100% Chernarus. It fits the scene of a zombie apocalypse and i kinda relate to it after seeing and loving 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead. Lingor has more of a Dead Island feel to it, and i hate those god damn barrack doors that a man has to spaz around for a minute to fit through!

man.. with all this chernarus love. Im starting to think maybe a custom chernarus private map would be a good choice.

Chenarus but only because I know my way around the map, but I'm sure if I keep playing Lingor I'll get the hang of it.

If we host a chernarus map and control hacking and glitching and duping. Will you guys play there?

When I started playing DayZ, I used a loot map to figure out where to go and stuff.

I won't say it ruined the experience, but it definitely took away some of the fun.

I have only used the in-game map for Lingor, and it's a hundred times more rewarding in terms of when I find rare items.

My favourite experience in learning the map is has definitely been Lingor, but when I think about my favourite over all, I can't help but choose Chernarus for the win.

Lingor Island makes me think of Dead Island.

In any case, I prefer Chernarus.

Lingor is way better once you get used to it. Not only does it have better functionality but it is a more fair map to new players. On chernarus whoever is the first to get to the barracks gets a very unfair advantage. Not to mention lingor gets significantly less hackers and significantly less whiney noobs.

Interesting how its a mix of opinions, yet chernarus is the winning one. How do I make a pole? My friends and I are in the process of building the Chernarus server right now. Its up and running but we have to test it.

Has anyone got an opinion on the Takistan map? I played it for an hour today.. Met another survivor, didnt get killed. I was shocked.. Also had to lol at the working chinook we found at an airfiled with about 4 dead bodies around it.. Hackers must have crashed it into a hanger. Oh then we got sniped but it was funny.. I enjoyed playing the different maps because um they were new and different..

I'ma be non-mainstream. LINGOR ISLAND FOR THE WIN!

On a serious note, i prefer lingor's environmental feel, it's a nice change with the ambient sounds and the whole map layout in general.

I did not like Lingor, in the hour I spent there it just didn't feel right, the map felt cheap and badly thought out. probably doesn't help that I died to some guy while I only had starter gear and a hatchet to then watch him Alt+f4 as I bled out, OK I did try to get to him with my hatchet before I bled out but that's no excuse.

now Takistan is another matter altogether, nice big open fields and it actually feels like the map had time spent on it, zombies do seem to agro from weird distances but I can work with that, best bit of my time in Takistan was seeing another player running over a dune with a gun, calling out "friendly" and actually getting to walk away from the encounter without a bullet as greeting.

To the guy who killed me in Lingor: You sir are an Asshat, go play CoD or BF3

To the guy who didn't in Takistan: Thank you, you have restored "some" of my faith in other players.

Lingor does tend to have less whiney noobs. I agree with that, and it's a nice way to do something different from chernarus, but you can't just wait for everyone to get all the gear they want then say, "Ok let's fight now, cause its fair." In order to survive, you want to have an unfair advantage. Also, lingor gets just as many hackers as chernarus, I even found a Us server that has a hacking admin, with a clan he supported that had hackers too.

I'm also not sure what you mean about more functionality, but don't mislead other players, lingor can be very fun and I do like it, but it has more issues than chernarus does. There are many vehicles, buildings, and spawns all over the map, which causes the server to become unstable rather quickly. As a result, it can and does slow down the server considerably, which increases load times significantly. Also, the map is smaller, and the way the buildings and terrain are situated in lingor, does not allow, any good spots to hide vehicles or tents, which isn't a big problem, because of the many spawns, including military, around the map. What ends up happening is it turns into more of a pvp style map, where you encounter players more often, which can be good or bad depending on who you are.

All in all, I still really do like lingor, and if server restarts are done more often, and it has good admins, then it helps a lingor server out considerably.

So, in response to this thread, when it comes down to it, I can think of dayz without lingor, but I cannot think of dayz without chernarus. It's also why I host it on a private hive, but if you are worried about players on your server, it won't matter which you choose, people will come to play regardless.
