Air drops.

Recommended Posts

Hey there

Just a small idea for consideration, I've noticed alot of commotion about helicopter crash sites and I just thought maybe instead of having JUST helicopter crash sites you can have caches of ammunition, medical supplies, armoured cars etc that have been air dropped into the Chernarus map.

Note that this thought actually started out insanely action packed idea which involved the player having to have a radio and at some point during the day ( doesn't have to be during every "session" ) a plane can pass over the map and you would get a grid reference of where the cache has dropped or you could get to an AA gun that has been put on the map and use it to shoot down the plane for its resources. Crazy I know which is why its not part of the "main" idea I had.

Thanks for reading feel free to tell me I'm an idiot :)

Eh maybe not. Radios are very hard to find, and we already have crashes. It makes no sense that choppers would fly over and drop supplies ina zombie infested area.

And an AA gun? Jesus, people would go into Cherno and fuck shit up!

Maybe food, water and medical supplies. Any good-will organization would not drop in armored cars. Possibly ammo, but doubtful.

Not thinking along the lines of goodwill more along the lines of "early infection everybody's confused as to what the fuck is going on and dropping military supplies for the now-nonexistant military presence"

And it gives Radios a use doesn't it? and the AA idea is more of an after thought than an actual suggestion.

Okay, MAYBE we could add in small drops of ammo. But not actual primary firearms. I mean, it would be the worst bullshit for a fresh spawn in Cherno to get a tricked out M4 and ghillie suit because of some silly drop.

Our server does an air drop idea on certain areas on the map. They give a general area, and everyone/all the groups fight to get it. Never experienced it yet though...

Why? why would it be "The worst bullshit" I can think of plenty of times where I've ran into Cherno and Electro and found a dead guy with everything ( NVGs/Rangefinders/AS50 etc ) and a completely random drop means EVERYWHERE including forests and islands so its not likely that a new spawn is gonna find them without a Radio or putting in a ton of effort of looking for the boxes.

Besides these boxes are a fucking pain to find in ArmA as they're generally green and can camo really well in forests or greenery.

Plus it isn't a big white blip on a horizon when you look at it, unlike a heli crash.

I get where you're coming from. It's unlikely that civilization would have completely crashed after Z Day, and there would be many agencies still capable of remote area re-supply via "dropmasters", but they'd really only service their own agents. It's unlikely that some random survivor who washed up in Chernorus and found a radio would be able to get in contact with one of these agencies, let alone be deemed important enough to send out a supply drop.

Best you could hope for is directions to the nearest outpost...

I'm up for the random drops of medical supplies / canteen in small boxes out in the wilderness. Not a bad idea SrgTRhodes.

Perhaps constructing a radio antenna/transmitter would prove to these agencies that there's an organized human presence in need of assistance :). Naturally constructing this wouldn't be easy, so should anyone manage to do this hardly makes him/her/them unimportant survivors that washed up on the shore.

I was thinking more along the lines of you have a radio and when this aircraft passes into the area you get a broadcast over it kinda hard to understand and it tells you a few grid co-ords of where to look. Bear in mind you aren't there to respond to the broadcast and the broadcast wasn't meant for you hence you finding radios off of dead military zombies.

Anyway its just a thought thanks for your positive feedback Mayuyu.

With the destruction on the map and in towns, I think the virus was well established. You don't have Militarycheckpoints, Blockaded villages and med tents set up unless they are for something. So in hindsight, any support of any kind will be pretty much suffering the same fate as the player.

If there was a safe place where supply drops could be started from then surely the end game would be to make it there?

Lots of private servers now have max Chopper spawns and add to that the many exsisting spawning sites (non stop spawning) you will never run out of stuff. So theres never a need for Drops.

Radios are a good idea, but they can be rendered useless in some situations as players now use teamspeak and the likes to comminucate which is out of the games parameters and this offers strategy that would otherwise be impossible. eg you and your team are wandering around and one of them gets slotted. in a real situation that's it, over. but with ts players it "he was over there, with a m16 on auto, he had blah blah....." Its a big disadvantage and would upset the point of a radio (In some situations)

Good ideas though.

Why should the military drop and supplies at all? The only thing that would make sense is that they drop something to prevent the infection from spreading...bombs. I'd rather see the military killing every living thing in the area especially if it's in the eastern bloc area to stop the apocalypse.
