What Happened:

So from the beginning,

I was complaining on the forum about my previous home server not being run by admins, constantly bad fps and never any restarts, I made a post and a generous guy asked me to move to his server thinking that it would be good for my team. Said he would get me an ATV aswell so I thought sweet cool admin etc etc..

Me and my friend login to the server, everything fine and dandy, set up a temp. base while we get one of our new members from elektro, we head there by foot, its late, nvg's semi automatics, 5k m away, we come across the back of cherno and hear the sound of an army truck (not sure of its correct name) we follow this just north of cherno to the 2 barns just north of the radio tower, guessing it was refueling or looking for spare parts. We patiently wait for around 5-10 minutes for a clear shot and knowing how many guys there were there.

Not noticing and adrenaline rush we kill the first guy not knowing there was a second just behind him, so then me and my friends are kicked by the server admin 0:40, at 1:04 the server admin warns us not to take his truck, we proceed with what we had planned to take it and kill the remaining bandit regardless of what the admin told us, we sit tight in the shrubs waiting for a sign to shoot then at 6:00 all 3 are kicked again with no reason AGAIN.

We clearly have done nothing wrong, visual proof of innocence from our part and admin abuse from the other, the ban follows at 18:50 with (BattlEye: Admin Ban), I then went on to ask the owner on the forums and got this excuse..

While I don't agree with what the admins in this particular case are alleged to have done, I also take issue with your (Rush Crush) blanket statement.

As an admin I'm sick of people coming onto my servers, that I do pay for, and doing whatever the hell they want and then attempting to hide under Rocket's coat-tails. I am a proactive admin that protects my player base from teleporting, scripting, bullshit players. And if you think for one second that you're going to come into one of my servers and do whatever you want just because it's a "public server" you've got another thing coming.

Now, I won't protect them from good, honest PvP play. In fact, I'm all about the PvP. I want players dying. I want blood pumping from bullet holes and leaking from eyeballs. I want mayhem and banditry and carnage ... but I want it within the game boundries.

I have rules on my servers, such as absolutely no as50-TWS allowed, and I check the gear logs of every player coming in. If people cannot abide by those rules ... then *boot to the ass* and good riddance. I have a great, solid core player base because I do, in fact, protect them from shitheads who think they're entitled to do whatever they want on an open server.

And please don't think we're all one big happy clan, because we're not. I'll shoot my players full of holes and I expect the same from them. They all know if I'm in the game that I'm fair game. They also know that I rock the best "legal" gear possible and my corpse is always a goldmine when they loot it. Also, they know that if I need to be in game as "admin" because I'm doing something like checking a glitch out or screen capping a skiddie camp, or whatever, that I announce it in Global, and they abide by the request.

But as far as tolerating self-entitled smart ass kids who think that because it's a "Public Server" they can run amuck doing whatever they wish ... sorry but that's not happening.

Now, as far as what the OP and his crew have done. I see no harm there and you'd never be booted for fair play like that on my servers, even if it's my vehicle(s) you're stealing or me that you're trying to (or do) kill. You're all more than welcome to set up camp on US 1550 or US 2522. I'd be happy to have you, just be advised that I do shoot back. *grin*

The two servers are set roughly 10 hours apart so that when one is day the other is night. That way my players can choose their enviroment. They're also both set up on a dedicated, high-speed server system. I also have a dedicated TeamSpeak server for my players and I will provide groups or clans their own passworded channel. And I'm moving into the area of offering my players two private hives as well. Currently Lingor Island is up and running and soon I hope to have the second private hive running the standard Chernarus map.

Rush Crush, UK Mac - id say stay out of this, you weren't there and you are just taking the side of some 'edited' video. At least get the full facts before coming in and waving your willys around.

Anyway on topic, I was the player that survived this attempt.... let me begin by saying there is no admin abuse on the server, infact we have died 10s of times since having it up, even to blatant cheaters in the past and just started again and licked our wounds and got on with it. Experience taught us that cheaters could be stopped, but ill get on to that later.

Lets start from the beginning, one of the server admins invited these guys to our server on a friendly basis... said we would let them setup a base there and even put together the GAZ for them, yes thats right we collected the materials and got the car running to hand over to them in Cherno. They knew this before joining, well im sure they knew they were getting a vehicle.

