Make the hachet one of the most rare tools

Recommended Posts

Suggested Change: Make hachet's very rare (perhaps 10x as rare as they currently are).

Alternative Change: Make hachet's wear down and become ineffective/break.

Expected Outcome: By making the ability to chop your own wood rare, cooperative play will be encouraged because the only other way to aquire wood will be to loot cities (residential, farm, grocery stores). This means that most players will be able to kill animals for meat on their own but they will be much more likely to share campfires with strangers or friends. On the Takistan map, there are no choppable trees and so routinely I have shared fires with strangers because one of us had plenty of meat and the other found a wood pile in a house.

Reasoning: Hachets would be widely sought after in an apocalypse, and so there would not presumably be very many left when you go looking for one. Also, axe heads dull and break, meaning that even when you found one it would not be all that long before it wore dull or broke and was no longer able to cut wood effectively.

I sometimes feel every industrial building in Chernarus is a hatchet factory.

It seems like these days, most people would just light you up with their .50 cal sniper rifle, then jog the half mile to take your hatchet so they can build a fire.

How many uses do you suggest until it breaks? I really don't think it would matter because you usually don't live that long anyway and making it just a few uses would just be ridiculous.

This.

Also, I don't think they should be very rare. About the same drop rate as the combat knife would be nice.

yet another dumb idea to encourage team play...

its a rural area so hatchet should be expected almost near every house.

dont see anything wrong with degradation, but in terms of chopping wood it doesnt really matter if your axe got blunt. it will take a bit more time.
