WhiteMoon (DayZ) 0 Posted May 6, 2012 I noticed you need to be a bit power user to install the mod : you have to create 2 folders, and not place the zips into it but extract each one of them (don't forget one like a mate earlier).Perhaps you'll tell me it acts as a filter that fits well to an alpha and beta mod, but at the end you will need to simplify the installation. To help my clan's mates to join the mod, I simply zipped my @dayz folder and uploaded it to our ftp.You can also create an auto-extractible archive where you can preset default install folder with a browse button to indicate ArmA 2 folder if not default. Also on the download page, you should add a notification blinking in bold to explain that connecting a server when a large ammount of players is trying to connect (during week-ends) will need several minutes to fulfil, and it's important to be patient and avoid connect/disconnect many times.Yesterday, we played all afternoon long on EU10 without lag. In the evening (looks like after people had watched their TV program :D ), several slots became available and a large amount of players started to connect/disconnect constantly, leading the server to lag as hell with big teleportations, during more than half an hour ! It was really awfull to teamplay. Finally the server got full again, and lag got away.Congrats for your great mod ! Success is already there and it already works well even if many features and improvements will be expected and above all welcome in the future. Great work, keep it this way !
Astral (DayZ) 2 Posted May 6, 2012 It's not as difficult or intricate as certain mods may be. A folder within a folder, within which you unzip files, is paltry compared to the amount of work I've done in order to get mods in Fallout or similar titles to work.As you mentioned, it is an alpha, so user friendliness isn't exactly the theme here. It's not like it's difficult to do, though, and accounting for either players who have it through Steam or directly via ArmA would be a chore distracting from actual gameplay in its current state. griffinz 2816 Posted May 6, 2012 I could probably code up a small installer program that checks and installs any new versions available, but someone else could probably could up one that works.
WhiteMoon (DayZ) 0 Posted May 6, 2012 The problem is not it's hard, but it was so simple to simplify it  One guy zip it all and it goes fast for dozens of thousands players :sleepy:But again, nothing urgent !
shiromikan 217 Posted May 6, 2012 This is why I suggested the use of SVN Repos. :D
litoralis.nMd 1 Posted May 6, 2012 I agree completely. And I still hope NOTHING is done to make installation easier during Alpha/early Beta.
Freyar 8 Posted May 6, 2012 Perhaps later, but as it is I just save the zip files into ../steam/steamapps/common/arma II operation arrowhead/@dayz/addons/ and just "extract here" anyway. No more difficult than say.. Team Fortress, or even any source mods out there.