Now onto the scenario above, me and another player were happily driving along in our lorry (URAL or whatever its called) and then the game glitched, the truck the size of that got stuck on a random leaf, you probably had that and yes its annoying, you put in the effort to get it running, fill it with goods and then the game bugs out and the front wheels are wrecked by a leaf. OK we thought fair enough game sucks, but get on with it. Then we had contact initially we knew it was trouble as these guys obviously had tracked us so were where in the disadvantage but as ive said before we have gone through this previously and come off worse and just get on with it.

Then our other admin joins and says, these guys are friendly they are the ones we invited in... so we relaxed off and bang one of us went down. Now we were a little miffed, but given the benefit of the doubt we assumed that they didnt know we were the guys who were going to help them out to start off (OK im not saying forever there wouldnt have been combat between us, but initially we were prepared to hold arms and help them setup with a car etc) Anyway, so im left and this is where things get iffy, and the full video is not actually shown... I get tracked through the woods and im talking they cant see me (as they show in some parts of this video) but my path is followed exactly by one of the players... now im not going to state categorically that they used a cheat ie Dayz Navigator BUT having experienced cheaters, abusers, glitchers etc you are naturally suspicious when something like this happens. Remember im on the end of a stalking and I go along way from the truck, circling round etc and all the time my path is tracked to a tee'

At this point we send out a admin message, no response...our other admin says he can try to talk to you, so you yes you are kicked. You rejoin, we try again with a message, this time im tracked and hit and yes its annoying... but we have 2 options - 1st is we have 2 guys coming up behind 1 guy who we 'believed' was using the tracking system (be it dayz navigator etc) so we could have killed and probably got the other one. 2nd is we message again but no response and based on what we believed was going on we decided that a kick/ban was the only way to go.

Rightly or wrongly its for us to decide, not randoms on the forum - none of their business, the OP yes im glad you posted this, your video looks good for you and watching it objectively part of me thinks we came to the wrong conclusion but we didnt have that evidence to hand at the time and all we had was the offer to you of admin chat and the posting of our TS server.

As for the server itself, moan, groan, kill it, bin it - do whatever, we have parted ways with one of the admins and have decided to move to a UK/EU setup as this is where we are based. Unfortunately he is the one who can check the scripts etc and can see who is cheating, we dont ahve that control so relied on information and have decided that this is not good enough for us as the 2 you contacted me and the other player, are experienced gamers and are fair (although you might not think it) we just have had alot of griefers on the server and as I say we had to use our judgement on this one, with some evidence that we can muster and believe me it was a absolute last resort that you guys were kicked and banned (your video lasts for 15 mins or so) the actual scenario must have gone on for 30mins, so its not like we insta kick and insta ban... IF we were like that, the minute you killed our first man you would have been banned, you weren't as we wanted a fair combat and we wanted you guys to be a part of the server community.

So apologies to you and your mate, try and see our view of things, its hard to explain unless you are in that situation as admins but believe me when I state if we didnt have info to suggest or believe something dodgy was going on (and again let me reiterate im not calling you cheaters, we could have acted overly suspicious as people do sometimes.. its called being human) then you couldh ave had that truck and rode off into the sunset with it and we would have even given you the GAZ as well as there are no grudges held.

As I say feel free to play in the server, its likely to die off at the end of its 30 day term anyhow as we want more control and hopefully that means scenarios like this wont crop up again.

@Server Admin: You guys had nametags enabeld on the server. Guess how they could track you in the woods...

You can even see it in the video. Opposite2u is using his mouse-wheel to enable the ArmA II interaction menu and starts scanning your guessed location until a nametag with the distance pops up. Surprise!

BTW: I won't start on how unprofessional that chase, even with nametags enabled, was ( :P ). The muzzle-flash of you was clearly visible in Opposite2u's NVG so he should have known where you are. Yet he still asks his friend and starts searching for your nametag until he finds you and shoots at that nametag. You had been hidden behind bushes and he wouldn't have seen you without nametags as he had no direct field of view on you, but because you have them enabled on your server, they will be shown if a player aims at your direction and is close. He saw the nametag and started shooting at them.

To stop players from abusing ArmA II mechanics to get an advantage or to stop those cheap ways of rendering camo etc. useless, I suggest you set your server with those options:

Nametags [OFF], Waypoints [OFF], Crosshair [OFF], 3rd Person [ON/OFF]

Explanation:

- Without nametags, players can't scan the woods until a nametag pops up and shoot players, they wouldn't be able to see without nametags.

- Without waypoints, players can't use that map-function to quickly get an ingame location marker and a distance to a target, rendering a compass, GPS and a rangefinder useless. DayZ get's way too arcade that way.

