How to make a Safehouse... Safe

Recommended Posts

Possible way to make a safehouse... safe:

1. "Scrap metal" + "toolbox" = Option to make steel door (can only be opened by the person who made it) *Can be opened with "Crowbar" Timer when attempting to open door with crowbar so it take 1 to 5 mins (random) to open. 1 in 5 chance of "FAILED to open door try again" message after timer finishes

2. "Key pad lock" = allows door maker to fit lock with 4 figured code so he can pass code to friends and they can open.

3. "Alarm" + "car battery" = this can be fitted to door so that if someone tries to crowbar it instantly sets off a loud alarm that attracts loads of zeds. Basically one man on his own would not have time to crowbar the door and fight off the zeds but a squad might be able to get in.

* You would not know if there was an Alarm fitted so you would think twice before even trying to crowbar the door if on your own.

Sounds far to easy mode to me. We'd see "safe houses" all over if this was the case. Every house, shack, shed, or outdoor crapper in every town or city would be fit with such stuff. Use your tent, store big but not crucial items in it and log off with your most juicy weapons and items on your character instead. That being said, I wouldn't mind it being just a tad bit easier to actually store stuff somewhat safer than now, but that's something for another discussion.

Because you can't enter a building through the windows in Dayz atm ;P

TBH this might b more of an idea for the standalone as there will be more enterable buildings. However I just feel this would add another play option to the game and another reason to go scavenging & working as a team.

i would go down to a code with 3 Numbers so there a realistic chance to figure it out.

Lol. Yes. Because the average individual would know how to install a coded access system. Fucking stupid idea.

What like the average individual knows how to repair a huey? Or do a full engine transplant on a car, in the middle of nowhere, with no tools?

With regards to the OP idea:

Its a nice idea, but it would just be another tool in the griefer's armoury, lock and alarm every single fucking door in the game.

Tiercel has covered that point... cheers :)

As for "Every door" in the game getting locked.... When the player who created the door dies then the door, alarm & LOOT! all vanish (even any loot stored by friends) This is because when you start again you would simply be a new player who never had the safehouse. I think this should also happen to Tents and all contents.

This isnt Garry's Mod Roleplay.

If you wana hide your shit, you do it where no one will find it. Because once someone finds your "safe house" they'll tell their friends, or just keep coming back until they break into it. Or break in when you're offline or not around, you can't just sit there all day trying to protect it.

Exactly... but why not add a safehouse option simply because it can be found? Tents can be found, so get rid of them? Just think how many villages and towns there are so how many possible safehouse locations there could be. Might be eaiser to keep hidden longer than you think. Also dont forget the safehouse is there only as long as your alive.

I see where you're coming from, if there was a zombie appocalypse I'd be hiding in a house. But in DayZ you do not sit around all day, you scavange around and always keep on the move.

Also, tents are used as storage, not protection. You keep them hidden, not in the middle of a town.

How about landmines and signs to warn about them? If you think there are landmines in the are you will think twice about entering, for balance purposes they wouldnt be instant kill and they would not be invisible or have some kind of "IFF" system.
