Large suggestion list to improve DayZ

Recommended Posts

I tried to organize it as well as i could.

I'm not native English speaker, sorry for any mistakes.

Edits will be done if needed.

So, let's begin! Enjoy, and don't forget to post feedback!

LOOT.

  1. Loot in houses should not spawn only at the floor. It can also be found on the tables, beds, in cases, cabinets, etc. Floor spawns need to be left as well. This is just about the variety.
  2. You should be able to find additional pouches (Czech Vest Pouch, etc.) that can be equipped into special slots. Some can be attached to your legs, some act as a vest.
  3. No military loot spawning in the garages. Grenades and STANAG SD found at factories is pure shit.
  4. Deer stands should spawn hunting rifles/packs/other civilian loot.

(TO DO: RIFLES LIST)

WEAPONS.

  1. Many people suggest to lower the accuracy, make the recoil stronger, etc. I can't totally agree. This is necessary, of course, but being unable to hit something w/ m4 from 100 meters sucks. Also i'm for more swaying sight after running. This is a suggestion that makes sense.
  2. Weather affecting sniper bullets. IMO, this is not a feature to be implemented. I want this game to be hard and challenging, but not frustrating. If this is implemented, SVD, M107 and AS50 can be cut out. Immedilately. Because hitting a target on 600-700 meters will become nearly impossible. This kills the art of sniping, no player will waste months to learn shooting a sniper rifle.
  3. Durability/jamming. As of me, only the second is appliable. The first will ruin the game. It's pretty unrealistic for a weapon to break. I understand if a scope is broken after a bullet hit the weapon/it fell a long height. Weapons can jam if poorly maintained, but breaking them down? Never.
  4. About cleaning: you should be able to do it in two ways: first is to find some oil and a handkerchief/a piece of silk etc. The second is to find a weapon cleaning kit (spawns at military locations, with the same rate the toolbox does at industrial). Of course, the first method is acceptable for low and medium grade weapons (enfield, m4, ak). But you can't to use it for maintaining a FAL or anything of this level.
  5. More melee weapons and crafting. Here it's nothing to explain. This was suggested a lot of times. Shovels, bats, knifes, etc. Maybe it's possible to break legs only with heavy weapon like an axe, while blunts can have a knockdown effect. Also they can be modified if you have a toolbox, maybe a special table is needed for some modifications (later about this). Something can be made from zero. Making alarm tripwires with smoke/flares, molotovs, hand-made machete, nail bats etc.
  6. Add SMAW into the game. Spawns at the crashed helicopters. Would be ideal against flying ones.
  7. Nerf the Winchester. A hunting rifle with 15 rounds in a clip? Maximum 6 rounds.
  8. Damage rebalancing. I will give several points here:

- M1911 and revolver should have 4,5k damage as they used to. M1911 damage can be lowered to 3,5, because it already has privileges (7 rounds in the clip, better sights, better firing rate).

- M4 and AK should have equivalent dmg(3k) M16 should have a little more(3,8) and AKM should have its 4,5k damage back.

- Lee Enfield should have a power of 7000, Winchester - 4500.

-Also 9mm sidearms must have their 1,5k damage back. For now headshots are the only way to get someone killed. M9 IRL can bring down a man after 2-3 bullets. So don't tell me that the weapons will be OP.

ZOMBIES.

  1. There should be more zombies. In villages - 2x more (to compare with today), in cities - 3x more.
  2. Respawn mechanics should be changed. We have x zeds in a village. It's t time now. Player y comes and kills 10 zeds. In two hours player z comes and kills another 5 zeds. The ones killes by y will respawn in t+4. But the zombies killed by z will only respawn in t+6. So, basically, killed zombies respawn in 4 hours. This is made for people to have time to fortify inside (i'll say about it later).
  3. Zombies must be more interactive. For example, they can grab you and bite if you don't do some proper actions or your friend shoots him off. Or you can throw him out of the window, knock down etc.
  4. Corpses should attract zombies in 100m radius. They all walk to the corpse, sit down and begin eating it. In such state their vision is lowered to 0, hearing is lowered by 1. So you will think before shooting someone, because it may happen that you are either trapped by surronding zeds or you can't get the loot. Also an option to drag dead bodies should be implemented; you can use a dead survivor to distract the infected.
  5. Zombies should be able to break the car glasses and harm the people inside. There will be some use for the glasses at last. Also, a zombie can grab you and drag out of the car if it's static.
  6. Zombie hordes roaming in the wilderness.
  7. Hearing mechanics changes. Zombies hearing you, turning to the source os the sound and being unable to see its, walks to investigate. Only very loud sounds can set zombies off immedilately. Also, if they turn to the source and see a player, they rush him.

