Sula 1205 Posted September 7, 2012 I sit in front of my computer struggling to understand what I am meant to do. I watch video after video and they always vary from my system. There must be an easier way.People say "download the update" but they don't say you will need zip software to unzip it. They say, "just run it and it will install." Turns out that actually means you need to click on the beta patch exe file. How am I meant to know these things?I swear, I been trying to update dayz for over three hours - just to work out what it is I meant to do. I play via dayzcommander and steam except steam often doesn't work.Right now, since the new update I can't access servers unless I use dayzcommander but it doesn't list the servers I want to get to - so I need to install it manually or at least to get steam to update dayz. Anyone know how to get steam to do that?Does anyone else find it confusing, upsetting, and worrying every time there's an update? I thought all I had to do was put the unzipped files in my @dayz folder but now the unzipped programme keeps asking me where to unzip stuff and won't give me access to that server. I can't be the only one with all these issues whenever I have to update, can I?I don't have anyone to ask for help apart from one of the mods that sometimes I chat to but he's not interested in helping me, just laughing at me. So I'm not asking him for help again. <_<

mxlionheart 31 Posted September 7, 2012 If you have updated through DayZCommander (Yellow arrow in the top right) and want to play through steam, go into the steamapps folder > common > OpA > Expansion > Beta - from there you copy the arma2oa.exe into the main OpA folder and you should be ok to run through steam.
JamesButlin 108 Posted September 7, 2012 I haven't had any DayZ Commander problems like this.. Install and update everything with DayZ Commander then just boot up DayZ seperately (there's plenty of tuts out there for this)? If it's not showing all the servers, be patient and wait for it to update the server list, then make sure you don't have any filters on? ☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I'm not sure how this will work when using commander but....You can manually copy the new version over the old, simple copy paste.Find the folder where the DayZ files are, if steam version, the path should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\addons, delete old files, and paste new in same folder. If you use Six Launcher, you can do this manual patch AFTER verification. Sula 1205 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Heskey, yes, of course.Lionheart. Thanks for trying to help. Biohaze, no idea what that means but thanks fro trying! It kind of assumes I have the new updated file and just need to put it some place, which isn't the case. *sighs miserabley* I appreciate you trying to help me, though. Thank you. Edited September 7, 2012 by Sula
SpecManX 0 Posted September 7, 2012 i personaly havent had that problem myself. i use the play with Six server/mod that you download when you click on download DayZ Button on the homepage. i also have Arma 2 combined ops on Steam and i dont have much problems using them togeather besides the occasional never ending loading bar. but i will try to look into it to help you. boxman80 964 Posted September 7, 2012 Sorry to go off topic but Emile Heskey plays Day Z? Makes sense, he seemed to spend most of his matches wandering around the football pitch like a dazed zombie....On topic. Agreed, the patches are a time of mixed apprehension for me too. Last night I actually didnt choose to update, I just played on the previous patch as our server hadnt rolled out the update yet until it had been cleared by vilayer. I kind of like this system though and it's saved me a lot of heart ache a couple of times. On the flip side though, these are necessary evils and what comes with "alpha" testing, we are the sacrificial lambs today, tomorrow we are the masters of Day Z ;)
Sula 1205 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Oh Fraggle, thanks but he was only teasing me. I downloaded the files manually using winrar and am trying to following - and adapt - a video, so hopefully, I'll get it right. It's just that it isn't letting point to the folder I want it to unzip in. Got to work that out first. :thumbsup:To those who have misread what I wrote, thanks for the dayzcommander advice but I want to be able to run the game via steam and without dayzcommander and I am running it properely, without filters and being patient! Deetwo 69 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I haven't updated my dayz version or the beta build so I can't really help you here (probably will dread it once I need to update), but I do understand your frustration with new update releases. It's like the closing time for poll workers; everyone's rushing to get it done so they can get it over with but no one really knows how to do it properly so they end up screwing everything up.@ the mod laughing at your face: LMAO Edited September 7, 2012 by Deetwo
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted September 7, 2012 Sula: unzip to different location, and manually move files. Why must you unzip to this one particular location? It's difficult to get an idea of EXACTLY your problem from your posts.... sorry.
