaining!

I love clan battles. Its hard to find clans though. I camp out the main areas (NWAF, NEAF, Prison etc), but the PvP doesn't happen enough. In some servers Im in I get a little frustrated because there doesn't appear to be anyone north at all and going by side chat everyone is running around Cherno/Elektro/Calamar looting. So I go south to ruin their farmville party.

the only way to avoid this is to get to people first, and shout them to oblivion via direct chat and mic, most people don't shoot people they talk to, weird enough but thats the way it is...

Haha so true, clan PvP's are becoming hard to come across.. though when they do happen and the other side don't Combat Log then the battles are epic, i've been locked down in a tactical 45 minute fire fight before just North of Novy Sobor. best battle on DayZ so far....

Other than that ill sweep the hills of Cherno and Elektro on an Anti Camper run but that is about as much action in the south i will see, if i need supplies i'll head to Berezhino or just stay in the smaller towns through the North or use Vybor and Lopitino.

Strange but true, people seem to be a hell of alot calmer when comms are finally used... the problem is my bullets and their bullets travel further than direct chat....

Yeah do that or stay in the forest with an axe forever untill you ultimatley get bored. Considering all the gear in the game is basically tools designed to kill other players logic would dictate you should kill other players. If that wasn't the case maybe instead of gun drops their shud be feather dusters, cup cakes and perhaps some S&M clothing. First u had the ghillie suit, and now we bring you, the latex gimp suit

Exactly man; the game those carebears want should be released on The Sims. And I am freaking serious here. There are some folks with rather airy views on post-apocalyptic life and they'd do better on such a Sims mod. There it would be set in some scenario long after a critical event that actually didnt end life as we know it, when there is house re-building, collecting chicken eggs, people wearing aprons doing cooking etc lol. DayZ is clearly a combat game.

There is a difference between it being harsh and unforgiving and not being given a chance to do anything in it. I never said I wanted it to be all fun and games all the time, but being killed right after I spawn when I have nothing of value to be stolen or just killing me because they can is frustrating. In a post apocalyptic time, sure people are edgy and don't trust each other, I get that. But in real life you would at least try to reason or communicate with an unarmed person rather than just shoot them in the back 20 seconds after they spawn in

And let's not forget that at the end of the day this is a game. And the idea behind them is to have a fun factor to them. Even hard games have a way of not disadvantaging new players

you sir, are a dick.

I concur with the OP and think that there isn't enough reason for the good guy to succeed in this game.

I see no reason myself to side with any survivors I come across and today, I came across a guy that was sitting in the top of med value residential,

when I told I him I only had an axe and show no threat and want to look for food and nothing else, he told me to go away anyway, and then proceeded to kill me as I moved out the door.

There is as always a lot of excuses for the way people play the game they way they do, but in the end, people play the way they do because it works within the confines of the game and gives them rewards.

If more reward was given for being the good guy, then there would be more good guys.

Perhaps the word you are looking for is "integrity" ;)

DayZ is maybe not how you would imagine it being surviving with other humans in a infected world.

If you want to survive in dayZ its better to shoot on sight if youre seen. If they dont see you its safe.

Is DayZ an alpha? Yeah it is, but that excuse isn't going to fly with me anymore. Let's be honest with ourselves for a minute, this mod was never going to make it beyond the "alpha" stage considering how long it takes to get an update that barely fixes anything and almost always breaks something new. There's really no development process occuring with the mod, it's not going anywhere. We'll be lucky to see the next patch before Christmas and all it will do is add a completely pointless feature anyway. The DayZ team should just be honest with themselves and the community and admit that the mod is stone cold dead and focus 100% of their efforts working on the standalone. Right now it feels like the mod is being kept alive on some kind of cruel life support, but the key issues are never going to get fixed so why bother? I'm assuming Rocket wants to try and keep hold of people for as long as humanly possible because he's concerned that if people stop playing the mod, they may not come back for the stand alone.

The progress of the mod has run into a brick wall due to the limitations inherent with ARAM2 and battleye. It's a damn shame because the mod was fun for a short time but it's going nowhere fast and people need to realise that what we have now is basically what we're stuck with until stand alone alpha is released. Any time spent trying to keep this mod on life support is time wasted that could have been spent working on the stand alone.

