Griefer-Hunting

Recommended Posts

Me and my buddies have been playing Day-Z for a while now, and we learned pretty quickly that to get away from the Southern coast is to survive.

Our rules of engagement are as follows - shoot bandits on sight, but don't engage other players until fired upon first. Two of us have hero skins (my humanity is currently at 20,000, admittedly mainly through healing my group).

Now I want to go back down to the south of the map, the place where I first learned the ropes of this game, and actually try to live up to the hero-skin I have. I want to kill those camping sniper-griefers on the hills and tall buildings of Cherno and Elektro, the ones who are terrorising noobs and ruining their game experiences.

Is there anyone else who does this? Does anyone have any tips on finding the usual camping grounds of these snipers, preferably with rough map coordinates? What's the best way to engage them - long ranged countersniping, or sneaking up with an automatic weapon and emptying some rounds?

This is one of the many things my clan is involved in doing, there are two main types of snipers......idiots and elites.

Your average idiot sniper camps the known spots and alt f4s the moment they get shot at or you see them, so make the first shot count. These kind of people usually operate alone and dont stick around long (ive witnissed a few staying in a server for 10-20 seconds and tracking them with dayzcommander through 20-30 servers then coming back to the one im in, sometimes they fire a shot and abort the game straight away)

But dont worry, once you fire and they alt f4, you will see them again in a few minutes when they server hop to another location and snipe you from there

The elite snipers you will rarely see, the first and last time you will see them before they put a bullet in you is from 1200m away, you may be lucky enough to see a glint on thermal before you go down.

They camp unknown and awarkward to reach places you would never expect and those places usually dont have a great field of view, but they are patient and these guys are rare and usually well armed.

Morale of the story, 1 hit kill them or they will abort, only about 10% of the snipers ive taken out stick around to allow their body to be looted.

Dont bother sneaking up on them, I once spawned in on the hill above sniper hill (was looking for camping snipers myself) there were 3 guys on the hill, 2 with thermal AS50s and one with a normal AS50.

I quickly fired a couple of shots into one of them with an L85 and all 3 quit in less than a second, I decided to change position as I knew they were gonna be back. 30 seconds later im sniped, probably by them

Just saying it how I know it, most snipers follow these patterns, have not seen any stick around to get killed for a long while

Nope, we are no better or worse than any other veteran players out there and we dont pretend to be. I simply answered with the information I know.

Dankine, nice try in trying to provoke a response to start an argument, you have failed.

have a nice day and dont choke on your beans

it's the regulator lot, they think theyre the bees knees.

They might think they're the bees knees, but at least they're setting out to make the DayZ game experience less brutal for those just starting out.

which clashes with the bandit mindset, more than once you would hear people talking about "teaching a lesson to these medics" or "showing that colony who's the wasteland boss" which in reality are bored bandits feeling threatened by those who actually try to do good in this game.

Love to help but I don't see how giving out my good spots on a public forum would help me at all. Probably get me killed faster ;)

I wouldn't even think of going after these so-called 'elites,' I've seen videos of these sorts of players on youtube, guys who operate in groups with one player acting as spotter. The idiots, on the other hand, DayZ would benefit from less of these 'leet' CoD-kiddies hopping from server to server trying to up their K/D ratio.

Also, I've just seen your 'Operation Overwatch' video on youtube of you doing exactly what I described. Your voice reminds me of Gaz from CoD 4 :D

Wellseh lol am i being called a idiot or an elite? or are you talking about the guy who kept trying to kill us? :)

Yes we only kill bandits that way though, there were a lot of people running around in cherno that day that we left to their own buisiness.

We just take out the ones causing the most grief, like the guy who was sniping unarmed players and then decided to try and server hop to the exact same position each time we killed him, of course he got some of my squad the first time, then attempted to server hop 3 or 4 more times to the same spot which just resulted in him dying over and over again :)

Elektro hills, don't bother sneaking up on them, the moment they hear you they'll ALT+F4 because they know they're fucked, either log on behind them and shoot them right away or try shooting them from a blind spot, considering you can't see much when you're scoping in.

