Interesting suggestion, terrible thread.

What would be the indicator, something when you access the tent or something like a stake with a note that you can leave behind?

Also, I don't think this should require you having a specific item to do it.

No. Seriously, you should require the stationary to do it. Otherwise, people will be spamming love letters, endlessly.

it should be an inventory item so the player could decided to look at it or ignore it. and then you would have the option to take the note / toss the note / or leave it there. imaging coming back to camp to see your tent has a note in it saying. "I see you! Prepare to die"

and I think you should most def have a pad and pen (a tool item) to be able to leave notes. You could even leave them on dead bodies.