That is true for some people. But not all people are going to be like that. Some will shoot you if they see you. Others might watch you and let you go. Others will be friendly. Others will try to use you then rob you blind (or worse) later.

Just because you want to communicate with me (in game), does not mean I am going to take the risk and communicate with anything more than my gun. You existing (in game) makes life more dangerous. Removing your existence (in game) makes my life safer. Or hey I might just be bored and you are the most dangerous game, weapon or not (in game).

And let's not forget that at the end of the day this is a game. And the idea behind them is to have a fun factor to them. Even hard games have a way of not disadvantaging new players

Ummm that's not really all that true. I've played plenty of hard games that did nothing really to help a new player and had learning curves that were walls and not curves.

If you don't like something stop doing it. Plain and simple, wait for the standalone but please stop your whineing and moaning on the forums because you can't enjoy a game. Your point of view is valid but to prolong a conversation when you clearly don't like the experiences a waste of time.

When the private servers took off they came out with additional stuff to ensure their members had a better experience, sign up and play without the hassle of hackers and glitching. The community has taken over DayZ and made it into a safer place to play for the most. Yeah they sometimes get through but it is dealt with sooner than not.

Seriously to all those who give up, gave in or are just too QQ over this game, find a server with security ( look in the private server section) and enjoy again. Or leave. I would even ask you go and filter a no PVP server to play on, if you want to socialise in game.

All your tears are belong to us.

Yes today I was killed too many times in Fallujah again.

LOL what?

You tell him off for whining and not to post then proceed to write 3 paragraphs?

Everyone loves to preach that this game is about pvp, and don't get me wrong, it is. But pvp does not equal highly geared 'bandits' killing unarmed or very weakly equipped survivors. I haven't played an mmo in a while, but if you ever have you know what I mean

In an mmo players are seperated by level for pvp that instills a sense of "fair game". Sure you can go out of your way to pursue the easy lowbie targets if you so choose, but where's the fun? You mike as well be shooting your tanks at rabbits.

In dayZ our levels are our gear. Why would a bandit strapped to the teeth go after a lowbie with just a hatchet? In mmo terms there's no honor or prestige to be earned there, right? I think people have hot the pvp mindset wrong. You should be going after equally or higher equipped players in the appropriate areas, such as Stary, NWAF, berezino. There is a lot more competition there, and you'll probably get a lot more of the 'adrenaline rush' you claim to crave.

Before the teleporting/instant killing hacking began, sure what you say made some sense in terms of challenge. I certainly enjoyed that more. But since the hacking, there is just no point marching north to get hacked. So that's nobody's fault really but the hackers.Nevertheless, you have it wrong to compare this to an MMO or any game. It's not about honor, character, prestige or "fair game". It's actually a sim which tries to be as realistic as possible. Sure as hell, there is no honor, prestige or fair game in RL combat or survival. It's a dirty, gritty business. I shoot new-spawns in part because, like mentioned, the essence of the game was destroyed by hackers, so I am on the coast. I also do it because, really, how often do you see any geared player running around buildings unless they hacked that shit in? They are all combat logging, ghosting and already setup in a perfect place by the time they join a busy server. That's another problem of the mechanics of the game I guess.

But that's the thing. they're working on the standalone so I would honestly prefer them to stay at it than fix the game right now every week. It's not ideal but the problems aren't lack of features or something they can implement very easily without the community lashing back.

Im sure they hate this as much as I do of people killing on sight and not trying to even communicate anymore. After all Rocket said he wanted the mod to be about player interaction surviving the apocalypse, I think he meant a balance of bandits and proper communication, and in the beginning that's what happened. But because they didn't implement any consequence system then, it was let grow and gorw into more and more bandits and now it's at a point where if they implement it, they will lose a lot of players

Hacking isn't as big a deal as people claim, I have been victim of 3 hacking occurences and every other one was dealt with by the server.

Now about realism and real life, this isn't even close to it. Real life during this type of outbreak would have deaths, I admit that. But not where you would walk down the street and just pop every single other human you saw. Only if they were acting like zombies and you weren't sure or they fired first would you do this. But in DayZ you can clearly be seen with no gear and you can spot the new spawns straight away. Shooting them with your high powered rifle is a waste of time and bullets. it has absolutely nothing to do with survival or anything, it's just a guy who thinks he's better trying to troll low geared guys.

