Animals, Survival and Staying Alive.

Recommended Posts

I think we need some more Animals in the game, something for the players to interact with while playing the game and trying to avoid that most dangerous of animals, the Human.

Horses : Players could ride them ? a mount, or vehicle that you cant save, you can ride it where ever you want, but when you get off, it would wander back into an open field, or back to its original open field, when killed it should re-spawn kinda quick.

Bat's and Birds : At the moment we have that Ambient noise, like a Pigeon taking flight / flee and it scares the crap out of you the first few times until you realize its only Ambient, but what if we had these little flocks of crows, and when a player gets close they make a hell of a noise as they take flight, flying around above the player for a few minutes making noise until the player moves away, these flocks should spawn in open fields near bush's and single tree's and in the middle of forests.

With the bats it would be in buildings, barns, if a player walks into a building or barn with bats they would freak out the same as the crows, giving notice to any players around that a human is nearby.

Wolves : Should be easy with the dog patch coming, put wolves in the forests, they should be silent, kreeping and stalking their human pray, until their less than 10 meters away then they should sprint at the player snarling, howling and biting, at night or during the day this would scare the utter crap out of players who don't see it coming.

Bears : Wolves but big and fat, with the bear they should get within about 20 meters and then rear on their hind legs and roar, again will scare the crap out of players that dont see it coming, as in real life the player then has a choice, try and run away from a bear thats a faster runner, or try and scare the bear off with a gun shot in the air, or try and kill the bear with a high powered rifle shot to the head.

they should be hard to kill with body shots making running or scaring them off a better tactical choice.

Chickens : I think the player should be able to pick them up, they should then NOT walk through walls, like fencing , sandbags or tant traps, a player could then build a basic chicken pen to house some chickens, if more than one chicken is in the pen then they should have a chance to spawn another chicken or lay an egg.

Like the dogs, a kept animal would require feeding, the player could collect seed from the fields. or shops.

Cooking : We can make a fire cool, we can cook meat, cool, why cant we heat up beans, or pasta, or how about a nice fried egg from those chickens hes been keeping.

I like some of the additions.

No all, like the chicken.

Raising them?

I'd be okay finding a bucket of chicken (that's the actual appellation) but not so much in pens. A chicken can survive little more than a few days in confinement without care. For eggs, how about a 20% chance of finding one on a chicken after you gut it?

Personally, I'd like a revamp of the current hunting and cooking systems.

When was the last time you went hunting for wabbits?

Would be nice if the animals like boar and rabbit did not let players get within say 4 or 5 hundred meters without running away from them, at the moment it kinda sucks you just walk upto a wild animal and plug it in the head with your pistol.

Cows I can understand cos their tame....

The birds/bats is an excellent idea. If you creep about you shouldn't spook them but run full pelt into a bank of trees and a flock of birds should take flight, alerting other players/zeds to your presence. The woods are too much of a safe haven just now. Injured/noisy/cooking players should attract more unwanted predatory animal attention too.

Rocket was interested in the idea of the horse, he himself cut off the interviewer and said that riding horses would be cool. This makes it quite possible in the final game.

YES! Forests need to be more dangerous and not a safe haven for clans/tents/vehicles/snipers.

Bears and wolves would be great to hunt down all the enter their domain. Different kinds of wolves would be nice too, some species specific to the mountains, others to low lying planes. There should also be different types of bears such as black, brown, and grizzly along with adult/young bears/wolves.

Being able to shoot birds in general would be nice too and able to gut them for 1 meat or something. Riding horses, along with killing them for food would be cool too. There needs to be more modes of transportation IMO because i just hate walking everywhere. Maybe not neccessarily more cars, but bikes, or just something simpler like the horse would be perfect.

To expand on the horse though, maybe needing to find a saddle that only spawns in barns in order to ride it, and maybe rope to tie the horse to something or else it will run away?

Stray cats maybe? FERAL dogs? Hmmm, what other animals could we add... The bats i'm indifferent to as they'd just be for appearances, flying around and eating bugs.

Adding fish into the game would be cool, chuck a grenade in the water, kill a school of fish, wade into the water to go and harvest the fish (require a fileting knife?)

I like all of your ideas. A few corrections.

Bears tend to be skittish in the face of dominance posturing, except in the case of grizzlies or polar bears. In the United States we're used to bear attacks as a thing, but this is probably not the case in a Russian republic. In other words, if you run into a bear in the woods in Chernarus, it's more likely to turn and run from you than it is to pick a fight with you.

So some changes to bear performance I would suggest:

  1. If a bear hears you, it should avoid you. So making more noise in the woods makes you less likely to run into bears.
  2. If a bear is eating or near a bear cub, it should roar and bluff charge but not actually try to kill you unless you stay in its aggro radius for too long.
  3. If you face the bear and back away, it shouldn't charge unless you've completely aggroed it.
  4. If you hurt the bear, it should flee immediately. Most bears are timid and most confrontations are just attempts to scare you off.
  5. You should NEVER be able to outrun a bear over long distances. This would make such confrontations incredibly tense. Since bears don't usually attack, you shouldn't have to outrun them. But in the rare situation where it is unavoidable, you should be in for a fight.
  6. One more thing, it'd be cool if hunting attracted any bears nearby. They have been known to steal particularly large kills from other predators.
