Ghillie + backpack

Recommended Posts

I think I am not the only one who finds highly unrealistic that ghillie suit makes your backpack dissapear even if you have it.

What if you could NOT wear ghillie with backpack bigger then lets say 12 slot?

Think about it, you get ghillie to be less visible, but there should be a trade off and that would be less carrying space for you.

Some hardcore people might even say that you should be able to wear only 6slot czech pouch, but I am more forgiving and would allow atleast 8 slots and maybe 12 slots, but no more! :-).

The other way around would be that when wearing ghillie, backpack would be shown normally as when you have starting skin.

As it is now, the ghillie is too unrealistic since it hides every backpack even gigantic Coyote backpack, Alice or Czech backpack, which kinda seems against the spirit of this game/mod.

I understand that 99% of bushwookies will disagree, but that's expectable since it would make their camping hours less enjoyable.

the ghillie suite in this game enjoyable only because it has only one drawback implemented, if it had ALL of its drawback implemented, i highly doubt that someone would use it, unless its an autumn in the game.

I kinda think its more realistic if you can not have huge backpack with ghillie.

Or yes take it,but it should show on your body since you can't magically hide such big pack. You would look like camel :) .

Also when you are forced to make hard choices, it makes game more interesting. As it is now, having ghillie has zero negative consequences except maybe that some people tend to shoot ghillies on sight more, but thayou get shot at no matter what you wear in most cases.

Ghillie suits should be specialised piece of gear, not something you wear all the time without any penalty.

Well that's what I think ofc, but I strongly feel that in game that strives for realism, Ghillies should be implemented more realisticly then being the best camo in game without any negatives.

well ghillie makes you more visible in urban environment, and, sadly, its the only drawback that made in the game .

If you wear a ghillie suit and a backpack, you should have a "ghillied" hunch.

and how often you see mass produced ghillies that can cover a back pack? a custom one can do that`s, but since there is no crafting, i can assume that we only have mass produced ghillies in game.

in real ghillie suits you can just put the camo over your backpack aswell as your body so useless suggestion if you ask me

you cant complain about realism when you can roll with a backpack on like a coyote, alice, or alice, infact its difficult to roll with webbing on. The visual of the backpack should be displayed when wearing a ghillie but only allowing small backpacks is realistic, but not fun! which what games are meant to be no matter how realistic they want to be.

Well Rocket said that he does not aim for DayZ to be super fun, but rather gritty, hard and realistic experience, that is why I have suggested what I did regarding backpacks + ghillie.

But yea, everyone has right to have opinion, so I don't expect everyone to agree with me :)

I think I like his idea as it doesn't only make the game a bit realistic but it might make snipers scarce. Think about it, if I would trade my carrying abilities for a camouflage then I wouldn't do it as it will make gathering supplies harder and if you would go sniping, put your ghille suit in your pocket, drop your backpack then equip the ghillie then go sniping people with the limited amount of ammo you have in your pockets. Once you're satisfied with your sniping (or if you just want to resupply with ammo), equip your civilian clothing then pick up your backpack.

Or you could go for a smaller backpack. one that has 8-12 slots like the OP posted.

Why should there be a tradeoff?

There is nothing about wearing a ghillie suit that keeps you from carrying a pack. In most cases, an appropriately camo'ed pack.

I'm all for fixing the models in standalone (I honestly don't think they're going to go through the effort to make a backpack for snipers just for the mod), but there is nothing whatsoever about "people in ghillies having smaller packs" that is realistic.

If people could drop their packs without losing them it would be a non-issue anyways, since anyone actually using the ghillie to hide would not want one poking up, ghillied or not.

As an aside, people who have no experience using any of this equipment need to stop blathering random crap about what is and is not "realistic", when their idea of "realistic" simply means "whatever forces other people to play only in ways that I approve of".

If you want a realistic ghillie suit drawback, make it increased water consumption during the day when it's sunny. Though to be honest, you shouldn't be catching cold with one on either... that's just bloody ridiculous, if you've ever worn one.

