aksuduud 64 Posted September 9, 2012 The idea is simple, landmines. You find a landmine, which should be pretty rare, then place it where you want it and when some poor fellow walks over it its off with him. For balancing purposes it could not be one hit kill, but instead say, break your bones and take 5000 blood. The kind of landmine i had in mind would not be a claymore but more like a russian non-directional mine. And as for realism, the Chernarussian government might have not signed the Ottawa treaty, might have them as available as they have american assault rifles and might have trained random civilians with backpacks to arm the mines.

Sam.B 18 Posted September 9, 2012 The mines should be an instant kill. If you step on a mine i'm pretty sure you are not gonna walk away unscathed.
aksuduud 64 Posted September 9, 2012 Some landmines "only" destroy your foot, while others shred you to pieces with hundreds of steel balls, the damage should be a balancing decision.
Doctor_sloth 119 Posted September 9, 2012 The mines should be an instant kill. If you step on a mine i'm pretty sure you are not gonna walk away unscathed. It depends honestly. Most mines are meant to maim and terrify, not necessarily to kill. They are mostly used to deny an area, or set off an ambush in what is called "asymmetrical warfare" Of course you wouldn't be "unscathed" but say you step on a M14 or Type 72 "toe-popper" mine, the results in game could be similar to a bear trap with higher blood loss. Plus in a game where morphine mends broken bones, surviving a mine blast doesn't seem all that unreasonable does it?Overall good idea OP, though I could see problems similar to people laying CAT wire in front of buildings just to be dicks. Also as someone else said, there needs to be a way to detect them, such as discolored patches of dirt, dead patches of grass, or slight lumps where they've been placed. Of course if they're surface-laid, then you really only have yourself to blame for not seeing it.
silkyskills 59 Posted September 9, 2012 The server will end up a fucking mine field because of hackers, hell no
aksuduud 64 Posted September 10, 2012 This could be implemented when duping is fixed or even in the standalone, if we have a working anti cheat system then.
MLI 6 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Good suggestion for a standalone, but not for the current version. Metal detectors / batteries would also need to be spawned if metallic mines are used. In case of minimum metal mines or even non-metallic mines, the blast will be the only indicator. Edited September 10, 2012 by MLI
kebman 213 Posted September 10, 2012 You mean, Anti Personnel Mines? Or do you mean Anti Tank Mines? IED's would sure be cool to help combat hoarding! ;)
aksuduud 64 Posted September 10, 2012 IEDs with tripwires and such might actually make even more sense. And i mean anti-personnel mines.
timboski 618 Posted September 11, 2012 Mines would be great but could have the potential to be misused (even outwith hacking). If they were disarmable and maybe even auto disabled after a period of time I could see them being a great addition. Sniper hill would become extremely dangerous...for the snipers
