Yeah, you may as well just prevent any Australian hosts from putting up DayZ servers as they're all unstable because our internet speeds are terrible. I hate my country.

Agree with OP.

The Australian/NZ servers are basically unplayable. Constant lag, red chain's and restarts.

Was playing on an EU and US server recently and even with 200+ ping it is so much more enjoyable.

Someone fix the damn Aussie servers please!

I haven't played on any OS servers that were anywhere near capacity. I've been playing on ANZ9 the last couple of nights, and as they've been updating the Arma 2 Beta Patch on a very regular basis, this has kept player numbers down (previously this server was near max capacity). Whith only 20 or so players, the server is very smooth, no dramas at all. I have noticed ANZ 1-4 have been better since they reduced the max player limit from 50 to 40. Maybe they need to drop that a bit lower for more constant stability?

Yeah I noticed the drop in max players helped the issues a little as well. Maybe they were just being particularly bad last night.

It only really occurred to me how bad they are after venturing into the OS servers. I had previously put the issues down to the alpha bugs.

Im going to look into installing the beta patch tonight.

Do you know what GMT time ANZ9 is Frosty?

Aussie servers have been crap, that's why we rent a US one to play on.

Perhaps it has something to do with the distance from the HIVE or the fact that internet in Australia is shit?

Im in Aus and i get good internet anyways we are upgrading soonish from ADSL to NBN but the thing is that i havent even played the game at all been trying for 4 days now uninstalled 3 times and did everything again still nothing working HELP someone!!!!!! :@:@:@

Its not that internet in australia is shit. its because you can rent a server from the US for $50 a month with 2TB+ or more bandwidth. in Australia its about $700-$1000 for the same thing. NBN will not fix that. the cost of data traffic in aus is the limiting factor.

it more due to the fact that some of the game servers are being more proactive about keeping the servers running good.

the internode/Games.on.net ones get rebooted once a day usually. ausarma reboot every 6 hours or so. i've played on really crap US based servers too. that are worse than the australian ones.

-2 GMT, so yeah, day time for our night time.

To turn around what I previously said, ANZ 9 last night was full and a couple of mates had to get off the server due to major issues with lag and red/yellow link icons on the screen. I really think it has to do with the servers themselves or the lack of frequent restarts of the servers. I was on ANZ 4 last night and it was 40/40, but not really that bad. I wonder if OS servers suffer the same problems when they reach peak numbers.

Which servers specifically are bad?

If you go on the forums for several of the main ANZ providers, many don't know what they're doing, and admins are not actively playing the game, or around often to respond to issues, nor do they bother to read DayZ forums to know what's going on.

AusArmA is run by players, and we have over a half a dozen admins hanging around on TS3 that can be easily reached when problems arise. We also have largest gathering of players in TS3 for DayZ in the region.

We have had our fair share of issues and woes with DayZ too though. AFAIK, we run the same if not better hardware then the other ANZ hosts. Bandwidth has also never been an issue for us. Gigabit Ethernet is pointless as DayZ will never use it.

Distance to Hive would have an effect, but I suspect it's very minor. We get about 160ms to Hive, as it's based in the US. Each player only sends a few byte of data to and from Hive every 30 seconds or so anyway, so it shouldn't make much difference at all.

When ANZ1-4 have issues, it's usually resolved in a few minutes, maybe 30 minutes if it takes players a while to advise us. Vehicles and tents are spawning fine, etc. We don't have our servers bugged or down for hours or days at a time, and are first to update our servers as they come out, and not several days later.

ANZ1 = +10 GMT

ANZ2 - Beta required. +10 GMT

ANZ3 = -2 GMT

ANZ4 = Beta required, -2 GMT

Several other ANZ hosts also have the time offset so you can play in daylight when you get home late from work/studies.

The issue is not with the servers it's with the way dayz is coded. The game expects a response from the hive straight away so it stops ALL NETWORK TRAFFIC until it gets one.

This is what causes the randomly huge "no message received" desync mid-game. The only thing that makes sense is that the extra ping from the aussie servers to the hive is causing massive lag somewhere (happy to be proven wrong). At the end of the day that's what all the au/nz servers have in common. It sucks as well as we pay 10x what the us hosters are paying.

I can assure you the server hardware is not stressed at all (~35% CPU usage) and our bandwidth is only using about 35 of our 100mb link. We have tried pretty much everything to reduce "server lag" and all fingers point back to dayz and the hive. You'll see in the 1.7.1 patch notes that the lag is hopefully eliminated, or at least significantly reduced.

The lag is also much worse on non-beta servers, but that will change next patch (woo!).

I'm currently in the process of setting up a decent server which will have a GREAT ping to play on, Ill be calling the server SA GAMERS as the server is based here in S.A and am looking forward to having a constant array of players (fingers crossed) so i'll post here again when its good to go and hopefully you guys in Australia have a happy time playing on a decent server.

I played on ANZ 10 last night. Despite using the latest beta patch and the temporary latest DayZ patch, they still had deaths showing up on chat. I was shocked at the number of times I saw someone 'killed' due to trying to get a better respawn. In the space of 5 minutes, I saw the same 4 players get 'killed' more times than the number of players on the server. One guy was so perstistant with it he killed himself at least 20-30 times in the space of 15 minutes.

Based on previous statements, even from Rocket, this is a big no-no, due to the stresses it places on the main database. Could these things be causing a bit of the desync problems we are seeing? I may be wrong, but I assume that a player creating a new life requests more data from the main database than a simple update that happens during game play?

Is this type of action considered a kickable or banable offence? Is there a log that server admins can review due to the rampant mis-use of this action, even if the chat does not display 'death posts'?

Cool story..

I find it hard to see how having it hosted in SA will automagically make it a better server, seeing as it's the latency to the hive that has the most effect ;)

1) ANZ 9 is GMT +2

2) ANZ 3 is +10 GMT,

3) ANZ 4 is 50 slots, not 40.

4) ANZ 4 is +2 GMT

Since when was ping/latency the issue in DayZ? I'd say the issue is more about the heavy loads on servers and the hive being overloaded, not the latency.

EDIT: Ok I see you're saying the server's ping to the hive matters, not our ping to the server. My bad. Still I don't see how the latency matters so much. Please explain.

Ping has little to no effect in DayZ as far as I've seen