Sula 1205 Posted September 7, 2012 Thanks Biohaze. I tried to get the latest beta patch and the latest dayz patch. I unzipped dayz patch file into my @dayz folder, which is where it's meant to go, as I understand it, and I unzipped the lastest beta patch to my beta subfolder. But I'm still getting an old arma version (the first one that started with 96.....) when I run arma CO. Stupid computers and horrible manual things. :( Why I can't I just press a button and everything updates?
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Is there anyway to try to patch once commander is running? You may be able to "trick" it into launching the patches you want.I don't use commander but, it's possible that if you do the manual patch after loading commander, you might be able to then just launch the game from commander, forcing it to run the patches you want. Bludy 324 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) did you paste the beta file (after run it, it looks like arma2 launcher icon) from the expansion beta folder to the main arma2 folder? you can verify if it changed beta version from properties, details..you weren't playing while in like 1.7.1.5 we got 5 beta in two days? :-))))to update dayz it's sufficient to paste the dayz files you downloaded in the @dayz addons folder..simple as written here! p.s. via torrent they aren't zipped! Plaguetongue 47 Posted September 7, 2012 DL commander and click update? easy, and if it dosent work just DL the patch and install it manually, eez!
Angel Knight 427 Posted September 7, 2012 Temporary solution: launch the game through DayZ Commander on any server, then leave that server and go to the one you actually want through the in game lobby.

hoggy2121 2 Posted September 7, 2012 In DayzCommander there is an option in the settings to launch with steam. Have you tried to update to the latest patch through DC and then ticking the 'Launch with Steam' check box? Not sure if that will help
iboren01@yahoo.com 10 Posted September 7, 2012 I had the same problems when using any of the updaters to play DayZ. So I went the manual route. Since you have a steam version it's actually fairly easy to install. Since you've had so many problems with the updaters I would delete all the DayZ files and start from scratch. I'll go through the steps and see if it works for ya.(I'm doing this all from memory and can update tonight when I get home from work if I missed any steps)1) download the latest beta patch and DayZ release. I would suggest using the torrent file if you're comfortable with that.2) Extract and run the beta patch, once the window comes up with patch installed succesfully go into your steamapps folder and navigate to the beta folder thats under Arma2co folder. In that folder is a 2nd Arma2oa.exe. Copy that file and go back to the main arm2ao folder, rename the arma2oa.exe in that to something like arma2oa-backup.exe. then paste the arma2oa.exe from the beta folder into that main folder.3) Now go to the folder that you downloaded the DayZ files to, highlight all the files and copy. Go back to the steamapp/arma2oa folder and navigate to @dayz/addons folder and paste all the dayz files there. Now that that's all done fire up steam, I suggest right clicking on steam and Run as Admin. Once Steam loads fire up your arma2oa and run combined ops. Once arma2 loads up it should say in the lower right screen what beta version you're currently on. you should also be able to access the steam overlay with this method.Just a note though that with this method anytime you update the beta version you'll have to recopy that arma2oa.exe back into the main arma2oa folder otherwise it will run the old version each time, which is I'm guessing what's happening to you right now with the launchers is that they're not pointing to the new arma2oa.exe.Good luck and if it doesn't work send me a PM here on the forums and I can try and help you over skype or mumble at some point. Sula 1205 Posted September 7, 2012 This is crazy. Today, I spent hours trying to update dayz and the beta patch. And finally seem to have done it. I then spent hours trying to find a server that had also been updated - I think I had 3 on my list. So I have now downgraded via dayzcommander and reinstalled the earlier versions for a few days until the servers are up to date. Oof! What a fuss! :) Thanks again for your help, everyone.
iboren01@yahoo.com 10 Posted September 7, 2012 Oh as a side note, the beta patch is backwards compatable but the dayz versions are not. So it doesn't hurt to keep the beta patch updated at all times.