The thing you mentioned about not seeing other geared players is because you don't actually want to find them. If you did you wouldn't be sitting around the cities where obvious new spawns come in. If you really wanted to run into high geared guys you would head north, everyone knows it can get hectic up there in Stary against the guy with good stuff. But you don't want to go there because you know you have a higher chance of getting shot and losing your gear so you would rather pick off guys who can't fight back

Oh, look, someone who was attached to their gear was killed and wants us to care he's ragequitting.

Have you read the thread? I specifically said that I died moments after spawning in with no gear worth stealing or gear that was a lot worse than the people who killed me.

I have absolutely no qualms whatsoever if a guy shoots me when I have an M16 or A good rifle. That's fair game then. buy being shot 3 minutes after spawning in when I have nothing of value except bandages and painkillers isn't good

All of this is bullshit that I will not bother to respond to properly because:

Hacking isn't as big a deal as people claim, I have been victim of 3 hacking occurences and every other one was dealt with by the server.

This was also bullshit. Fact is I used to play north. Fact is I get instantly killed a lot so gave up on the mod as it was meant to be played. Thus, none of what you said counts for shit amigo. Edited by GoodGrief

Now I am a huge fan of this game and I adore it. I took a break of about a month to play some other games and I recently came back to DayZ. I cannot get over how many people are playing just to kill other players now. I don't mind if a guy sees me with my M16 and kills me to steal it or any other gear or whatever, but when I literally just spawn in and a guy shoots me in the back to steal nothing is a joke.

I thought I would try a server with more than 5 people in it (14 in this last one) and I was shot in 5 minutes, and have been shot only a few hundred metres from my spawn 3 times in a row now and it's just not fun. It's taking a lot away from the experience and what was once extremely fun and tense/tactical to play has become an absolute free for all of who can kill the most players.

I was even nice to a dude and there were 2 lee enfields, I took one and the ammo and the other guy just got the gun so I gave him some ammo in the confidence he wouldn't just kill me instantly and sure enough he kept his word. So we parted ways only for me to leave the shed and be gunned down by some other dude.

I am not a whiner and usually take it on the chin but when it stops me from having fun or even playing the game for any length of time it's a huge

problem.

i hear you man. Many of us greatly enjoy this game and are frustrated by it's limitations, you are not alone. Many people are playing other games until the stand alone is released. Others have changed tactics to fit the current play styles. There are some good suggestions in this topic that you can use if you want to continue playing.

Your right in the fact not being about honor or prestige. But what takes the place of that in dayZ is, "What do I have to gain by killing him?" killing fresh spawns nothing to gain besides one upping your kill count, aka e-peen. Also it's not about survival either, unless your really scared of the with a hatchet 200 meters away from you. The sole purpose for you killing them is because your bored, or just out right trying to be a dick. If your bored, either A. Quit the game and play something that isn't boring to you, or B. try a new play style. You know, it's a little more exhilarating to actually try to interact, to try and scrape by, rather than just click, he's dead.

If you are looking for a post with hugs and love hearts this is not it.

I have had enough of this game. I quit. This game is simply not fun anymore. The reasons why I am leaving this game are:

1. Hackers

2. AS50s

3. Admin Abuse

4. Have spawned in Kamenka 100 times

5. None of my friends play anymore

6. Not including the hackers, about 50% of the playerbase are complete douche bags. (this was pointed out by OP).

7. I have done everything that can be described as 'fun' in this game (yes, I have been flying the chopper and shooting people with it, I helped make massive bases with 15 other guys, I have worked with squads, I have used 95% of the guns in the game, I have been in boats, cars, trucks, motorbikes, bicycles and ATVs, I have survived for 13 days straight, I have played as a hero and as a bandit, I have discovered all the secret bases including the ones that are off the top right corner of the map, I have got into squad vs. squad firefights and come out victorious, I have set up bases in random barns on the coast and helped out whoever came by, I have played at night with a squad without nightvision and survived for days, I have sniped people at 900m away, I have found the secret bases under the lake at Tapolka Dam, I have played on private hives, I have gotten 699 zombie kills, I have done EVERYTHING)

I have had enough of this game.
