joeoblong@yahoo.com 614 Posted September 14, 2012 So about a weeks and a half ago a squad mate bet me $20.00 that i couldn't kill 1k zombies without killing another player. Thinking easy I'll just farm some nowhere town and make some easy cash. He then sets down the rules. (This is all on a honor system)Rule 1. It had to be in Elektro or ChernoRule 2. I could not have any protection, besides my wits. (No other squad mates watching my back)Rule 3. I only had 1 life to do this in.Rule 4. I could not goto my tent and resupply, everything had to be "found".Rule 5. Could not be on a server with less then 25 players. So I started out just overwatching Cherno and sniping zombies as they popped. As you can expect this brought a lot of unwanted attention. Manytimes I barely escaped with my life. But none the less I survived and was able to eat enough to restore my blood count. I would roam the city to find supplies switching to a MP5 SD. I was lucky enough to find ample supplies of DMR mags while in Cherno. Someone started "hunting" me, or my paranoia told me they were. I ended up moving along to Elektro I find a nice little spot and am quite successful for several days. I later found a AS-50 on the hill with 5 mags. So I take a few shot from up there.I then notice a single survivor with a large group of zombies on his tail. I start popping them off. Of course he freaks out and starts to run around like crazy. He is about 600 meters away so I cannot tell him I am not shooting at him. I notice he switched from his Axe to a Enfield. I think I'll pop a few more and move to a my spot. I mean yeah the gun can reach me, but most people aren't that accurate with scoped weapons let alone open sights. I decided foolishly to stay put... Blam Right in the dome! 689 zombies downed and a guy at 600 ish meters away nails me! Mother effing A! Dude I wish I knew who you were... You are one hell of a shot! Sorry about the AK74 Kobra in my back pack, but I needed a gun with bullets. Enjoy the rest of the gear! Take care of my NVG's and Range finder they are the only ones i've ever found.I salute you sir! But damn now I am $20 bucks poorer. >:(
AnnieGYG 32 Posted September 14, 2012 Awesome story, I have no idea what people mean when they say they go "Bambi hunting" (killing defenceless people) because they are bored and the KoS is all down to boredom. This game is 100% what you make of it, use your imagination, set challenges, set up a base and defend it.Maybe the new leaderboards can make use of stuff like this "most zombies killed without killing a player" hahaSorry about the $20 though but the story is worth it :)
aHzdaNny 49 Posted September 14, 2012 Most people around here come on to cry about how they've died. You belong to a very special group of people. And dying even lost you money. Beans on you!
Faceman Peck 93 Posted September 14, 2012 (edited) this was a good try to the OP and a fun story to read. Next time bet him pints at the pub, by round four he'll have paid you back B) Edited September 14, 2012 by Faceman Peck
joeoblong@yahoo.com 614 Posted September 14, 2012 Thanks guys, been holding off making this thread for a couple days now. I'll see him tonight with cash in hand. I dread his gloating :P It was a blast tho and worth every penny. Some of the confusion you can create by killing zombies chasing players is very amusing. Anemosology 18 Posted September 14, 2012 of all the survivors you could have come across...You came across the '1337' Qu1ck sc0p3 MLG pro Leeroy Enfield wizard. If he doesn't pay you atleast half I will be dissapoint, 689 is no easy feat.
malau (DayZ) 36 Posted September 14, 2012 There are discussions from Admins on here about how cheats are disguising a really excellent weapon (eg - AS50) as an unthreatening weapon (eg - Enfield), I think that's what happened to you. Someone who has been running and stopped to aim, his crosshairs would be all over the place, no way he could get off a 600 metre shot under those (or pretty much any) circumstances. After all, a target, unscoped at 600 metres on an Enfield would be barely afew pixels in size if anything.

If you're saying that we're supposed to make shit like this up, then all I can say is "bad game design". Shouldn't the game itself be challenging?

I kept blasting away! If he was I still got sloppy and it is my fault.*Edit* Sal please man don't go all negative Nancy on me, it was a fun challenge.Edit 2* Gams I look at it this way, those you are describing will grow bored of DayZ and move along sooner or later. I have no problem with the death matchers or the true bandits really. They are allowed to make their own fun as well. DayZ is harsh if a person can't deal with it, there are other titles for the style of play they want. Edited September 14, 2012 by Pendragon

Unfortunately there are people on these forums that believe the exact opposite, that the game is made simply by the core mechanics and the only efficient way to play is to be a bandit. They do not care about putting themselves in there characters shoes or setting there own goals. There only goal is to acquire the best gear then kill noobs with it. They see a certain play style as "winning" and never stray from that path, as much as I think they ruin the community in-game, I can't help but feel sorry for them. Which is kinda the point of this game, do as you will :).

That's why game mechanics shouldn't favor any playstyle but have a variety (at least 2) of equally valid playstyles for players to choose from.If you were talking about me then all I can say is "bad reading". Every game has a design and mechanics. Just because you have an open world it doesn't mean there is no design. And unless you are scripting and/or can change the map at your will then you can't do "whatever". I was looking thru a scope, he may or may not of been the shooter. I cannot say for certain as I think about it. I do know he did point it in my direction and appeared to be taking aim. As for the Deathville comment, I had a surprisingly easier time then I expected. I kinda figured I'd be thunerdomed or something before I even hit 100. It maybe ignorant to believe this guy was just incredibly lucky, so I will wear the ignorance cap. :)
