Starting without a gun

I just saw a rocket's patch details that a player can hide from zombies.

This means zombies can be taken care of without firing a single bullet.

Since that's possible, makarov can be taken away from new players.

If you think about it, this can help in many ways.

1)No more makarov rush

There wouldn't be any nothing-to-lose playing. Once you get hands of a weapon(more rare weapons would work well with this system) that means you already played enough where you don't want to die.

2)a bit less newplayer killing

Yes i know there are bandits who kills freshly spawned players, and i know taking makarov away would make this worse. but in cases other than that, other well geared players and groups wouldn't be as paranoia when they first see u unarmed. They would leave u alone since they know you can't do anything about it.

3)more coop.

when you are running away from zeds, unarmed, people will be more likely to help you, or at least doesn't shoot you. More trust can be gain and two unarmed survivor might team up well.(of course there could be a brutal betrayal when there's a gun lying on the floor)

for bandits who love to just kill others, this could add some more fun.

You can hide a gun in your backpack, then team up with someone, and you can just shoot someone in the back. Of course this isn't suggested.

I don't see how this adds incentive to play coop. Instead of having one player who cant defend themselves you now have two who are completely defenseless to a horde of zombies or an armed player.

Guy's you are completely missing the point he wants to disarm players so bean bandits can take your beans it has nothing too do with being unarmed.

Unrealistic.

When a player spawns for the first time it isn't as if this is when he just showed up in Chernarus, he's been there since the infection began, he's a "survivor". And it makes no sense whatsoever that he could have survived to that point, obviously weeks/months since the infection began, without some basic survival tools including a handgun.

Why do so many people make this suggestion as if making things unrealistically difficult makes for a better game? There are many more ways of adding depth to the game besides making the player start out unarmed, hungry, thirsty, lying naked and bleeding on the beach.

If YOU don't want to start with a gun fine, drop it as soon as you spawn in.

It's already hard to defend yourself with a makarov against an ak, and people will less likely to shoot an unarmed person than a guy with a makarov. When you have high enough gear, the biggest fear for me was the makarov guys :)

/Dogsbd, you talked about realism, but for realism i guess this varies on people's perspective. You think gun is a basic need and necessary to survive even for a few weeks, i see the other way. I think it's very possible to survive without a gun. You could have been in a group where other survivor had a gun, or you could have been playing hide and seek and survived for a few weeks. But as i said, people have different perspective on this.

If you see the DayZ trailer and see that scene you can see where this could go. Yes, i know this is just a trailer and doesn't really reflect actual gameplay, but i would really love to see that scene ingame.

I think this is a good suggestion, it would be great if by the time you can kill people you also have something to lose. There should always be a risk.

So people harassing other players on the coast won't be bothered by survivors shooting back.
