Is it even possible to play with other people without a mic?

It would be very difficult, even using mics we will often have to get everyone to go prone suddenly so we can quickly identify if someone is one of us or a hostile, if we had to type that it's likely we would be dead before we hit return.

I play with a guy and we just talk to each other on steam, I suppose it would be harder if there were more people though

You can get a cheap headset/mic for $10-$20, hell I'm currently using iPhone earbuds as a temporary mic since my normal one is broken and I haven't gotten around to replacing it.

You won't be able to. At most you'll be able to identify eachother and maybe move towards a direction.

If you come under attack you won't type fast enough, or if you plan on attacking another town you'll follow a gameplan without changing it.

A mic is worth it if you play alot/have a friend, even the cheap ones at 20$.
