I'd seperate all children from all adults in every way and let them out when they are 18, this way pedophillia would never be an issue again, and teenagers would actually WANT to see thier parents.... Bit draconian I know but... One can but dream....

Perhaps clans could have a probation period? I know one 14 year old person who is friendly mature and friendly, and just wants to learn and play but he can't get into a clan because of the more immature people of his age group, and lower.

Again, I can't speak for other clans; but you have to understand the amount of stress a recruitment officer would be under.

The constant stream of applications coming in day in and day out would make anyone overworked and tired. So when a kid comes along and says he wants to join the clan, there's not much motivation left to give him a chance.

Age may not reflect maturity but I, myself, don't have a vast amount in common with those in their teens, so I can understand age limits.

But it works both ways, I wouldn't expect a bunch of 14 year old's to want me as part of their clan, and to be honest it would feel a little odd for me as well.

I'm sure there are clans/groups for younger folk out there as the average age range appears to be fairly young.

Now, where's my pipe and slippers?

I agree, as a 14 yr. old, it's difficult joining a group where people actually listen to what you say. I don't even like to talk very much, and so I end up getting booted from TS servers for not talking...

And to the guy saying 14 year olds don't have busy schedules, that doesn't apply to everywhere. I only get to play for a couple hours at around 9pm and on weekends, I hardly have time for anything other than sports and school.

I do, Deet. I've run many a clan and, indeed forums too. It's very stressful. But probation simply means, telling new recruits they can wear a new-recruit clan sign and if you see or get reports of unacceptable behaviour by them they will not be made a full member. :thumbsup:

I really can't understand why 14/15 year old want to play with clans where the average age is 27-37 years old. I see hundreds of forums posts in here with 15-17 year olds posting clans.

However I can see a lot of reasons why 27-37 year olds wouldn't want to play with a 14/15 year old. Your maturity is just one of the smaller issues here, some do act more mature, however I don't want your parents venting at me becasue I spoke about perverted sex jokes in front of you or linked a porn movie outake to the Teamspeak channel.

If clans do have an age limit, it's to protect us, just as much as it is to protect you - if you think theres no paedophiles in online gaming I think you'd be mistaken.

But a clan full of immature kids isn't what someone who's looking for a more mature clan wants. Most of the people my age that I've played with are those immature people who spend too much time being by themselves, rather than around other people where they can learn manners.

Like the other day, I was in a TS server with a ~20 yr. old, and another 14 yr. old. The ~20 year old and I were having a normal conversation about the server hoster (who was an asshole), and the other kid in the server was meowing and singing. I don't want that in a group. So unless I find a group with mature teenagers, I'll prefer older gentlemen to play with.

That doesn't really apply to anything here specifically, but still, you could probably stick it somewhere and make it work...

You honestly wouldn't. Maybe in real life, at school, where he acts normal, but when you get online with him; his inner Katy (Katey?) Perry comes out and it's really obnoxious. His voice sounds like a woman through a mic, too. I honestly didn't recognize his voice the first time I played with him and thought it was a girl.

I am not talking about 9-12 year olds. I am talking about mature teenagers just looking for a group of people to play with. I am not against not allowing someone to play because they are immature and ruin peoples fun. I am talking about mature people who can be just 2 years under the age limit are automatically disqualified because some people of the same age group can be undesirable.

Judge the character of the person in a more detailed recruitment form and in chat. You are not doing anything to prevent undesirable people from joining your clan, your just preventing a large group of people who could for all you know be the funnest people to play with not even get a chance. There are people you will meet who pass all the requirements of recruitment that can be total assholes that will dupe, script, and even kill clan members. I have had that experience.

The power of youth is that if you do not like the world as it is, you have an unbridled opportunity to change it. Start your own community founded upon the principles you value. The Internet is great for connecting like-minded people, so take advantage of that new canvas.

As for an upper age limit on gaming, we may have not cycled through enough time to meet a high volume of old-time gamers yet, but I imagine it will get to that stage. Hell, I'm not going into an old folks home unless it's got at least an Atari next to my bed pan.

Alright, I can understand your position in defending the actual teenage range and not the preteens. They are indeed treated unfairly (in this community especially).....However, for the most part many of them are indeed bad apples. Unfortunately, an immature teenager would be more vocal than a typical mature teenager would be and this may affect a clan's overall attitude towards other younger players.

In regards to having a more detailed recruitment process geared towards filtering out undesirables...I absolutely agree.

However, you have to understand that setting up any sort of recruitment process is an absurd amount of work and some clans may not want to make the additional effort just to grab the handful of mature teenagers out there.

In any case, many clans will continue to disallow applicants under 18 (no matter how this topic progresses) simply because they are tired of dealing with young players in general.

This is a hard topic for me; mostly because I am in the age range of dispute (15). I can obviously see why clans don't want people my age, both from experiences in-game and real life experiences with peers. Most of them are annoying, stupid, immature, and if they played this game they would be the ones backstabbing and camping cherno/elektro. I'm not surprised when a clan has an age limit, nor do I get angry at said clan for it.

However I would include myself among the few who aren't like this. I have never murdered anyone in DayZ. I've been playing multiplayer games since I was under 10 years old; but I knew people didn't want to listen to me so I didn't use a mic. I didn't give them any reason to think I was younger than they were. I've played in many clans before across many games, and never once have I done anything to get myself kicked out of it. I led one when I was 11, and the people in it thought I was at least in high school.

It's not a problem for me, really. If I see a clan has an age limit that is older than me, I don't apply. Simple as that. I find a different clan that doesn't care (for example: trusted medics) about how old you are but cares more about how mature and intelligent you are, as well as how well you can play the game.

I do also get the point that some of the younger guys act more mature then older ones, but those are 5 out of 50. I have personally experienced a lot of younger guys not being serious when the situation needs it, like in a firefight.

As I said, there are also 16+ aged clans. And to be very honest. No matter how much mature you can be, I just don't feel like playing a Survival/Combat game with 12,13,14,15 and even 16 year olds.

You have to look at it like in real life. Do 25 year old guys hang out with 16 year olds? I don't think so. Now, do you get my point? Everyone searches people with similar age for the most best experience.
