Batteries for electronic devices

Recommended Posts

Considering you have to fuel up vehicles, you should also have to 'fuel up' electronic devices with batteries you will find in supermarkets.

Batteries could be used for things such as night vision scopes/binoculars, thermal optics and whatever else batteries could be used for.

Batteries could even be used for walkie talkies with channels to communicate with each other from a distance.

As well as batteries, power outlets could be added to buildings so you can charge your electronic devices or even rechargeable batteries.

I know i would like this in DayZ because it would add to the realism of the game.

Please tell me down below if you think this would be a good or bad add on to DayZ and why. Also, what do you think batteries will be used for? :)

You should read the Q&A's Rocket has done. This is something that has already been acknowledged by Rocket.

It wouldn't be logical to recharge or charge stuff in shops, because there is no electricity in the city. It's full of zombies... I don't think anyone is trying to make it light for them :) but the battery idea is great, they should last a while though.

It has been suggested a umber of times, but that just goes to confirm it's a good idea. I totally agree that batteries should be included in the game for things such as radios, torches, night vision goggles and even weapon attachments. I dont think recharging should be an option though as the power grid is down.

On second thoughts though, if you could get a generator working at a "safe house" that you and your group had managed to secure and barricade/defend, recharging could be an option and it would cerainly add a nice objective to the game.

Accidentally posted this in the competition thread, sorry moderators.

All electric gadgets like torches, NVG's, GPS etc running on batteries would force players to think about how and when to use them and add another layer of realism

Yea it's a good suggestion but it's been made a lot before matey.

The first time I played I was surprised that the torch didn't need batteries TBH.

I think albeit it being realistic it's not only not necessary, but actually implementing it and balancing it out will take much more work than expected.

You are right, it would take a bit of work, but i'm sure a battery meter indicator on each electrical item could be added easily enough, it would also be quite simple to work out power usage too and lets be honest, if there really was a zombie apocalypse, after food, water and ammo batteries would be a key commodity in the wastelands economy of necessity.

Plus, despite this being a mod in alpha stage it is by far the best and most realistic zombie game ever concieved - i'm sure the dev team will want to improve even further on the feeling of reality they have crafted so well. Therefore it could be considered necessary.

Instead of having "recharge terminals" how about add this item into the standalone game, I would suggest it being as rare as antibiotics

http://www.shop.solar-wind.co.uk/acatalog/portable_solar_pv_panels_folding.html

With talk of there being gensets in the standalone, then this could also mean the ability to recharging batteries.

On a side note:

I don't know how practical it would be, however adding renewable energy souces (solar PV and wind turbines) into the standalone would also make sense. They have Pro's over gensets being silent (survivors & infected cant hear them) and never needing fuel. But they come with con's too, survivors being able to see them and limited power use e.g. 1x solar panel can power lights or recharge something, 2x panel's can power lights and charge something.

I do have quiet a lot of knownledge in the remote power industry using solar and wind turbines, so can go into more detail. I'll just wait to see how much flack this gets first :)

good idea dude, hadn't thought of solar power etc
