Blood and food relationship overhaul.

Recommended Posts

Currently we can regain blood by either eating canned food (+200 instant blood), eating cooked meat (+800 instant blood) or getting a blood transfusion (+12000 instant blood).

Now this is all fine and dandy but it doesn't make much sense to chug down 6 slices of steak in under 10 seconds to increase blood by an instant 4800.

Now we all know that the health system, especially broken bones, can use some shaping up.

But not all is about realism, I'm interested in some actual gameplay effects as well. Therefor I propose blood regeneration.

Now hold your horses, keep your panties untangled and put those flaming torches down. I've searched the suggestion forum and I know that people frown upon blood regeneration because it supposedly makes the game easier. Wrong.

I'm not suggesting something to make the game easier, I'm proposing something to make the game harder.

Getting canned food and or cooked meat is easy, clicking the eat button for 5-10 times is also very easy not to forget that getting a blood transfusion is even more ridiculously easy.

Stop with the introduction, just give me the darn suggestion, well here you go:

I suggest that instead of getting an instantaneous amount of blood from food, it should slowly increase overtime.

Not only is this more realistic, it will makes it much harder for players to get out of a pinch. It'll keep your adrenaline pumping for a longer time. What if somebody sneaks up on me now? This can go really bad.

Restoring blood becomes more than a trip to the cluttered inventory and turns into a race against time and will keep you on edge. Is that a zombie sound? Better stop eating.

1) Idle

Having both a green hunger icon and a green thirst icon a player should regenerate 0,1 blood per second.

Don't worry already, as soon as you get hungry or thirsty again the regeneration stops dead in it's track. Consider this a small bonus for eating and drinking properly.

This results in a meager 6 blood regenerated per minute or 360 blood per hour.

2) Canned foods.

Eating canned foods should take 10 seconds of stuffing it in your face and swallowing it, this will make it so you have to devote at least a small amount of time completely vulnerable. Sure you can start running when needed, but you will drop those beans and never savor their sweet gooey taste. Now after you've eaten canned food, instead of getting an instant 200 blood you will boost your blood regeneration to 1 blood per second for 5 minutes.

This results in a total of 300 blood regenerated over 5 minutes (60 per minute).

3) Cooked meats.

Eating cooked meats should also take 10 seconds because it's meat and you should take at least that much time to enjoy it (also the actual legitimate reason above). After you've sank your teeth in some glorious scorched meat because you can't cook, instead of getting an instant 800 blood you will boost your blood regeneration to 3 blood per second for 5 minutes.

This results in a total of 900 blood regenerated over 5 minutes (180 per minute).

4) Blood packs.

One minor animation later and your friend is back on his feet. Well I feel sorry for you but blood transfusion never go that fast. Have some more adrenaline that feeds on your soul while your blood is only at 1000:

Giving a blood transfusion should take 5 seconds of vulnerability, once it's been done the player that was on the receiving end will not gain an instant 12000 blood but will regenerate 200 blood per second until their blood is maxed out when not moving and only 50 blood per second while moving at walking speed.

While they are regenerating they can not use main firearms (they can use pistols) or run.

This results in a total of 12000 blood regenerated over 1 minute (12000 per minute) when not moving.

or

This results in a total of 12000 blood regenerated over 4 minutes (3000 per minute) when moving at walking speed.

5) Other tidbits of information.

- It should not be possible to stack the effects of blood regeneration.

So eating 5 cans of beans wont push your blood regeneration to 5 blood per second. It will stay on 1 blood per second but last 5 times as long.

- Only the strongest regeneration will be active, if you eat beans and for some reason waste food by eating steak afterwards, you'll only get the blood regeneration from the steak.

- After you are done regenerating and you have green hunger and thirst you'll go back to regenerating almost no blood per second. If you are thirsty you wont regenerate at all but it doesn't matter because the amount you regenerate is so little you wont even worry about it.

Always be on edge. Gaining blood will take time, patience and nerves that can outlast the adrenaline rush from not wanting to die. It's arguably easier to gain blood, but at the same time harder as it's easier to die because your blood wont be full in just a few seconds.

A blood transfusion is a pretty instantaneous increase in blood (no digestion required) although it would/could/should take longer to administer one.

At the risk of sounding like a dick...we've already discussed this before. Lots of times.

I'll repeat what I contributed before:

Based on dying from starvation from full health taking 90 minutes and dying from blood loss IRL after 4 pints of blood, then one pint of blood IRL equates to 3,000 blood in-game and a player should regenerate 3,000 blood/hour. Or .83 blood/second.

Green hunger = full regeneration, yellow = half, red = no regeneration, black = starvation. Green thirst = full regeneration, red = no regeneration, black = dying of thirst.

Remove all food regeneration. Since blood packs are 1 unit of blood, or 1 pint, then they should give you an instant 3,000 blood however they are used. I'd even make it so blood packs can be used on yourself, which would increase demand and force players to fight for resources more while limiting the ability to shrug off battle wounds as currently done. By decreasing the healing of blood packs while allowing more players to use them, demand would go up and fights would be more brutal.
