Weird Map Markings

So today around 10:20pm PST i was up far north by the dam, and was making my way west, when i started to hear these very faint, but noticeable background noises that ive never heard before. As i started to make my way west i decided to check my map to make sure i was going the right way, when i stumbled upon these markings on my map

So i decided to make my way towards the "Secret House" as i was only a few kilometers east from it, about 5 minutes into my walk i checked my map again only to find that all of the markings that were previously there had been removed (The sounds had also stopped). When i finally arrived at the "Secret House" location, there was no building to be seen, but the slight background music had started to play up again while i was seemingly in place of where this house should have been. Whether this was some kind of bug, or a hidden Easter egg, it was certainly very eerie!

I believe it's someone forgetting that map markings are visible to everyone when you place one on the map at the moment, can't help explaining the music though, could have just been coincidence?

OOOOORRRRR, that markings were placed out of fun, or to lead some idiots towards the place where th snipers are looking at...

I usually place such markers too. Last time I found a boat and somewhen the fuel was too low and I left it behind. But I placed a marker (boat low fuel) or sth like that for other to check...

I saw something like this on one of the NY servers once. It was Attack routes and egress options, but they were different. The markings weren't just the circles x's, but dotted lines and a couple other symbols. It also had a list of unit types, one officer, one medic, two grenadiers, and three soldiers.

Never got to check it out, but I thought it was weird. A few other people saw the markings on their map as well.

by the way if you couldn't figure it out, all of those markings are fake. stay away from them lol

hm, I wasn't aware you could put anything on the map but the circled x's? What do you have to push ctrl or something while clicking the map?

I have not been able to L/shift+RMB a waypoint on the Map since the last update.

I was wondering has the ability been removed or is it a server side setting.

My personal opinion is that it should not be possible to mark the map for others to see or even set a waypoint for yourself, after all its not so hard to take out the map or communicate with your buddies the map reference.

What do you think guys ?

Isn't it just double left click to place a marker?

Also, I believe that the visibility of the markers has to do with what chat channel you're in. Global, Party, and Side will show them to everyone, and Direct is just you.

Exactly.

And those markers dont exactly help you navigate... the shift+click thing does however, so its a good thing this was removed.

Honestly it is a little fail that the bookmarks on the map is shared across all maps - now that everybody is talking reality and stuff - funny it hasn't been brought up before.

That being said, I am aware that we are all on the same team for cooperative gameplay to work so there probably isn't any way around bookmark sharing.

A map that contains bookmarks could potentially be more valuable than any other item in the game if lost (carrier dying) - if bookmark sharing didn't exist.