SURVIVAL(GENERAL).

  1. Running has to be limited. You have to stop and have a rest sometimes, or you will fall down exhausted. This will take 2x more time to recover.
  2. Tents can't be the only storage of items. You can break floor in the house and hide a backpack with equipment under the floor. Also putting stuff into bushes, under trees etc.
  3. The ability to bury stuff with shovel is good, but you'll never find your stash. I think that there should be a way to make waypoints. Just like putting a piece of tissue on a stick, painting something on a tree (using knife). Also maybe you can find a lock with a key in residential loot spawns? So you can make a really safe hiding spot: a pit, covered with wood, with some dirt on it for stealth, and an entrance. A small hole, locked with a hatch and a lock. Maybe there can be a way to break in, like shooting the lock off with .50 BMG etc. Also such a stash will require lots of resourses to build (Etool, toolbox, hatchet, wood, etc.)
  4. Animals must be scary of human presense, and any domestic animals should roam only around villages. Boar attack will be lovely too.
  5. Maybe sleeping should be added. You have to sleep once a day. Sleeping lasts for 2 hours. You can sleep any time, but from the tactical point of view it's better to sleep at night. If sleeping on the ground, you may catch a cold. For sleeping safely you need to make fire or sleep in a tent. You can get your char awake at any time, but when he is sleeping he is in the server (may be found/killed). If not sleeping for 3 days, vision becomes blurry and speed is decreased. After being awake for 5 days without sleeping you cant run and eventually die.
  6. NVG, Rangefinder, Flashlight, GPS, special scopes (NV, thermal) need batteries. Have low/medium chance to spawn in civilian loot and medium/high in military loot.
  7. Radios should be dropped from military zombies. Then all the radio users can hear you through side channel.
  8. Add some kind of background story into the game. Military facts, survivor diaries will really make the game more interesting. (Needs further work). Also I would love to see paper and pen implemented to write and drop notes.
  9. Ghillie should permanently lower your visibility in grass by 2, camo by 1.
  10. Matches should be limited, like flares. 25 matches per box. When making fire it's 5% chance in rain that a match will be wasted.
  11. Fires may be extinguished in rain randomly.

VEHICLES.

  1. Much more old bikes. A post soviet country should have lots of them, used by children/women/workers. I'm Russian and I know what I'm talking about. Also, for the bikes not to become OP, they should exhaust you as running does.
  2. More vehicles, and also more details. I can't understand how a virus could affect cars. It passed 5, maybe 10 years. But any car IRL can stand this. Maybe cars will need some more care, like replacing the starter, wiring etc. There should be 2,5x more cars, and they should be 2x harder.
  3. Car modifying. This topic is beaten to death. Everyone knows the suggestions about enforcing the cars w/ additional armor and mounted machine guns. I'm for it completely. Especially if zombie car attacks are realised, that will be great. Also introducing drive-by shooting is also welcome. Maybe not with primary weapons but with pistols.
  4. Implementing some heavy vehicles, like firetrucks or bulldozers. They could break down stuff like concrete fences etc. Bulldozers can use their dippers to crush the zombies or throw debris off the road.
  5. Much more different civilian vehicles, like trailers, sedans, jeeps etc. They don't need to have all different abilities, for example a Land Rover and an UAZ will be simular in speed, passability and capability, differing slightly.
  6. Add AN-2. Thanks some random guy, you had an awesome idea. This perfectly fits the Chernarussian atmosphere. It will be big and fast, but the minus is that it needs space to land.

-Capacity: 8

-Inventory: 100/20/5

-Fuel: Same as chopper

SKILLS AND SPAWNING SYSTEM.

  1. First about the skills. This is simple. No levels. No xp. No other RPG shit, so think before shouting "THIS IS NOT SKYRIM YOU ARE IDIOT!!1!!11! The point is that you simply get better at some things over time. For example, you can run more without exhaustion. Or applying bandages quicker.
  2. Spawns. This is directly connected to the skills. For example, you can spawn as a soldier, with G17, no ammo, at Balota. Or you may spawn as a hunter, with a hunting set, a Winchester w/one clip, completely lost in the forest, without map. So the spawns are balanced. How is it related to skills? Simple. A hunter can get more meat and his running skill is advanced a little. A medic can perform medical operations really fast, a soldier is good at shooting etc. This is not a class system in its full meaning, where two classes have to cooperate. You can play any way you want. But this will make you think a little when you see another player in the scope. Maybe, he has a skill that you need? Also, the spawns ARE NOT chosen.

