How are people stashing their gear?

I'm paranoid of using tents (too many have failed), and I am paranoid of someone stealing a vehicle or server restart wiping the vehicle. I find myself avoid anywhere people might be paranoid of losing my stuff, and there is no point in hunting better/backup gear if I can't hold it.

What are you guys doing?

Somewhere near the edge of the map.. I don't have my own camp or tents but I have found many that will always keep me geared up. ;)

I never stash gear anywhere, mainly because I don't really stay on any certain server. If there is no room on my person or in my pack, I prioritize my gear and drop anything I may not need in order to pick up the more important item.

I have been having great luck saving tents after reading somewhere in the forums some tips. What I've been doing is the usual pitch tent, place items inside, and save (once!). The key seems to be not touching anything you place into the tent until after the next server reset. I have pitched and saved at least 10 tents for our clan in the last week, all saved.

I simply test the server. If the stuff is present also after a server restart, or my own death, I make a note of it, and go back to that server. It's easy with DayZ Commander.

If you click save tent atleast once every 24hours that works aswel

I have tried saving only once but it didn't work. Yesterday I decided to just put something in the tent without saving and see how this turns out. Now my tent is gone. ;(

Can that happen? If you put something in the tent and don't save can the the tent disappear after a restart?

If you spawn in the south west part of Kamenka. Go run straight to the left (west) and further outside the map (where the rail track ends) and the tree's end. Most guys place tents there somewhere in those green blank fields behind hills. So you'll need to run along the coast to see tents if they are there. People do that because after they get killed they have a close gear up station at their spawn. :)
