Can an Alienware M14x or M17x run DayZ on Max Settings?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm looking at laptops on Ebay and Alienwares are underpriced there, even though they're secondhand. Even though the M17x is pricier than the M14x, can they both run DayZ max settings flawlessly? Or will the M17x run it better?

M14x is what i use. Runs DayZ perfect :)

I'm using a M14x and it runs fine, well as fine as ARMA and DayZ can run. As for the laptop build quality, its fine, there's nothing wrong with it, and the warranty on a new one is great. Mine is a little over a year old and none worse for the wear on it. Only problem was my own fault of having a flash drive in it when someone dropped a pile of text books on it, it broke the drive off in the USB, but Dell replaced the MoBo for free.

All in all the choice is yours but don't let the naysayers fool you, the Alienware Laptops are a fine piece of kit.

Using an alienware m17xr3 with no problems running any game at max settings. DayZ, BF3 ... no probs. Extremely happy with it.

Would I ever buy another one? not a chance.

This one is a replacement for my previous Alienware that gave me nothing but problems. I ran for about 10 months and then gave me 18 months of hell. At least 3 service people to my door to replace parts. One return to the company when it wouldn't even boot. They "tested" it and said nothing was wrong. A week later, it returns, and still wouldn't boot.

After months of complaining, I demanded a replacement. The replacement offered was actually a downgrade on my previous system, but the Dell legal team basically told me to like it or lump it, due to "depreciation" of the value of the original, despite the fact it was unusable for almost 18 months. They took 66% off the original value of the laptop, and offered me 34% of the price I paid back, or the m17x. They refused to extend my warranty to cover the time the original was out of service too.

When an alienware laptop is working, it is a joy, but once it stops, it is a nightmare. Upgrading is almost impossible. Difficult with any laptop, but even more so with an alienware. Home repairs/replacements are impossible. PC repair companies won't touch alienware with a bargepole. Replacement parts have to be purchased from Dell because generic ones won't work, and these parts are up to 300% more expensive than you would be able to source them independently. Even upgrading your graphic drivers can be hell (ATI catalyst won't recognise Alienware systems due to "legal issues" and the only drivers you can get are from Dell which are usually 6 months behind.)

I love my laptop, but know that the next time it dies, I'll either build a new pc, or if I need a laptop, it won't be alienware.

THANK YOU. At least I know some truth.

No chance in hell any laptop in existence will play this on max settings. It will fry and burn in a poof of smoke. If your gonna spend that much get a desktop. And even then, for that price you will not achieve max settings.

Max money? I'm willing to spend at most 1000 dollars. We just went to Disneyworld and Star Wars Celebration 6 so we're a bit tight right now.

1000$? Do you need the laptop? for traveling etc?

Your other option would be buying parts and building a desktop. With 1000$ you can build a computer 4-6x better than any laptop for that price. If you're worried about building your computer, I was in the same boat, I went to youtube and looked up step by step guides. And bam, I built my own computer.

Exactly. Which is why i'm traversing ebay for Alienwares. Would you suggest this? http://compare.ebay....var=lv&var=sbar

If your good with not using to much hard drive space, you might want to look into this: http://compare.ebay.com/like/290769062619?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

It's a good card and a pretty good processor. It's discontinued, by the way, so you can only find it on Ebay.
