Some players can chat with me thru the RCon tool...

Recommended Posts

So this user and a few others are able to chat with me thru the Rcon Tools. I know how my messages get to the server I send them thru the send message bar. But how are they sending messages back to me?

LOL I know I can send Admin messages to the server and they can see them but the player HolyNEvil could send messages back to me thru direct chat. My friend Stu was on at the time and he was typing in direct chat and I could not see them. I am the admin too btw lol

RCON tools display all chat. He's not actually talking to you, he's talking to you no one and you're hearing (or seeing it rather) it, so the conversation can be two-way.

It seems to me that the RCon tool is only picking up certain peoples messages and displaying them. I made mass confusion in this thread. Stu another player was sending me messages at the same time this guy was but I was only seeing HolyNEvils messages. Stu was in direct chat and sending messages too that were not showing up. Do I have something set wrong ? Is Stu not putting a switch in there that he should?:

The Rcon tool shows all messages sent, you are sending out Global admin messages, they are just talking in Direct chat and you can see that.

If you are using DaRT there is an option to not show messages, check your settings :)

DaRT is pretty good, has logging functions and creates a player database so you can keep a record of all players who access your server.

Obviously be careful who you let see this data :)

direct chat is only "seen" by the server/console if there is another player in range to see the other players direct chat, if Stu was not in range of anyone then thats why you couldnt see his chat.
