Tent Help

Recommended Posts

First off, I'm not complaining, just looking for some insight on this issue.

The other day, my friend and I had some really good luck but were only extremely let down at the end of it all. On our way up the west coast towards the NWA, we ended up running into two heli crash sites within 100 yards of each other, which we've never seen before, but we're not complaining. We raided it, set up a tent a decent distance away, raided it again, raided the NWA and at the end of it we had a tent w/ 10 weapons and 50 items, including our first AS50, a M249, a silenced MP5, another DMR, tons of Stanang/DMR clips and our first pair of NVGs. We decided to head to Berezino, setup another tent and load it up w/ med supplies. We set the tent up, unload the as50, m249, mp5 and an m4a1 cco sd - to make room in our inventories for lots of med supplies. We hit Berezino, get back to our tent, load it up and then head back to Berezino to grab more supplies. During this raid, it starts storming really bad (IRL) and since my power goes out a lot, I decided to quit until it stops storming so bad. We come back two hours later and continue on our mission, but when we get to our tent, we find it completely empty. We also find that our 2nd tent on the west side is completely empty as well. Normally I would chalk this up to someone finding our tents and looting them, but here's why I don't think this is what happened:

  1. Between the 2 tents were ~13 guns and 80 items, which would take any normal player quite a while to loot and place in another tent.
  2. We were only gone for about 2 hours.
  3. There was no one on the server during this whole time and when we got back. I can't account for the 2 hours we were not in the server.
  4. I've been playing on this particular server for a month and have never seen more than 5 people on at once.

I just can't fathom we got looted that hard, with so many items and such distance between the tents. No one followed us, we placed the tents in very discreet locations and also used trees to help hinder other players accessing our tents. Of course I saved the tents every time I loaded more items into them.

Anyone come across an issue like this before? Anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks

In my experience, due to the buggy nature of tents in general, it's a good idea to place a tent and then wait for a server restart before you place anything valuable into it. this is not always a necessary step, but in cases like yours it may have made a difference. I've had plenty of tents save items on the first use, but I've had many tents fail to save items the first time I used it (and many cases where the tent itself disappeared on the first reboot).

Tents are broken for the most part. You should expect things like this to happen, and as you have found, they often do.

build tent...FILL it with loot and THEN press "save old tent" (3 or 4 times)

After the first "save tent" all the loot inside the tent at this time will stay. Loot that you store after the "first time save" will always disapear.

I think u saved the empty tent after building it up, so this tent will stay there empty until no one used it 7 days.

Forget to "pack" the tent and build it up on an other place again, it will be empty everytime.

Search a new tent, cry for your loot, and press "save" when your tent is filled, NOT before.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I will try them today when I'm back on!

Also, do the same issues arise with vehicle item storage? We tend to blow up vehicles fairly fast lol

Ok learned two new things here. Thanks Wasnu.

1. I didn't know that only the first save works. So I can keep loading up a tent and saving and none of the newly added stuff will save?

If someone can confirm this "first save" rule, please let me know. Otherwise I'll assume that's how it works.

2. Pressing Save 3 or 4 times. Thanks again. didn't know you needed to do this just to make sure a tent saves.

If I repack a tent, then place it somewhere else...does it count as a first save again?

I disagree with the statement that only the first save works (and in fact, the first save up until the next server reboot is always the most likely time to lose your items). First saves seemed to be permanent in the 1.7.1.5 patch but the bug seems to have been corrected in 1.7.2.6. (I skipped the 1.7.1.5 hotfix patch entirely because it broke tents/vehicles and fixed nothing so I can't comment much on how tents were in that patch)

I've been playing this game since early may and I can tell you with certainty that subsequent saves after the "first" save are working fine (for the most part, like I said, sometimes tents can be buggy and lose items at random). In general, once you have a tent that has saved items through a server restart it will usually work fine from there on.

Saving the tent multiple times may or may not even matter (I do it) but I suspect the most important thing is time. Wait a bit after saving a tent before you log out, it seems if you log out to soon, (before your save data gets transfered from your server to the Hive) those items can be lost.

Here is my tent routine.

Place tent

Save it a few times.

Chuck one random item in the tent and save a couple times (mainly for my own curiosity, this step is not necessary).

Go on my way.

After server restart check the tent (sometimes the random item is gone sometimes it is not, really does not matter which. Sometimes the tent is even gone) It happens, it's not a mistake on your part, it's just the buggy nature of the hive database.

Add all my gear to the tent and save. From here it's usually smooth sailing.

If you take items from the tent and do not save afterward, those items will be back in the tent next server restart (Exploit)

If you take items from the tent and save afterward, those items will not be back in the tent next server restart.

Also, occasionally when a server restarts, all tents and vehicles will fail to spawn at all. They will be back next restart, you just have to wait it out (I've gotten into the habit of logging out at a tent so that when I restart my server I can quickly log in and make sure tents/vehicles have spawned properly).

Tents are still erratic as hell, that's really the only rule you should know. After a server boot, sometimes they are there, sometimes they are not. Sometimes gear vanishes, sometimes not...

Thank you for the info, really appreciate it. This more along the lines of my train of thought. I've not had many issues with tents over the course of my play. I have had them glitch and dissapear, but I never cared much until I actually had a great arsenal that fell victim to the buggy nature of this mod.

Oh well, at least I know I have some work to do when I get back in game this evening :)

What SystemiK just described mathces my experince as well. Saving in the tents works just fine, it used to be bugged so that only the initial save worked. Now it seems that you can pitch a tent easily anywhere, but after the first restart tents may move a bit if they are inside a tree, in the slope, or inside a rock. If that happens your items are destroyed. After the first restart they don't move anymore, hence things stay there. Sometimes tents just don't spawn at all and you'll have to wait for a new restart.

Have not and will not try if duping works. I know duping is widespread, but personally I think it is just as bad as hacking items in, it ruins the game. Also if caught by admin providing evidence from the logs it is a bannable offense.
