Intro for standalone , movie by Rocket.

Recommended Posts

Just one of those random thoughts.

You download the game and after installing you are greeted by a camera panning across the sea and then onto the beach..it zooms into someone , sprinting madly , behind him over a small rise you see one then two then a heap of infected chasing the guy.

The camera keeps zooming right in to the new spawn, patrol pack, small peaked cap, panicky face that keeps looking over his shoulder.

We recognise it is Rocket , running up the beach on the edge of a town he runs into a small building , the infected right on his six start lumbering in the door , he bolts out the other side with an axe in one hand and drinking a can of coke. Sprinting down the street he turns into some shops, grabs an Alice pack, picks up a Mak and lee Enfield, stashes a tent and some beans in his backpack then bolts out the rear door. Infected are still chasing, he stops and axes a couple then starts bleeding, makes his way to the hospital . After busting the window to gain entry he picks up a bmedkit and patches his wound, grabs a morphine and bloodback then runs into a church.

Something glints in the far corner, he crouches over to it and the camera pans and focuses on can of Dew. Rocket looks around panicky and swoops it into his pack. Just as he is about to exit a Bandit runs past flat out with a coyote, fully kitted out, M24 on his shoulder, m16acog in hand, g17 in holster. He sprays and prays at the church door but misses as he is still running flat out... Rocket goes prone and shouts FRIENDLY ! FRIENDLY! then 2 heroes come running past shooting at the bandit with m1911's..followed of course by 20 infected. One of them quickly salutes as he sees Rocket lurking at the door and says good luck fellow survivor then continues the chase..we see it is Matt Lightfoot.

Rocket now runs down to the beach, breathing hard and scared by all of his encounters in the last minute. Clothes now dirty and slightly blood spattered. He sees a boat on the beach , checks a small industrial building and gets a can of fuel, runs to the boat and juices it up then heads over to Skalisty. Once there he cruises up to a small opening in the forest, pitches his tent under a tree, collects some wood and cranks a fire, opens a can of beans and places it nearby to warm up, swills his can of Dew then looks at the camera.. 'Hi...i'm Rocket..and this is Dayz ! '

1.30 or 2 min vid intro would be a cool and amusing thing, not something that had to played everytime just the first time you installed.

Has a game dev done this yet ?

I like the idea. But i think he should be constantly running through the towns, looking for that one thing, and once he finds it he drops to his knee's, smiles, and hold's it up to the sky in victory, and that thing is his beans.

You forgot the bandit that shot him twice before he was ever made it off the coast. Then you fogot the hacker who teleported him to nowhere land. That is more common event then then this misleading story. Ohh the stand alone you are talking about.... maybe that will be a better experience.

After reading the story. It would probably be about an hour long opening cut scene. I don't want cut scences ruining my game. I don't want cut scences at all. This is not hollywood, it's a game. Hollywood has already screwed the industry up enough as it is.

How do you have a rifle on the shoulder and one in your hand?

You don't give Rocket enough credit. He wouldn't yell "friendly" after being shot at, especially by a bandit.... That makes no sence. Makes him sound week. Rocket would have yelled "Die you barbaric asshat", lined up the shot and ended the bandits life.

It isn't impossible to have two primary weapons? If you had two primary's that took the same rounds then having a second primary is a great idea, and i think they're implementing this idea into the standalone.

I like it. I'd rather them not waste time and funding on it, but I like it.

To the second primary commenter, a good number of people hold two. It's not hard to imagine having a secondary holstered, a primary in hand, and a backup primary on a gun-sling over your shoulder. That's the way it should be, rather than putting an AS50 in a backpack clearly unable to fit it without dismantling it. =|

ArmA has some pretty good cinematic tools with it, doesn't it? I feel like the mission editor can do cutscenes for intro and outro with some pretty clean scripting and camera control, although I've never tried it myself. I'm surprised there isn't more DayZ machinima. Is there any? I remember seeing a trailer for a story about a helicopter repairman living through the initial zombie outbreak, but the voice acting was spotty and I couldn't find the full episodes, so I forgot about it.

Definitely a scene included along those lines, beanz are the king of the game :) I was just putting forward a quick story that covered a lot of the aspects of dayz, finding your pack, getting gear, zed chase, bandaging, kos bandits, heroes. I had your exact scene in mind when i did the Dew thing in the church :)

You could easily put all of that that into a 1 minute 30 second -2 minute opening scene. :) It is not meant to be a cut scene, just an initial install opening to the game, something you can choose to watch or skip.

The bandit with the guns (you do know you can carry three primarys ? You just cannot see the ones in your pack obviously. That scene is to show someone fully geared up whereas Rocket is initially a new spawn with nothing. He shouts friendly as it is his first spawn = inexperienced and scared. The hero salutes to show the side the hero is meant to portray and what Rocket as a noob may one day become.

I don't see why we could not carry a scoped gun on one shoulder and a close in assault type weapon in our hand, three primarys as it is now is a bit of overkill though i think.

I though that too, its something that is not directly involved with the game and time consuming for a small dev team. Just would be cool and possibly something unique for a dev to appear in a scene about his game , plus.. he should have to eat the beanz :)

I feel the same about the guns, one on shoulder and one in hand is ok, as50's and such in backpack and the ability to switch out in 2 seconds is just ridiculous :) Atm i have two dmr's in my pack (waiting to give one back to my partner who died) and m14 aim in hand. Will be quite happy if standalone drops the gun quantity that can be carried.

I don't necessarily mind the amount of guns, but the whole system needs an overhaul. Guns should have proper size and weight, weight effecting how fast you can maneuver and change out said weapon, lots of other little things lol.

Btw, good on you for using an M14 AIm, just started using it myself, and while I've yet to get in a good engagement, I'm definitely favoring it to an AS50. The only one I would trade out for either of those would be an svd camo. there's something so much more satisfying about them.

However i do think that at the end as Rocket says "...and this is Day Z" we hear a pffffttttt and he is sniped in the head.
