Advice for the NW Airfield?

So I can usually do pretty well for myself, having plenty of food, water, weapons, etc.

But I have read on the forums that people can get military loot fairly easily by paying a visit to the NW Airfield, so I decided to go have a look myself, as the best weapon I have ever had was an AKM and I wanted to see if I can do better.

I spawn on the beach due to one of those bugs that kill you and send you to the debug wilderness. I run through Elektro, find a pack, some guns and enough food and drink to last me until Stary. After arriving and gearing up a little more at Stary, I finally arrived at the Airfield.

I check the hangars, all empty. I check the firestation and find a G17 with 4 mags. I check the tower, empty. I check the nearby guardhouses for ghillie suits, empty. I check some buildings labeled "Military Dorm" on the wiki, as I thought these were the barracks often mentioned to contain high quality military loot, and only found some 30rnd STANAGs.

The best weapon I found around there was an M4A1 with about 5 mags for it, but those came from a tent that I had found a bit North of the Airfield.

So I'm wondering, is this how a typical visit to the Airfield is, or am I missing something? I'm not even sure if I really checked the barracks or had passed them up while checking all the wrong buildings.

Nope that's not a typical visit. It sounds like the server needs a restart. Try again later or on a different server.

Well you got bad luck looting the nw airfrield. I alsways find something in the hanger, can be smoke/hand grenades to weapons and such. I don't find my ghili-suit in nw airfield, but i find those weapon. But if you would like to have a FN-FAL or anything you should look for heli crashes. That's what i do to get a M107 or as50 :D But in nw airfield i mostly get my m16 and those, mabye a dmr and that. You had some bad luck when you went there, could be looted before you went there :D

A friend and I tend to ignore it because it's high-risk and sometimes unlucky / not worth it. Best bet is to look for crashed heli's around the area and visit Stary.

Though, there have been some good there, of course. Just luck I guess!

Naw mate its all luck, I've never had anything decent from the airfield. Heli Crashes are your best bet ;)

Alright, I'll find another server and make one more pass through before I leave, and keep an eye out for those helis.

Its down to spawn luck basically. Best way to do it alone is to approach from the south west, enter the barracks, then move to the barn/big shed, then the small houses, then youll end up next to the fire station, then take a short right across the runway to the coms tower, then if you want to check the other barracks just go across the runway do it prone, the grass on the runway is great, no visablilty or sound. Then if you still have room to loot, just run into each hangar regardless of zombies coming. This takes about 15 minutes on a quiet server, on a populated server it'll take about an hour, high chance bandits are snooping the airfield.

After studying a map a little more, it turns out I missed both barracks, so I'll definitely be checking those now that I know where they are. :)

Unless your going to farm the barracks your wasting your time. As has been previously said go after heli crash sites less risk than the airfield, theres more spots to loot and they spawn better weapons.

Found a M4A1 CCO SD in the last room in the barracks last night. Only thing else was a M1014 shotgun. That's all.

It's about luck and who was there before you.

Remember there are 2 barracks, a firestation, and air tower that have good chance of loot. But, everything besides the southern-most barrack is extremely risky.

Barracks are not so risky, turn 3rdp on and go prone around it looking into the windows. Be careful with the washroom, if a camper is present in the barracks, he will be there (90%).

It's all about luck and timing. For instance, my most recent run though I got an M16A2 M203 (grenade attachment), G17, M9 SD, and a STANAG ammo box with all the silenced ammo I could even use. Compare this to my very first venture there where all I got was an AKM, some generic loot, and a bullet to the head.

Ive found a nice variety of weapons up there, from a PDW, M4A3 CCO, M16, AKM, 5.56mm ammo crate, G17... All sorts. Just depends on the loot drop!

Yeah every time ive gone to the NW airfield there has always been at leasta mix of 3 differnt rifles and about 1 pistol

(2 rilfes normally in the "dorms" ranges dependong on luck, but its normally been DMR's AK's or M4/M16 every time ive gone, with maybe a chance of a M9 or G17)

The hangers i pretty much always find at least one AK in, if no weapons then i can be sure that its a decent backpack, for me every time ive gone there, if there isnt an AK or ammo in the hangers then it has been a coyte backpack.

As for the fire station, MP5/ammo is real common for me in there, but i never pick it up as i dont like the MP5.

and the final room, the air traffic controll room, i have found a map, knife, and food in there, not too much in all honesty, maybe the odd grenade.

There is a guard house to the bottom of the airfield, and i once found a ghilli suit there, so maybe worth checkign out, but i dont bother all to much with that.

I don't bother with the NW airfield - as of the last update (and the many, many duplication glitches) you can find pretty much everything in tents around the borders, albeit going to the NW airfield does get the old adrenaline pumping.

If you want to find gear you are better off looking for camps or running around the edge of Elek / Chern on a higher pop server looking for dead bodies. AS50's everywhere...

Had decent luck with the barracks, a few machine guns, M107, SVD but not much point in going up there in hopes of gear lately.

There are 2 sets of barracks, both usually yield a decent weapon and some extra AK and G17 ammo for me. Then on to Stary to see what's in the military tents. You'll find a lot of heli crashes in the fields between Stary and the airfield too. Good luck.

all good gear can be found on south if you look north of elektro/cherno for sniper campers. You can find heli crash site near berezino which is very safe compared to those near stary and it is much faster to go on east side than on west side of map. I was 3 times at NW AF and 3rd time i didnt even look for gear becouse i looted 2 heli on my way there. Last two weeks i dont even go north. Just roaming around south, killing bandits and helping others and going for hero skin.

Personally if you had done some research there is honestly not much of a point of going north if you expect to die because of the fact that the percentages of getting gear from military spots are the same, why not do the smart thing and go into balota yes there are a few more military spots at the northern airfields but it's not really worth it until your decently geared and looking for something fun to do, no point getting halfway and getting shot. My opinion

The loot drop rates aren't the same, not even close. Also, there are probably four or five times the amount of loot spawn points at the airfield. You can find some really good gear in Balota as a fresh spawn, an AKM or what have you, but at the airfield there's an M24 at the very least waiting for me in the barracks and any players you meet up there are likely to have some decent gear for you too.
