crockett (DayZ) 41 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Please, pretty please fix the player avatar animations/first person controller so they are more fluid and life like. One of the things that drives me crazy is your character has to stop to switch weapons or throw something. I realize DayZ is just using the basic ARMA II animations & first/3rd person controller but please make things a bit smoother like you would find in a typical FPS game. This is one of the things that has always driven me crazy with BI's games as far back as operation flashpoint. starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted September 21, 2012 I think that's rather realistic in a way. I mean all this running around shooting, throwing grenades and instantly switching weapons in other 'typical FPS' games is pretty stupid and unrealistic. Arma 2 and with it DayZ is a lot slower in pace than those 'typical FPS' and that's what I like about it. There really is no 'run&gunning' in this game and it should stay that way.
apache25 133 Posted September 21, 2012 good point you have its annoying to have to stop when being chased to unholster your weapon you should also be able to shoot pistols while running heres an example.*man running from zombies**man has to wait 3 seconds as unholstering animation plays out**man has already lost 500k blood in unholstering animation**man dies of blood loss because he got swiped while unholstering his pistol which takes 8 bullets to kill zeds*
apache25 133 Posted September 21, 2012 james ashwood i think what he means is being able to unholster weapons while moving which is easy to do
Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted September 21, 2012 I think rocket stated that they will make new (more "civil" and fluid) animations for SA, but not for alpha release I guess. I don't think you'll be able to switch weapons while moving because it would require to rework the way the engine handles animations. Also I personnaly like the fact you have to stop to switch weapons or throw grenades, so you have to carefully plan every move and time every action perfectly which makes the game far more strategic in a sense. I don't understand people saying the controls are "clunky", to my tastes it's really perfect for a survival game (remember how clunky were resident evil controls :) ). mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted September 21, 2012 Maybe not at full sprinting speed, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to get something, a grenade for example, out of your jacket pocket without standing perfectly still, while a gang of nutters try to punch you to death and eat your face, or a bandit stands and fills you with bullets.Only a proper ninja can get good use out of 'Nades, I just hoard them in a tent now.I think you should also be able to just drop your primary weapon to "quickdraw" a sidearm, would be cool for a panic situation, and REALLY handy that one time you left all your spare mags in your bag!

I'm pretty certain, that I could shoulder harness or drop my rifle and pull out my hand gun.. Might not be as accurate as standing still but it could still be done..You can reload while running but can't swap to a pistol.. seems fairly strange.. habinero 8 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Not just because I get frustrated at the stop to do anything mechanic, but I really think you should be able to switch weapons and throw things while moving, maybe not full on sprint or full run but really if i had a heard of zombies after me, i would just pull the pin on a grenade and drop it. and keep going. i know the engine demos for Arma3 show low velocity animations for grenade throwing and such, hopefully this is one of the things they add to engine when they rework it.Also for switching weapons, just make it take longer while moving, I'm pretty sure I could put a pistol in a holster while running it would just take a bit to get the barrel right in the slot, and then grab the strap holding the rifle or shotgun on my shoulder and work it to my hands. Yeah I'm not gonna be able to do that in 3 seconds flat, maybe 10 or 15? Personally I've never done that specific action but I'm sure some things come close.Ever been at a jog while on the phone, putting that in your pocket then swinging your backpack around to grab whatever out of it?? almost the same thing no? my 2 cents anyway.
