Hawk24 94 Posted June 11, 2012 everyone here acts as if they stay alive for months at a timeAnd you act like everyone with NVGs is a duper/hacker/glitcher
Tegla (DayZ) 112 Posted June 11, 2012 Okay so most of the people dont live for a month. But it would be unfair to those who actually DO and get all their gear by fair play
vanilladragon 1 Posted June 11, 2012 how many people live longer than a month? 1% 5% at most? how many people are affected by hacking/farming? the entire community constantly
Refried 14 Posted June 11, 2012 i imagine it does appear constant when you decide everyone that doesn't have a winchester is hacking

vanilladragon 1 Posted June 11, 2012 i imagine it does appear constant when you decide everyone that doesn't have a winchester is hackingi am a good player' date=' i often survive for more than a week and i have high end gear with in a few days... all of which is irrelevant to my point.i have -personally- found 3 obviously duped caches in my time playing, one major one with 7 tents containing 19 dmrs plus the rest (i did take one lol how hypocritical) not counting the countless youtube vids that show entire airfields full of duped tents. its a major problem that can be fixed with very little effort and cost on the part of the community. one death a month to reduce the incentive to dupe/farm? sounds reasonable to me. you even know what its coming and everyone shares the same fate. the makarov beach party that occurs after the reset might be a little messy but worth it[hr']Have you seen the life expectancy? Every month? I can't manage a week without dying lolexactly. the average life expectancy is 31 minutes. a reset once a month is going to be an inconvenience? to the 4 people who live that long? Metric (DayZ) 6 Posted June 11, 2012 I fail to see how dying to a duper with NVG's and a DMR is any different to dying to a player with a makarov and a can of beans.Death comes.I haven't been affected by duping, and I've never been killed by a DMR. In fact I didn't even know duping existed until I read this thread, and I still have my doubts. If death had a time stamp, I wouldn't bother playing. I have absolutely no doubt I could survive past a month if I chose too, it would be boring but It could be done.I just wish people would spend less time posting whinyness and more time playing. If anything should be done it should be to make the game harder. kaffaljidhma 1 Posted June 11, 2012 Here's a gameplay idea: have an ascendance type thing where you take a 4 week character with some special items like a car or whatever on the final journey to freedom or whatever to get some sort of reward or score on your profile. It will reset your character without screwing you over' date=' reset cars to give other players a chance, and keep the game fresh for veterans.[/quote']its more about removing the incentive to farm/hack everyone here acts as if they stay alive for months at a time?? i must be a noob considering my average life is about 7 days. can you guys show me how to survive months at a time?Prone moreHide under treesNever cross open terrain when there's a forest route availableDon't get greedyIf you make noise, you're not safe till you're a mile away
vanilladragon 1 Posted June 11, 2012 i was being facetious, 7 days is a respectable average considering the world wide average is 31 minutes.
Robert512 12 Posted June 11, 2012 Life of the land, there is enough wild life and water to last for a very long time provided that you have found matches and a axe to chop wood for a campfire. But that would be a bit boring and would have not lead me to a CZ550, MP5 and finally a AKM (from the controltower of the North East airfield, and I got that on my own), I had my doubts when I found a PDW in a deerstand but decided that I would keep my M1911 with enough rounds keep me going for at least a another month at this rate.I still search for cans of beans, because if your blood level is still 12000 you don't need the cooked meat but only a can. Keep that meat for when I really need it to replenish your bloodlevel. Also have enough cans of Soda and cantines filled with water, actually once you know all the water-places you don't need Coke or Pepsi, with 3-4 cantines you always have more than enough to reach the most nearby lake or pond.Oh and I nowadays travel mostly at night, the same goes when hunting for foodcans and other equipment. Wildlife is another matter, it's quite hard to find that in the dark.So my next goals are, NVG's and a Bike.

BlargleKing 0 Posted June 11, 2012 While I agree with Vanilla that hacking/cheating/duping needs to be dealt with, a character reset is not the way to go about it. Why not? Simply for the reason that a reset is a band-aid, treat the symptom rather than the root problem sort of solution. The devs need to take a look at any and all data pertaining to duping, and implement a fix that prevents duping from occurring. Additionally, we as a community need to point out cases (proven or suspected) of duping to Rocket and team, and let them deal with the individuals involved. To answer your initial question - would people bother to dupe if they knew their gear was going to vanish in a month (apologies if I'm just repeating here)? Absolutely. The dupers would simply refine their process in order to speed it up even more. It's a sad but true scenario. Additionally, a mandatory reset puts a cap on what I, as a player, can set my sights on. There's only so much of a challenge I can put to myself in terms of survival time because regardless of what I do I'll just be reset. I've got some pretty decent strategies as it stands for survival (many from the community here) and I only tend to die when I deviate from the rules I've set for myself. I realize my response is likely tl;dr so to recap:Fix the duping/hacking - Yes.Punish honest players with a fixed reset - No.

Robert512 12 Posted June 11, 2012 The point of DayZ is staying alive, not have some idiot resetting your live because he thinks that everyone with more than 2 cans of beans and makarov more than a mile inland is a farmer/hacker or whatever. The mission of this game is plain and simple, stay alive by all means possible. I agree that using exploits or hacks is low and unfair, but any punishment or method that would hurt or give a disadvantage to players who want to play honest should be avoided at all time.Oh and by honest I mean that you can still shoot people if you want to, the mission is still stay alive by all means possible, just without hacks or exploits please, but from what I understand the developers are on to that, give them time, the game is still Alpha. Silverback (DayZ) 2 Posted June 11, 2012 i was being facetious' date=' 7 days is a respectable average considering the world wide average is 31 minutes.[/quote']Your still on about this wipe thing after seven pages of negative responses, the whole idea is rediculous. The great thing about this game is you can play it how you want, I know there's people out there who just disappear into the wilds and live off the land and other like me who just want to go from town to town killing everything. No matter how you play it having your progress WIPED every month would just suck, it would just turn the game into a newb friendly zombie love fest. So what if there's clans out there who are creating camps and hoarding weapons? So long as their not server surfing let them get on with it. The maps so massive your not going to see hordes of players everywhere. So my opinion is; It should NEVER happen. And Drageneaglered or whatever your name is...for your own sake go play CoD, L4D or Dead Island.EDIT: With regards to your above comment...I'm a gamer and play most nights but that attitude is what I hate most about it. FOAD.

Herr Robert 28 Posted June 11, 2012 i think so' date=' like once a month. it would help keep the game fair for people who dont have a group of 40 guild friends farming barracks and filling tents with loot or dupers.[/quote']The players you want to punish are the ones that would remain more or less unaffected by this. They would just retrieve new gear from their tents once they die, while players that have worked hard to acquire their gear would lose their progress upon the reset. This has to be one of the most stupid ideas on the forums so far. Hawk24 94 Posted June 11, 2012 You know what's funny?This..."idea"...of yours is supposed to defeat the incentive to dupe and farm itemsYet by wiping every character, tent and vehicle each month you're ENCOURAGING people to farm and exploit even moreOnce the big server wipe is out everyone will rush to the NW Airfield and start exploiting the game mechanics to get the best gear as fast as possibleIn the end you punish everyone but those that you want to punishGlitchers will always find a way to get the rarest items possible with the least amount of time and effort investedA monthly wipe won't stop them, it will only encourage them to become faster and more efficient at farming rare itemsYou don't CURE a disease by suppressing the SYMPTOMSYou don't FIX a glitch by WIPING the resulting items(+everything achieved in a legit way) every monthAnd again, DayZ Staff already disapproved of your "idea", so please let this thread die
