The clicking noise that is often followed by gunfire

Recommended Posts

WHAT IS THIS?

When people are shooting, I can sometimes hear little "clicks" going off. It is not the sound of bullets hitting nearby, its different. It never happens when I'm shooting. What is it and why?

They are bullets going past you. The whip crack noise is the bullet going past you, have a friend shoot near you once. My buddy sat me down when we started to show me the difference. He shot off to the left then as he pointed at me. About 90 degree arch in your direction bullets will make the snap noise. Hearing those snaps means the bullets are generally intended for you.

Friend of mine made me shit my pants when he opened up on full auto while behind me.

Did he offer toilet paper after that?

That sound is really similar to the real sound of bullets going over your head too. At least from the ones that have gone over my head, thats the way they sounded.

You don't really have to deploy to have rounds fired over you.

I know in the USMC even as recruits we had rounds fired over us.

When we "pull pits" on the rifle range (which I'll be at on Monday - Friday), they're shooting at targets above you by a few feet (you are behind a wall of dirt/concrete).

yeah fair enough. though only experience we got close to the real deal was War Corp... a week of live fire exercises before we ended our 6 month basic training. we have nothing like you're pull pits though, but war corp gives you that experience and knowledge to keep you alive in the field

Lol pits can be interesting, boring and dangerous.

Corpsman got killed a few years ago at Camp Lejuene. Stepped past the red line and a round ricocheted and popped him right in the grape. Sucks.

That will be why we don't use them... and yeah ironic that it was a medic that got hit... i would love to try one and see what it's like.

No the sombitch was new and didn't know what the fuck to do. In NWAF zombies coming in the door to the north barracks, he opens up with an AKM. Two in my friends shoulder then fires straight at me. I take one to the arm other squad mate took three rounds total. I had my head set turned all the up. (Mind you I'm damn near legally deaf anyway but shit, gotta turn it up for foot steps)

Full auto AKM at 1 meter, taking damage while trying to bandage a squad mate in the NWAF build...Swear my heart stopped I dropped to the ground and brought my support weapon to bear. All I hear in skype was

"Zombie came in." ... Stab-a-bitch thoughts went through my head right after I changed my pants.

Haha It's different. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't constantly screaming over the speakers "FASTER TARGET 21!" etc. lol

Lol....for some reason I'm reminded of when my friends and I first started playing. We had just grouped up and about 15 minutes later we run into a very tiny town (I have yet to come across it again), one of my friends lagged, and managed to accidentally fire ONE round.....right into the back of my other friend's head. LOL

Yea we were all three in skype. I had told them we were raiding, looking for cheap weapons so I could take them target practicing. The one guy thought I ment right there in the NWAF. Me and the other guy went straight to OH shit battle line type deal where i went prone and he knelt behind me, frantically screening the door, he was looking out windows...then the horde came...little tip...if you have a MK 48 mod 0, AkM both firing to keep zombie aggro -thinned- ... it doesn't thin if you are inside...I was like "Dude stop firing" then we had to set up a firing rotation as their was that many zombies. I was waiting for the back wall to get satchel charged and kill us all.

It's a tiny local sonic boom from a bullet, basically it means someone just missed you.
