Why is the M14 so overlooked?

The m14 is one of my favourite gun in the game too. Just a quick lucky story from a couple of days ago on Lingor. I died and spawned right next to a downed chopper. Only thing left there is an M14 with 3 mags :) . I run a bit to get to the NW airfield and I start hearing AK fire. I manage to go up the hill overlooking the airfield a bit then i see a 3 man group running from the distance towards the barracks. One of them go in the barracks, the other 2 go in the school/offices right next to it. After a while they all go out and start running towards the control tower across the airfield. I open fire and kill 2 of them (range was about 350-400 metres). The other one manage to get to the control tower, he stay there for a while the go to the top floor. I fire a couple of shots at him but miss.. then he alt+f4 <_< . I waited a bit then went to loot those 2 bodies (at that point i really needed everything). I walked away with a coyote backpack, an m24, m9sd, all the tools exept rangefinder, food and water :P

I see a lot of people preferring the FAL to the M14 (not necessarily here, just the people I've come across) and aside from the burst fire (which probably does nothing but waste super rare ammo at distances) there is nothing good about the FAL that isn't better on the M14. Personal preference anyway.

I am now wondering whether on my main character I want an M24 and M14, or DMR and M14, I can play on both day and night servers, I have the NVG's, so night servers would probably be better suited, but I love the M24, definitely my preferred choice over the DMR. Oh and to add I don't set up camps or anything, I'm not too fussed about having to start all over. And if worst comes to the worst I have the location of a camp site I can "borrow" some stuff from if need be. Decisions, Decisions.

Burst fire with FN-FAL is pretty useless due to high recoil, rare ammo and the fact that double tap to center mass is more than enough to kill any player. I've had a FN-FAL and while it is terrific gun in itself, I find M14 superior or at least equal in every way. Some may prefer the iron sights to CCO and darker (more camouflage) colour of the FN-FAL though.

And lets face it, semi auto is always better than full auto.. well maybe not in cod, but in dayz and in rl, full auto is just for wasting ammo. And with semi you can still shoot very, very fast.

Full auto is good for machine guns, which you need for really effective suppressive fire. The mad minute wouldn't be as effective without them. Most light machine guns are operated with a 2 man team anyway, to be the most effective. For a battle rifle, I prefer semi as well. I've always been a big believer in accurate fire being the most effective. Dunno, maybe it was the indoc.

m14 is a great gun I use it for defending myself from players then switch to a m4 cco sd to take out zombies its the perfect combo in my opinion

Amen, OP. The M14 Aim is hands down my favorite weapon in the game. I'd take it over anything else. Super accurate, great at short-mid-long ranges (assuming you can aim and time it worth a damn), and 90% of the time I get the kill in a single shot.

The M14 is the best gun imo. I hate sniping and most assault rifles are horrible. The M14 is definitely my favorite gun in the game!

Possibly my favourite weapon after the cz550, but only come into it once. heck a lot of weapons are overlooked by me because i underfind them :)

Only once? Damn, you're unlucky. It really is a beast of a gun, yes.
