My one wish for standalone.

Recommended Posts

Clearly a work in progress, but just picture DayZ and chernarus with 6 inches of snow. Being able to see peoples footsteps depending on how long ago they traveled. Blood on the ground if someone was shot recently and wounded(Could track them if it was within 10 minutes). Winter season starting in december and ending during the first week of march, then going back to the regular chernarus/chernarus plus map. Zombies will move slower due to the temperatures, but be more aggressive and travel in packs in search of the food(think of how animals react during the winter months, especially Deer.)

Just picture it for a second. You all know that sound, or should I say lack there of, when you're outside on a snowy night. It's so silent you could hear a strand of hair hit the pavement. You're in a treeline prone with your arctic camo M24, watching your breath as you exhale into the cold. Then you hear a shot echo in the distance, and it seems like the echo goes on forever due to the snow covered terrain. You see a survivor running with blood pouring out leaving a trail on the ground. You throw a round in the chamber, lock the bolt forward, and pull the trigger putting a round in his chest and dropping him turning the snow red.

Just picture that, and tell me... "Fuck yes" aren't the first words that enter your mind.

Rocket, we need a snow chernarus, with blizzards instead of rain. It needs to alternate based on months, the same way the game relies on real world moon cycles. This video is just a mod of a map that someone did in their spare time. I know Rocket and his team behind the standalone could pull this off flawlessly, and I believe it's been talked about in the past, but I would love to see it touched on more in the coming weeks/months.

I made a suggestion a while ago about implementing seasons in the future. It would really add to the game.

BTW *thread moved to suggestions.

Seasons would be awesome, imagine all the fields you are normally far visible on having corn or wheat growing on them, making them a great hiding spot,

having piles of fallen leafes in the fall you can hide in, trees becoming leafeless except for the pine trees etc.

i absolutely and wholeheartedly approve of this idea  :beans:

Wicked Idea i think this would add perfectly into the game it would also be cool to have some sort of snow camo suit like the ghille but just for snow :D

I thought rather than being like real life seasons an in-game season could last one month real time.

Not to mention the fact that heatpacks would become way more useful!

They should design skins for the winter as well, like a white and thick coat or so.

seasons could add higher risk of freezing to death, especially in winter, god, imagine being out in a night in chernarus when its snowing while having minus 30 degrees

Yeah that would be awesome. Imagine searching a town during a blizzard only being able to see only a few metres in front of you, and suddenly you bump into another player or a pack of zombies. That would be intense. Gunshots on a clear snowy day would echo for miles but gunshots during a blizzard would be extremely muffled.

Players would be forced to adapt their play styles and survival tactics making the chance of an end game less likely.

It would also make the base building for the standalone more interesting. Players with a simple wooden shack would be fine for the summer but when winter comes it would be pretty useless.

Maybe a fixed % chanse to snow in the winter months? so that it isnt always snow every day.

If it snowed for a few days the layer on the ground would become thiker, and you would need chains for your car weels and winter clothing. Maybe you would need to take shelter in a tent or a house to heat up during blizzards?

Nice, also it would be harder to find meat in the winter so you could prepare by stocking up your base during the autumn.

I'm glad others share my opinion on this. This needs to be high priority on the "to-do" list for standalone, and Rocket... I hope you're listening. We want snow, and the pros and cons that come with it. I can just imagine running around at night, start shivering, and notice I have no heatpacks. Only option is to light a fire and camp near it until I warm up, all the while exposing the shit out of my self, but it's a risk your forced into taking if you want to survive. That one scenario out of 1000s of possibilities that a snowy landscape can offer, would be incredibly tense. Heatpacks would be MANDATORY as staying on the move alone wouldn't be enough to keep your temperature in a safe range.

I mean, just having it be so quiet, walking through the woods, hearing nothing but your crunchy footsteps on the snow, and then you hear an M107 fire off in the distance from what seems like 2000m away just because of the echo effect due to the blanketed and the air density. Also, bear traps hidden under the snow....trollolol?

Imagine the people who get the game as a gift for Christmas. New players complain enough as it is, never mind once you throw stuff like freezing to death and extremely scarce food supplies in to the mix...
