combatcomm1 234 Posted June 13, 2012 I have ran into 5 different people on US hardcore server where global chat is GONE. 3 of them traded and chatted with me openly and 2 just chatted with me about where we'd been where we were going and what we'd done. People are now getting lonely believe it or not. The silence is getting to people and causing them to chat and think twice before shooting out of fear. The bandits and griefers will probably still kill you on site. But its easier to tell the survivors now because those are the people who are playing the game socially and are dieing from the silence. This is best thing so far to happen to DAYZ. Awseome job rocket and BIS. Now just implement knoledge and book systems and radios and it will be on a whole new level. :)
Gromit (DayZ) 0 Posted June 13, 2012 Downloading Arma 2: Combined Operations from Steam at the moment, I expect to play DayZ after work. But after reading through about people shooting others on sight, the game being a "slow paced death match"; etc. This post really makes me happy :D I love it when I hear people have to rely on others to live. Be it trading for guns, ammunition, supplies, etc. Makes it sound great! Also, are there any servers for Australians? (:
combatcomm1 234 Posted June 13, 2012 Yes we are establishing a trading post/safe zone on US hardcore 2 if you are interested in joining to help out.

Jorden 63 Posted June 13, 2012 I've actually ran into a fellow player, and we conversed via direct chat. We met up, shared some food, and parted ways. I love it
Finkle 0 Posted June 14, 2012 Wait can't everyone still talk in side chat?
Madrawn 2 Posted June 14, 2012 Wait can't everyone still talk in side chat?If you're running the latest beta patch, no you can't write in global or side channel.Just make sure you join a server running the beta patch to ensure that everybody plays the beta patch, or else the others have an unfair advantage as they still can use the side/global chat. Kthot 1 Posted June 14, 2012 no global chat, only direct communication.Amazing stuff, adds so much feeling of lonelyness to the game, you think twice when you run into someone and try to talk to them through direct chat.In all the encounters with other players i've had since the beta, no blood was spilled :) And it's soooooo good not to be spammed by "friendly in NW airfield??" and other "who's shooting in electro" crap. Other note you dont see when people connect or leave the server, and most importantly, you dont see when people die, no message :)
osiris 44 Posted June 14, 2012 Hey all . I'm new to dayz/arma. How exactly does direct chat work please?
Finkle 0 Posted June 14, 2012 Wow interesting.. Sorry for the noobness but I'm not sure if I have the beta for the core game.. I downloaded the oa beta and installed it, but it was saying you have to use the beta oa exe file and I didn't know how to run it and dayz at the same time.. Is there a thread or something that explains this?
Time Glitch 453 Posted June 14, 2012 I got the Beta patch today and still saw people typing in side chat on a supposedly "beta" server.Any way to make absolutely sure the server is running the latest beta patch?

Publik 404 Posted June 14, 2012 Now if they'd just turn off the death feed/server messages and remove the kill counter on the debug window (or remove the debug window altogether). It is nice not having Side anymore, and it's nice not having "HerpDerp: FRIENDLY IN CHERNO?!?!?" all day long. I wonder if the amount of KoS was because of Side? Statistically, most people aren't bandits, but I wonder if the amount of complaining in Side was one of the things making people paranoid?♥ You're at Green Mtn, right OP? ♥
marsilainen 0 Posted June 14, 2012 Yeah this is pretty cool. I have actually done couple cherno runs and visited all significant places while encountering other players and didn't fire a single shot because of this. I'm sure that i was lucky but when you get them talking, your likelihood of staying alive grows considerably.
resident emil 1 Posted June 14, 2012 In the six weeks I've been playing DayZ I have never encountered the "rampant kill-on-sight problem" so many people are talking about.I have run into more than 10 unknown survivors with no hostility. I have looted supermarkets, scouted hospital, killed zombies together and then parted ways without any incidents. I have been killed four times:* Twice by unseen player* Once by two guys who acted friendly and then simultaneously shot me and my friend. Apparently they synced their action over skype/teamspeak whatever* Once by ZombiesI once shot a bandit unprovoked and have regretted it ever since. He entered the tower in the Elektro powerstation, I was on the roof. My friend spotted him from afar. I shot him when he got up the stairs. Don't know how he got his bandit skin, who he was or anything. I got a bandit skin myself a couple of days later when I defended myself and a friend from an unprovoked ambush (hi Sparky & Zeke :-) This put the whole bandit skin thing in perspective for me. Glad it's gone...EDIT:Remember two other early deaths. Both in my very first dayz playing DayZ:* First time I played DayZ I found a sniper rifle. Can't remeber where but somwhere east of Elektor I think. I was moving towards the lighthouse east of Elektro when a bandit came running on the field between the road and the lighthouse. I shot him with the CZ-550. However I died when I tried to loot him. Possibly he wasn't dead, possibly someone eles shot me.* A couple of days later I was looting the farm just outside Prigorodky when I saw a survivor body just outside the big barn. I slowly approached it and started to loot his gear. All the while I was thinking "Hurry up, this might just be a trap. Come on, just leave the rest...", and then. BAM! I was dead... Finkle 0 Posted June 16, 2012 So I managed to get the beta running (thanks to the person who posted the link to the instructions).. And sorry if this has already been said but when you see people still doing some kind of "global" chat it just means the server isn't up to the beta right? And in that situation you can read their txt but not txt back..?And I haven't been able to get anyone to talk to me on direct yet. How close do you have to be to someone for them to hear? If you're a ways away does it sound faint to them? Just a thought but if anyone wants to meet in game and test it out I'd try to make it worth your while..
