Inland or Coastal Isolation?

Okay, here is a question. :huh: Which would be the better idea, find a land vehical and find a spot to set up camp whay inland or in/on the mountians; or is it a better idea to try find a boat and opperate along the coast from a Island base? I'm leaning towards the coastal idea but I figured I should see what some of you guys who've maybe tried this approach have found out.

Also is it better to go with a scoped rifle, or use a Shotgun or assult rifle?

Coastal,Never tried it but it seems safer,and less area to protect on the island.

That is what I was thinking, now if only I could find a boat so I don't freeze to death on the water crossings.

Actually tho, I just noticed a small isue with my plan, most new players spawn on the coast and a boat would be easy to spot, let alone get sniped at if it goes by surtian areas when there's enough poeple on the server. :huh:

I like being Inland, I can find a good spot out the way, and set up a nice camp with my truck. always serves me well, i dont like being too close to where every one spawns.

Very good points by the both of ya. I agree with Haruto about it gettin spotted by players already on the island, helos tho idk, its fairly rare to for me to se on along or near the coast.

The only this I have against inland tho is that a land vehical and maybe a map or compass would be needed to get from place to place with a descent speed. And for me, finding vehicals is a nightmare for the most part. The map and compass have also been a slight pain to locate too now I think about it... >_<

The only decent boat is the PBX. The others are really, really slow. If you do the boat thing be sure to stock up on heat packs and antibiotics. You will be more prone to getting cold and catching the flu (which, I have read is infectious, so you can get your whole team sick).

Also, if you stash the boat by any kind of rocks, BE CAREFUL how you swim to the boat. I have found that certain rock formations will just kill you instantly.

As a camp and vehicle hunter (mostly heli hunter) I can safely say if someone starts searching, there is no safe hiding spot. there just isn't.

I have never gotten sick from swimming to the islands and back, both daytime and night, tho never hurts to have antibiotics with you and a pile of wood with matches.

I'm more and more inclined to make your vehicle inaccessible on foot or require repair/fuel so to make it more of a chore for other ppl to the point of not being worth stealing.

Tents. Underwater or between 3 closely grouped evergreen trees. *xmas trees*

I view vehicles and camps same as i do cell phones in RL. They are like a leash and slow me down. Gimme a Czech or Alice pack, a decent assault rifle and handgun (currently M4A1 & G17) and im good to go. To me a post apoc setting is a fluid situation and planting roots is unwise. If i cant carry it, i dont need it.

Same here. The thing about setting up camp on a small island out at sea is what happens when you die? Sure your camp will be there but how are you going to get back to the camp without a boat? I have been playing this game for 2 months now and I have only ever came across 1 boat and it was fucked.

I know where your coming from, but they, like cell phones, can also be a connivance at times too, for example, what I've gone and done is use my camp as a temp base when I do hunting and cooking. I've also liked trying to find a truck for fast moving and for a little aded protection when going through places that look a lil dicey. Had enough bad issues in towns that I try to avoid'em now really. All I got is the starter backpack, a handgun and a rifle (CZ 550) I've been using for hunting and as binoculars. So right now, other then the towns I visited this morning, I haven't been in one since.

I would think that inland would be safer. People do swim out to the island sometimes and server hop looking for camps. Also when you are driving to shore in a boat you are A LOT more vulnerable then if you are in a vehicle (in a car you are able to drive into cover). Plus only 3 boats spawn per map. Making it A LOT harder to find. And the fishing boats are damn near useless because they are about the same speed as swimming. So I would go with Inland ANY day of the week. And I would recommend slightly inland somewhere between Cherno and Elektro.

It doesnt matter wher you go. Any hacker WILL find your stuff and ruin your day. Happened to me. Spent a full day getting a car repaired and everything totaly legit, and i log back on the car is gone and the tent is gone. There is NO REASON for anyone to be where we stashed it. Obvious hacker just came in and made a mockary of all the work it took.

Pretty pissed at the game today because of this...

So to answer your question...NO WHERE IS SAFE. Never has been and never will be. The only "safe" spot was way off the map, but thats A) a dick move and B) illegal.

You CAN swim to the Kalisty Island. I've swam out of there after a boat disappeared when a server restarted... just immediately set up a campfire to warm up and I was ok. Sure, it takes a long time as you're no Michael Phelps, but it can be done. Just stock up on heatpacks and swim back at your camp and set a fire and hope you won't get sick :D

Edit: Yeah and that said; If you set camp up there, make sure you have a tent or a vehicle to store some heatpacks and antibiotics, if possible.

Well, I found a truck on a server and it had 6 tents in it. Took 3, set them up in good well hidden spots, saved the truck.. came back later on and the server had restarted and for some reason the truck and all tents were gone. So I think it's a saving problem.

As a hacker can't steal your tents you know. Only you can un-pitch your tent. So it's either there empty or flattened if a player/hacker has messed with it.

Oh and on another server, coming back to my maintent that was barely visible; The tree it was "in" had fallen and my tent was flat in front of it .... :PPP

No other tree had fallen, so .. I'm thinking the server restarted and the tent and the tree collided somehow and both got destroyed :D

Gotta remember it's only an alpha.. but damn, I sure would hope for some non-buggy way of storing some loot.. after all, I've been alive for a LONG time and know of alot of other camps set by players and if I only could manage to get a reliable tent set up, I could steal all that stuff for myself.. *evil laughter*

But nope, so far I've been very unlucky. And if the game really isn't about being a packrat and trying to make a camp of some kind, then I have to say; I've become bored of it. I want to make a longer stand and "settle" a bit more than constantly running around and merely surviving. I need to "grow" as a character.. you know :P There's gotta be more to this than grabbing something and fighting with players until you're dead and do it again.

i like the idea of the island and i was thinking of it just yesterday when respawned. it's not bad at all, but just like anyother camp, a part that there are 5-6 islands and a lot of mountains :-)

i play a lot to find camps and often set up mine, so i can tell that it will be found, so just avoid the cold and swimming pains.

then in the island i'd suggest the assault rifle. in the mountains you can need just the sniper..it depends on what you plan to do

if you are planning to set up camp i would suggest camping inland and fortifying your camp with sandbags barbed wire and tank traps and go far inland to camp as it is easy to get spotted near the road

Skalisky Island is a very popular spot for camps on every server. The heli has a good chance of spawning there so it's normally a hive of activity. A lot of people server jump on Skalisky looking for helicopters and camps, so just because you have the PBX on your server, server hoppers will still get you.

Same for Drakon Island, it's a famous haunt for server hoppers sniping into electro.

If you want a quieter life head inland, if you want a lot of PvP and gunfights by all means try setting up on an island.

Well thanks for all the tips guys, I think I got a good idea of how to go, but I like trying stuff out so I might post updates on how different things have worked for me and we can maybe swap more ideas from there.

Inland or coast, it matters not, hackers can teleport kill you, happened to me yesterday on my character. Lost everything, second time in a row, just lucky I enjoy Starting out fresh.