Cherno industrial area, there are perhaps 2-3 spots, both very hard to get there without getting shot or heard, best thing you could do is log on behind them, shoot them, take their shit and leave, or, blind spots yet again, although hitting them is a lot harder than hitting elektro hill snipers, considering they have a lot more cover.

IF you want to hunt sniper any other place just check the treeline and watch out for huge guns sticking out of a flat bush next to a tree.

i think im the newb sniper, but i wont alt f4 in the middle of a fight. technically esc then alt+f4 is the only way i ever turn the game off, but i only do it if im alone.

i dont know a lot of good sniping spots and tend to get sniped myself more often than not. i do get some kills though so im not a total scrub.

i did manage to get in a sniper fight with 2 snipers at once, and that was so fun. the gun i had was new to me and i wasnt used to its range, and kept missing. they were 600+ meters away. they kept ducking behind hills and trees, and i kept rolling back and forth between the trees i was hiding in. we shot at eachother for maybe 5 or 10 minutes(we all sucked) before they got me.

So if you snipe you're either a uber 1337 pwnzor sniper or a terrible nub that altf4s?

Yeah there doesnt seem to be a middle ground with snipers, not that ive seen anyway

Thanks for tying to answer the OPs question, from your experience.

All the haters trying to get at you are just pissed cause they're the snipers - bet they have never tried to help anyone. Ever.

The two or three times I've logged in to high population servers to do some counter sniping against the infamous Cherno/Elektro spawn-snipers have all ended with me dying to hackers.

I've given up caring now, I stick to private hives where I play as a hero, or low population servers where just mind my own business up north.

the only griefers in this game are hackers. everyone else, those using legitimate mechanics built into the game, are simply players like everyone else.

don't judge someone's playstyle as "bad" or negative just because it's different from yours.

i agree that those guys are terrorising noobs. i totally disagree that they're "ruining" their game experience though. why not make that their first experience of the game - if they don't like it, they don't like dayz. that was my first experience too, but i came back for more having learned my lesson and changed my tactics.

a cherno that you walk calmly through, on a high-pop server, during daylight, and know that you'll be safe, is the most boring game experience i can imagine.

ducking through the place with your heart in your mouth, running from cover to cover, and getting the hell out when you've got what you need - that's the game i want to play.

ps. i've tried some sniping and was bored out of my tits after about an hour. those guys camping cherno/electro must be total idiots, but god love 'em.

Well that settles it for me, you haven't seen it, so it must not exist.

what about the ones that stick to fireteams and provide the "cover fire" on operations and such... much more than a camper... a specialist really

I was one of those snipers camping the main coastal cities. Whenever I saw a group of people communicating with each other somewhere in the city, I wait until the best moment where I could kill one of them and scare the rest of them shitless. Then I'd take them out one at a time. These guys have automatic weapons and shotguns by the way. There's no fun in shooting someone who won't care if they die because they haven't collected anything.

If I can, I try to keep track of everyone in a city and wait until two strangers meet up. Usually one of them dies and there's my chance and reason for killing someone.

Anyways, after sniping for a long time, I always get people looking for me. And I mean fully decked out people looking for me. Whenever I have someone with me, they would be the first to die (for some reason) and I would be left to fend for myself. Fighting for my life is god damn exciting. Not fucking, disconnecting to avoid death and then losing the whole meaning of the game. 60% of the time, I die and the killers (heroes) insult me while I'm unconscious and then finish me off. Other times, I get lucky and manage to kill a few of them while the rest of them disconnect for some reason. Really, 4-6 of them. Killed 3, tossed a grenade, missed, and somehow managed to scare them off the server. But damn was that exciting!

I have a video on Youtube of me meeting random players. Killing someone outright is boring. I want them to suffer, if it's not possible, then why bother?

I'm sorry but ghosting in behind someone is cheating and is not cool

how can something be described as "cheating" in a game with no rules, other than those coded into the game and its mechanics?

ghosting is perfectly legit, so long as you're not using a hack. any sniper who sits around and doesn't check his 6 constantly for people sneaking up on him is an idiot, and deserves to get shot either by someone ghosting (which i agree, while not cheating, is a pretty dickish thing to do) or just being really sneaky.

the flipside is that ghosting is a difficult thing to time right, and logging in leaves you potentially vulnerable for a few seconds. i wouldn't try it just to get a sniper.
