bloodice 0 Posted September 23, 2012 So i own Combined Operations and the blurred character models are pissing me off. Dayz as a mod wont probably last very long now, because of the standalone announcement. Is there any Texture Pack/ Skins/Any other way to get High res models, without paying 20 bucks for PMC and BAF? I dont have the cash right now and besides i think that this money would be wasted because of the standalone alpha coming later this year.
merrfack 90 Posted September 23, 2012 Idk if it would help, but the ACE mod improves graphics and sounds ect. Makes it more realistic. I used it in Arma2:OA.
bloodice 0 Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) But does it help with Dayz? Like the blurred Survivor, Ghillie, Hero and Camo skins? ( i never had Hero or ghillie, dont know whether they are blurred for Combined Operations). And how do i run it with DayZ?When i originally played arma 2, before Dayz, i just didnt choose the BAF and PMC skins on multiplayer servers, but now im forced to do so and it sucks -.-[Edit]: I also used the ACE mod on some servers, but i think it only improves weapon`s and vehicle´s sounds and looks, but not the player models. smore98 225 Posted September 23, 2012 I believe you have to purchase the two DLC for Arma II Combined Operations, and maybe the new one too.
purepassion 383 Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) The survivor, camo suit, and hero skin are from the BAF/PMC DLC's.The Ghillie suit is standart Arma 2: CO content :)You can't use ACE (which is conversion mod with super-Realism in mind) with DayZ and join servers. There is currently no option to get HQ Textures on these models until someone does a re-skin. But I am not sure if the models support hiddenSelection at all. Edited September 23, 2012 by PurePassion
bloodice 0 Posted September 23, 2012 Ok thanks, but i thought something like a reskin would be easy, cause i saw some on multiplayerservers for admins and clanmembers. Im searching for something like in Counter strike, there are tons of skins, you can even replace all of the CTs and Ts with zombies and still play on multiplayerservers without anybody noticing, because its clientside. Just replacing original files with custom ones. It sounds easy and im wondering why nobody has done it before, or i might just not have heard about it. bloodice 0 Posted September 23, 2012 So why does it work on tons of other games, with obviously better anti cheat software?
purepassion 383 Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Well, it's actually not that easy.First of all, there is an option available to do these kinds of re-skins via e.g. HiddenSelections and you can even do client side re-skins of your own character as well. (You can take a texture from e.g. this template, call the .jpeg "face" and put it to your game profile to actually use this skin)But the thing with the lite DLC content is that it is a free gift from BIS so you can test some of the content with reduced quality. If you then re-skin these free units, it wouldn't be necessary to actually buy them, apart from the awesome playable content and new high quality maps, so they disabled this option on them. It's also not that easy to just use some modified files as a client. In general, it is FAR more complex than just saying "but it's possible in game XY" ;) Edited September 23, 2012 by PurePassion
bloodice 0 Posted September 23, 2012 Ok thanks, im thinking about buying PMC, not for Dayz, but for multiplayer and singleplayer in arma 2 anyways :D
purepassion 383 Posted September 23, 2012 Absolutely go for it! The content is really nice! BAF vehicles and units are superb and the same goes for the "Proving Grounds" Map from PMC. They also add some interesting single and multiplayer scenarios as well. It's definitely worth it ;)
privatewolf 59 Posted September 23, 2012 There is no other way to get the DLC other than buying it of course, it's worth it if you consider actually playing ArmA II and not just DayZ, I do suggest that you try out some servers on the vanilla for once. Takistan Life would be a good example
