Cross bow with backpack mechanics

I was thinking about the cross bow, and how it works.

The reason why you can't stack bolts is cause you wouldn't be able to pull bolts out of your targets. Arma2 Engine doesn't work like that.

You have a stack of 10 bolts, You shoot one and then try to retrieve it, Arma will picture that as you getting 10 new bolts

soo a 2nd solution is:

the cross bow has a quiver on it.

What if you could use the Cross bow as a "book bag" for bolts.

Only bolts fit in to it and the cross bow will directly pull bolts from it when out of ammo in your normal inventory, It will hold about 5 bolts total.

Also I would like to add, You should be able to craft bolts out of wood and scrap metal, feathers, etc. --wooden bolt shouldn't travel as far, but do more damage. since it splinters on impact... You loose the bolt after it's shot also.

-Steel bolts should travel farther, more accurate, but do less damage but you can retrieve them

Edited, Please add a Aim point to the cross bow also. It needs it.

There was a topic a while back about making quivers.

But it's true I completely forgot about retrieving when i said they might need to be 3 or 5/ quiver ... Making the ammo a bit easier to find but unretrievable might do the trick, as well as your "make your own" system.

Allowing the stacking of certain items, like the bolts, would be great. Most items though, nope.

the main point of this post is the Backpack mechanics.

crafting wooden bolts was only a idea i wanted to throw in with this topic.

what did you think of that part of the post?

I love all about crafting. I think crafting BOWS would be a great thing for example. Imagine spawning with an axe but no gun and having to chop the wood to bake the bow and arrows.

Using a rope you could otherwise use for traps and stuff. Survivalist style.

Craftable bolts would really add a layer to the game, especially if they were different than steel ones. Like they would systematically cause bleeding on humans.

yes quite, BUT THE POST IS ABOUT THE BACK PACK MECHANICS!

And you're only suppose to craft wooden bolts... and wooden bolts are suppose to SUCK.

I'd much rather enjoy it if the crossbow had a quiver installed on it that contained up to 5 bolts. Especially if retrieving bolts were instantly put back into those slots. Although I'd be equally happy if we could put bolts into the sidearm slot or reload from the backpack.

I'd kinda like it if it was manually placed in to the quiver. It adds to the game play in a way.

Kinda like how stick-shift cars are fun to drive cause it gives the driver more to do :P

Putting bolts in sidearm slot would be a pain since that's where your pistol ammo goes

This isn't exactly right. You can add a variable to the player that keeps tracks of bolts. It would require, in this case, 10 different pictures to do it.

Or if you trust yourself with a crossbow enough, a larger quiver can be found as loot. It replaces your backpack and can hold up to 20 arrows. Another suggestion might be to add a hip quiver, which replaces your sidearm(since its on your hip and that's where the pistols are holstered), and can carry ten arrows. Just my suggestion.

I'm not some arma2 engine expert or w.e so I don't really know

But that seems like really hard work to stack them. They need pictures for each amount of bolts? then scripts that lets you re-stack them (witch i've never seen in countless amounts of mods that i've played)

I think it would just be easier to put a backpack mechanic in the cross bow and then you have 5 bolts ready to go and it doesn't mess with normal inv
