Sula 1205 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) I don't know how long I've been playing this game. I couldn't play for about 4-6 weeks when I first got it but one day it just started to work. So while it wouldn't work I spent many hundreds of hours watching dayz on youtube and aching to play the game. Also, I spent some time in Arma2, using the armory to go for a drive around chernarus. But I could never pass the first tutorial. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't zoom in and stay zoomed in to shoot targets. So today I took Leadon's advice to practice in arma2. And what I finally learned, when I stopped to think and examine the controls, is - hitting 0 on the number pad toggles my scope so it zooms in until I hit it again (optics), and hitting the + sign on my number pad zooms me in even further and holds it until I hit + again.Suddenly I can kill zombies with ease if they're far away and even when they're up close, it's much easier too. Do give it a try if you haven't yet. :beans: Edited September 21, 2012 by Sula
richard_b 15 Posted September 22, 2012 Good for you, a tip is to bind the right mouse key to zoom in and hold it to steady aim.I was like you once mate, now I can do anything, even land a C-130 on a short runway. You'll improve fast.
dallas 5195 Posted September 22, 2012 By defaultRight click switches to iron sights.Right hold zooms in on sights.Right hold also holds breath/steadies aim. This means zooming in using right mouse for more than 2 seconds will damage your accuracy. When you use the plus key to zoom or 2xplus key to toggle zoom, hold breath isn't activated.Go into options/controls and reassign hold breath to a new key and only use it when sniping. grylsyjaeger 171 Posted September 22, 2012 I've played ArmA on and off since well, the OFP days really and if anything, playing DayZ made me better at Arma.I've been playing the Czech Armed Forces DLC and I am now a lot more patient at waiting and searching for movement and quickly acquiring targets as well as ranging targets simply with my scope. Sula 1205 Posted September 22, 2012 Before learning about 0 and + I'd been using the right mouse button but it's unreliable. I have to hit it repeatedly and then 4 minutes later, it zooms in unexpectedly. Tried swapping out keyboards and mouse but it's not them. Also, seems to happen on some servers but not others. Thanks for your help and words of encouragement, everyone. I appreciate it.