CAMPS, SETTLEMENTS, FORTIFICATIONS.

  1. Common interface. I think when you enter "building mode", you get another view of the landscape - just like in a strategy game. You choose what unit to build, underground or not, where, etc. Building only begins if you have necessary resourses. But it won't last for hours. Maybe 5 minutes.
  2. Safe settlements. Players should be able to build their own settlements. Taking over villages is not a good idea. Loot places must remain as they are. If anyone played ArmA 2 OA and remembers the mission where we go to Elektro, to U.S. recon captain to get info about Lopotev, imagine the military camp where the captain is. This is what I want to build. Large tents, camo nets for vehicles and loot stashes, surrounded by sandbags fences, wiring and hedgehogs. Behind the fences there are deer stands (self-made), where covering shooters are. The entrance is a gate, like the one at Green Mountain, but locked. One of the guards has the keys. So such a settlement is really safe. But it can't be done in an hour. It requires lots of resourses. So a small settlement - just some tents is built, then a wire fence is made, etc. Images: http://s16.postimage...20_42_12_75.png
  3. Underground settlements are good too, less resourses is required but more time. I don't think there need to be any special suggestions about it.
  4. Large military tents consisting of two parts: fabric (6 slots) and ropes (3 slots). Needed for building in settlements. Found at military and industrial loot.
  5. Camo nets. All the same. Foundation takes 7 slots and camo takes 3. Found at the same spots as tents.
  6. Powering and fortifying the filling stations to get fuel from pumps.

INTERACTIVE EVENTS.

  1. The heli crash mechanic should be completely re-written. First, they appear as usual choppers: coming from the sea, they can fly around the island with random trajectory and them fall after a certain amount of time. Loot spawns in bodies scattered around the chopper and in the chopper itself. There should spawn around 2-3 bodies and 2 zombie pilots. They need to be much harder than now and have the same health as a player. Also, the crashed helicopters must leave trails on the ground, or if it has fallen into the forest - break down trees. It can even crash in a city - and the site will have broken houses and ground around. Also maybe there should be some notes found in the helis - plans or smth else, as a part of the backstory.
  2. Broken cars in the cities should not be completely rusted. I want to see them damaged heavily, but with paint and something inside. Also cars may have loot inside. Police and ambulances will be really cool to find weapons/medical supplies inside/around. But they have to be broken down and unrepairable.

Thanks for your time!

Rename it to " My suggestions that I think would improve DayZ"

Because the current title sounds like you have your head up your own ass.

I spent so much time on this... But you are right. Thanks.

As for military gear spawning in garages, factories, and hunting stands, the military force that came in to try and stop the infection used them as bases for fighting zombies and bandits and observing survivors.

As for custom alarm tripwires with smoke grenades... Why not a frag grenade?

I can understand about the deer stands as observing points, but... Why they have chosen industrial areas for bases? Why not living houses? Or schools and hospitals? Also good places to observe.

This is one of the best suggestion posts i have seen in a long time. On the subject of loot, it has ti make sense, like you can loot a cars: Trunk, Engine, Or Glove Compartment. like the glove compartment should have a map, the trunk could hold a tire iron(new weapon)

You've obviously never worked on a farm.

Many of these are good ideas, but many of them have been suggested before.

In the future, don't post "big list of ideas" topics, because it is very difficult to search for and results in people using the same ideas over and over again, because they don't want to look through each "list of ideas" topic.

Focus on a few good, original ideas and go much more in depth to them, about how they are needed and how they will positively affect gameplay. People respect these kinds of topics much more than suggestion lists.

Such topics are focused on collecting the best sugegstions from all the forum and giving them in one post. So people can discuss everything, and it's easier for devs to see it. I didn't call these sugeestions mine, but some of them are. I respect their authors.

I posted original ideas about 4-5 times, people just can't see the depth. For example, it was my first idea about such a system of skills and spawns. People just shouted about grinding and RPG massacre and non-balance. I modified the suggestion, so it was impossible to grind, farm, etc. A few ppl even admitted it. But the most kept attacking. And then everybody left, and the topic fell down. So I decided to create such a wishlist.

I'm not talking about your topic specifically (or this topic), but some suggestions are not good for this game. In that case the thread dies.

As i see, only hot IRL topics (like religion) don't die here in 2-3 days.
