colekern 1364 Posted September 22, 2012 My CPU: Intel core i5-2500k cpuMy GPU: Amd HD 6900 series (not sure exactly which one.)I get probably 24-30 frames a second on high with 5000 visibility. So, to max my settings at about 40 frames, wich one should I upgrade?
Gavalin 90 Posted September 22, 2012 Umm I'm on an I5 with a Raedion like 4980 or 70....and I can roam around with my shit turned up at 40 FPS. I'm used to playing games with much less then 40 FPS...If your goal is to get more then I would say GPU. Personally.
Mayuyu 411 Posted September 22, 2012 Wouldn't hurt to upgrade both!Do you get the same amount in cities?

Mayuyu 411 Posted September 22, 2012 I know this game uses quite a lot of CPU, and from what I hear you're holding up OK in the frames, so I would really upgrade both to increase performance. If money isn't too much of an issue it'd be for the best!
kreinzer@gmail.com 7 Posted September 22, 2012 I posted a similar question today, although my game wasn't running as bad as yours does. This is the thread in question. You might try what SheriffHD advised me to do, as my game was a little choppy:(from that same thread)there is a simple fix that can improve FPS.Go to My documents\ArmA 2\ and open the file Arma2.cfg in notepad.Find the line of text that reads.GPU_MaxFramesAhead="x";GPU_DetectedFramesAhead="x"; [x= DEFAULT VALUE]Set both values to 1 and save, When you load the game up again, the fps should run better.Hope this helps.Doing this eliminated the choppiness entirely for me, the game runs 'smooth' as hell now. I wrote 'smooth' cause the FPS could be better, but from what I've read so far the game's engine is clunky which is most likely the reason for FPS problems many people have. puppetworx 474 Posted September 22, 2012 The GPU is your biggest bottleneck. You'll need to go 79XX series (or equivalent - 670 or 680 GTX) to see a significant increase in performance (a 6970 is roughly equivalent to a 7850). If it's a 6990 you'll gain very little from an upgrade. I'd probably go 7950 as the 7970 is 30-40% more expensive for about 10% greater performance.Sources:http://techreport.com/review/23246/inside-the-second-gaming-performance-with-today-cpus/1http://techreport.com/review/23150/amd-radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition/