- Without Crosshairs, players can't effectively use weapons (especialyl not .50 cal. sniper rifles) in close-combat to kill others while running/strafing them.

- 3rd Person allows players to look around corners in 3rd person, even if the guy couldn't look around in 1st person view. Some players - especially casual gamers - mostly run in 3rd person and only switch to 1st during combat. They would probably stop playing on a server that only has 1st person view. So it's up to you to decide wether you want it on or off.

BTW: I also find it fishy that long parts of the video are just sound with a black screen. But giving the benefit of the doubt, I couldn't detect any cheating in the rest of the video, just some game mechanic abuse that is a server admins fault if they keep that stuff enabled.

What I learned in this community is this: If you leave small holes open for abuse, players will use them as there would be no tomorrow. Fair play is only happening if you force them to it! So deactivate nametags and some other stuff and you won't be tracked that fast anymore. Just my 2 :beans: . ;)

Maybe, I cant verify that or not - im sure the lads in question will say that and as im a trusting person id take their word for it. But at the time, it wasnt just knowing where I was, it was the blatant copying of my zig zag towards a building ie I moved away in a zig zag pattern, the player followed me in that pattern and only stopped once I got so far and past a building.... idk.

As for the server settings, as mentioned we didnt get the control of them so we had to just go with what the other guy had put... one of the reasons we will run it as a 2 in the future as we can get that control.

Im not making excuses, just trying to put our point across in how we felt at the time of the incident - all you can do as an admin is make a judgement call, we tried our best to 'contact' them using the admin chat in game, its not perfect but we did what we did. Ive apologised and hope the lads affected can continue to enjoy their dayz experience on whatever server they choose to play on.

The plain and simple fact is, I could have not even bothered replying to this thread, I didnt have to type up 'our thought process' and I didnt have to apologise. But I have done all those things off my own back.

Its a learning process, as stated we dont care if we are killed in game... thats part of it all, and in this case if we are wrong then im happy to learn from the mistakes made and become a better admin for it. What I dont appreciate is 'random' forum posts trying to incite on this thread, as 1) the OP deserves more respect than having his complaint derailed and 2) as a admin attempting to be honest and explain what went on from our point of view, it dosent help having people come in and look to gain kudos or whatever for flaming an admin. Have you not read the thread? Server will go offline as we are not funding it next month....

If you want to ensure this happens, keep checking the server lists I really doubt a company would want to keep hosting a server they are not getting payment for.... as it stands id assume you just want to waste someones time in getting the server disconnected, when in reality its hardly the worst one out there and if I was really petty I could make a case against you as a player(s)

But im not, I dont actually care - ive apologised if we got it wrong, its a game.... infact if you are that anal about this stuff, id suggest renting your own server.. dosent cost much, even if you rely on mummy and daddy to fund you, its $30 which is like £22 not life or death by any means.

Not sure what your beef here is still? You were unbanned the same day it happened. You have received and explanation of what we thought was happening. You have received an public and a private apology from myself at the very least.

You have no idea the time and energy it takes to run a server and to TRY an keep up with hackers and cheaters. Put your money where you mouth is and put up your own $35 a month and see how difficult it is dealing with hackers and cheaters on a daily basis. The little information that is out there is hoarded by a select few, questions go unanswered, and the whole time you are accosted by hackers and players alike each wanting their pound of flesh and all the time your hard earned money is paying for their amusement. Don't like then don't play on our server. You were invited with honest intentions. Hind sight is 20/20. When dealing with hacker and cheaters you only have minutes to deal with issues or they quickly spiral out of control. Walk a mile in my shoes before you want to crucify someone willing to pay for your gaming experience.

People will likely still scream "abuse" but I agree with you.

You guys have no idea how stressful it is to basically be relegated to babysitting your own server from assholes who just want to grief people. A guy I play with was spawned killed for 30 minutes by a guy teleporting and continued to follow him through multiple servers (no idea how he did this). I made sure he was caught on tape and even then I only kicked him from the server. When dealing with this 24/7 you're basically constantly on the defensive so when it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck you often end up sending it packing lest the prick kill everyone on the server with a push of a button (this happened twice on my server in 5 minutes immediately after I updated to 1.7.2.6).

Stressful or not, you buy a server to allow players to do what is intended while sticking to the rules, because you paid with your money doesn't give you the right to bend the rules when ever it pleases you, im not saying all admins are bad, ive reported this server because i feel the admin was in the wrong regardless if they were trying to put together a viehcle for me or not, i agreed for the transport, deception is apart of this game, I am bandit!
