nuttex 51 Posted April 24, 2012 Is it possible to add the ability to raid gardens that so many houses seem to have? Those pumpkins look too tasty not to try.Obviously, they might a part of island (I don't really know if you can use them then). So, is it possible to do something akin to this? griffinz 2816 Posted April 24, 2012 Hah, just last night I was trying to eat from a pumpkin patch.
nuttex 51 Posted April 24, 2012 Wait, they've already added that? Nevermind then, I've just had this suggestion in my head for a couple of days.
griffinz 2816 Posted April 24, 2012 No no..."tried" being the key word here
nuttex 51 Posted April 24, 2012 Gotcha. Seriously, I wonder if it's possible to make some that is a part of island to be used in such a way. Technically, I guess could remove a pumpkin model and add to inventory.

They may have to turn a "texture" in to an "object" (item with extended properties like slot usage, health regen, state, etc.)...and then make rules for creating instances of the object (random spawning, or spawning specifically in gardens...or manually placing each instance in the editor).Still not *too* difficult, but really not worth the time considering there is a good abundance of food around populations already

I dont do much modding in Arma (only coding outside of games)...so it could be much easier/harder than I described. This mod is only in alpha, so dont lose hope just yet! killarag 1 Posted April 24, 2012 This would be pretty awesome to stumble upon especially when you're low on food.
bodycount 83 Posted April 24, 2012 Pumpkins would take up 10 inventory slots. You need to find a canning kit to process pumpkins and also loot some mason jars. :)~
WebCole 2 Posted April 24, 2012 Perhaps you could be able to plant your own Garden for a balanced diet :P
gobbo (DayZ) 6 Posted April 24, 2012 You guys haven't read the Zombie Survival Guide, have you? ;)In a scenario with an unknown infection, would you risk your life for a few fresh pumpkins? For all you know, they might be infected with whatever causes the zombification...

Hell, how is hunting possible if animals might be infected? What if the infection comes from water supplies? Why can we use water pumps then?

Cooking pumpkins might be possible.
oktyabr 53 Posted April 24, 2012 On a tangent I wouldn't mind being able to forage a bit more in the wilderness too. Random spawns of things like "wild berries", "tasty roots", "edible mushroom". Could use the same in gardens with a higher probability of finding something good there... could be generic like "fresh vegetable". Hey, just because it looks like a garden of tasty pumpkins doesn't mean it is! The "gardens" are actually an artifact of the map itself which was designed assuming someone had recently been tending them. Several days/weeks/months after Day Zero and they might just be a moldly patch of dead vegetation. And while I'm here, how about a little fishing? :)
nuttex 51 Posted April 24, 2012 And while I'm here' date=' how about a little fishing? :)[/quote']Been thinking about that myself. That'd require a separate thread though - otherwise we might make a mess here with more or less of topic stuff :)