Seems that you did not understand me at all (no wonder after reading your post). What I was commenting on is the current situation with ghillies that magically hide your backpack. Are you trying to tell me that it is even vaquely realistic??

So instead of spending time on fixing that, it would be faster for devs to allow ghillie only with 6,8 or maybe 12 slot backpacks to balance it somehow before standalone comes and fixes this properly.

Protip: next time try to express yourself in more of a civil manner, you failed miserably this time.

I was thinking about this very thing earlier.

I was thinking of disabling backpacks completely for ghillie but having the possibility to have a small/medium pack.

It would actually be a nice drawback, enough to bring it in line with the other players.

Well it would add a more realistic aspect to the game but would be frowned upon by fans of the ghillie suit.

Yea many good things in real life have some drawback.

You like sport cars? Then you have to live with small trunk and less/no space at back seats.

You want to conceal yourself under the tree?

Why not,but dont expect to be carrying huge backpack filled with tons of stuff.

They should also add stamina to disallow sprinting for hours and some kind of encumbrance system,so if you carry AS50 and M240 at the same time, you can not run like a rabbit.

But no, some people like it CODish ie easy way....but lets hope that Rocket will not yield to this kind of people.

Well it would add a more realistic aspect to the game but would be frowned upon by fans of the ghillie suit.

You say it like it's a bad thing :-)

How 'bout the middle ground? No backpack is shown when carrying the small ones, like the vest pouch and the small coyote but everything above that can be seen and is worn on the outside of the ghillie.

Yea that would be also viable option far better that having ghillie and invisible backpack.

Would totally be okay with this.

Doesnt stop wookies from running around with Alice/Coyote Backpacks but the drawback is still there. Making it more advantageous to stay crouched, back to a bush than prone.

This game mod is about realism, correct me if I am wrong.

In real life, when you're wearing a ghillie suit you can carry a sidearm, a mag or two and a radio.

That's it. No bottles no steaks no backpacks, nothing. I know this because I own a ghillie suit.

I think the best option would be a ghillie as an equippable item (four slots are ok - I have a backpack that's the size of the czech backpack and it takes half the main storage area).

And when you equip it, you drop *everything* except your sidearm and two magazines (primary or secondary -> your choice)

That will force players with ghillie suits to have a base of operations, a safe house to store their stuff when they want to go hunting, same as they would in reality.

I'm pro the realistic stance, but that's pretty ridiculous. Considering a ghillie suit does nothing to prevent zombie aggro, and sidearms aren't exactly the best choice for pvp, it renders the ghillie suit's strongest appeal (concealment from players in pvp) slightly void. (And is useless against zombies, where sidearms are most useful)

It would still be useful for remaining undetected when spotting, or running around the edge of a town, but on entry you stick out like a sore thumb again, only this time with only a pistol or PDW for protection.

I dont think you understood my post.

When wearing a ghillie suit you can't carry (as in, on your body, not with your hands) anything more than the things I mentioned. You can only carry those if you have the right harness/belt/whatever.

Obviously you can carry a primary in your hands or in your back if you have a sling.

I'm just saying -> ghillie = very very low capacity for carrying things.

Also, the reason that you stick out like a sore thumb is because the camouflage the ghillie suit provides is for areas with similar vegetation and colours.

If a guy with a ghillie is standing still it's almost impossible to spot him unless he picked a bad place to hide.

It would make the ghillie suit useless they dissapear for a reason "bush wookies" arent that much of a problem if you are alert and careful, thats the problem with most Day Z players they never played ofp or arma 1+2 and never learned the art of spending hours crawling trying to be as stealthy as possible its not hard to predict where "bush wookies" will be or where their sight lines will cover use this to counter them with an axe to the back of the head

If it was allowed only to use smaller backpacks with ghillie,it would not make them usefull, but bushwookies would need to make more carefull preparations before nesting under the tree for hours.

Choices, it makes game more interesting...
