make vehicles in dayz more interesting

i am not sure whether this has been posted before but i had a quick search.

my idea is that vehicles should have more repairable parts and have accessories that you can find for your vehicle.

new repairable and/or replaceable parts:

battery - when broken the vehicle should not be able to start. requires scrap metal to fix or a totaly new battery

lights - vehicle light should be fixed using a light bulb. light will not work when its not repaired.

transmission - needs gears to fix and scrap metal. will make the vehicle move slower when not repaired and use more fuel.

steering - needs a steering wheel to fix otherwise the vehicle would not be able to turn.

accessories:

winch - could be used for towing other vehicles and your own vehicle.

I'd love it if you could reinforce vehicles with make-shift armour like in the Dawn OTD remake.

Imagine if you found an M240, a welder and some scrap metal and you could mount a turret to the back of your pickup?

I know it'd be hard to implement but damn that shit would be fun.

Well, it's a bit complicated with the current engine, but should be doable in a fashion, even though it slightly breaks immersion.

You could allow people to "transform" vehicles, like the hilux, into a "technical" if they hold the gun that is mounted on the technical model. You would walk up to the car with an RPK (which isn't currently in game but that could change) and the context menu would say something like "Attach RPK" at which point the hilux would despawn and be replaced by a matching technical with an RPK mounted onto it.

In a similar fashion you could actually build detachable optics etc., just remove the current weapon and replace it with the other one.

In the same way, you could add other parts to vehicles, even though it does mean having to model all the different models and spawn/despawn them with the respective parts given constraints of the engine (unless I'm mistaken).

Still, it should be a bit of a tedium, but well worth the result. :D

Nah, as just outlined, *that* would be relatively trivial. If what you want is already an ARMA asset programming this takes around twenty lines of code, and that's generous.

Bicycles, motorbikes and ATVs should be storable in larger vehichles.
