One server ruins hours of gameplay :/

So i log in this evening after a long day. Low and behold a few hundred meters in front of me is a bandit looting a corpse and a box full of all guns and all ammo. I noticed he was logged into the box ran up as fast as i could and axed him in the face. Amazing, bandit dead and i have an amazing sniper rifle, pistol and tools.

Fast forward a couple of hours and im in the forest checking my map and i lag thru the floor, into ocean and die. ffs.

So I respawn and spend a few more hours gathering items. I manage to scavenge a scoped AK 2 pairs of NV goggles (was going to try win a friend with a gift lol) and some other things. it got dark and i had FINALLY hiked to cherno, suddenly everyone in the server suicided. double ffs.

I have spent a considerable amount of time and some horrible murders learning the ropes of DayZ, this just took the p*ss, and if i want to play some more i have to start AGAIN.

Game coule be more amazing than it is imo.

Server IP is - 92.48.90.164:2302 - Not going back. Sure they will lose sleep over it obv.

They can do more than you think. Much more than what admins of a server can do.

Read 1 of the many hacker stories on this forum. Even head over to Youtube and watch a video of a hacker. They have a huge list of bullshit they can do.

Best way to avoid the hackers is to play on low-pop servers, as they won't get their thrill on those servers, since there's not 40 people to kill. Not guaranteed (Ran into a hacker on a server with 8 players), but in 50+ hours of gameplay on lowpop servers, I've only run into one hacker, and he killed us with his gun - and combat logging like a bitch - not with scripts.

Hm. I get it now. Did some research. I wondered how people kept finding me in the fcking middle of nowhere..

Shame as the games got potential, and now i feel like i just wasted £24 quid buying it as I dont want to play with cheaters :/

Server Admins can do the following.

-start the server

-stop the server

-ban someone (with proof of hacking or for racism)

-look at the server logs

-change the server version

-set the server difficulty and time

-set the max ping

Hackers can do everything you could possible imagine. Including teleporting to you, teleporting you to them, teleporting anywhere on the map, spawning you in the air to fall to your death, spawning the entire server into one location, insta-kill entire server, god mode, all items in the game and all items not in the game (arma 2 stuff), see everyone noted on their map, see all vehicles and tents noted on their map.

So think about who you are really pissed off at before you go bad mouthing a server, and think about what an admin can do, versus what a punk ass kid with a few downloaded scripts can do...

And this is why we are waiting for the standalone. If you do anything in a reasonably populated server, expect to die. Actually, being an Alpha, expect to die alot anyways, cause there are some many bugs. I died once just the other day at the airfield in a way that could've been a hacker, but no one else was around and no one else was killed, or I had a terrible glitched that killed me. It's the way of the Alpha. Once it's an actual game and not a mod, then we can see more reliability in surviving.

The other course of action to avoid the outrageous hacking problem is Private Hive servers.

I've been enjoying some private hives recently, and found my first hacker on one last night.

He had a soldier uniform (you know, hard helmet, etc) and started RPing with us, holding us up in the name of the british military (even though he was definitely american), telling us to drop our weapons, checked us for contraband, and then got kicked and banned by admin. I have been beating myself up since it happened for not recording it! He was a funny character, but he didn't kill us or anything, even though he was clearly a hacker.

I've also had one hacker shoot my buddy on the leg, told him that if he didn't kill him he'd give him all sorts of stuff... my buddy played along, got an as50, nvgs, rangefinders, gps, etc. for free, and then the hacker morphined and blood bagged him and trotted off - then my buddy shot him.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is while not ALL hackers are the obnoxious script kiddies who are going to teleport you to the thunderdome, or into the ocean, or debug fields, or nuke elektro... the fact is, the main hive is just crawling with them. Private Hives offer better support against hackers usually (as the admins there aren't bound by dev's rules).

You got what you deserved. You watched someone script/loot a scripted box, killed them, then took the hacked in gear. You contributed to the problem, and not the solution. Next time, bury the body, and hatchet the box to death. I can't verify they are destroyable, but I've heard they act like full jerry cans.

Insta death is due to a scripter killing everyone. It has nothing to do with the server it's self (unless of course the server admin was the one to run the script).

You really shouldn't trash a servers reputation with false accusations when you have no idea of the issues that caused your death.

the fact that you realize you don't know everything about dayz should stop you from making posts placing blame where it might not belong. everyone in this mod has experienced the same thing you did. the mod is easily exploited. get used to it or move on, while we wait for change

Sure I understand what you are saying and to a degree I agree. Being new to the game but having years of online gaming experience, I didnt realise that a non server admin could actually kill the entire server.

On the other side is it not a good thing to out a server that will most likely ruin many hours of gameplay?

You haven't "outed" anything. All servers will most likely ruin hours of gameplay because most servers will see a script kid join it at some point or another. The higher the population of the server the higher the chances are. All you have done is created a lot of drama and bad mouthed a server that some community member out there is paying $40 - $100 per month out of his own pocket to run. Good job...
