should there be regular resets on characters

this thread >.>

There is not so much issue with rockets mod' date=' just with the attitude of people on the forums who insist on knowing whats right for the game while defending the punishment of every playstyle other than deathmatch, and while using 3rd party software communication to deny ingame interaction and using tents to circumvent permadeath.

They're simply not in the position to yell at other people who make suggestions, which is what is happening in this thread.

What would be the point of playing the game if all the time you spent getting loot etc dissapears after a month. It would be the biggest waste of time ever.

I think it would be the biggest waste of time ever to "play" a game which is about grinding virtual items that just sit in a tent and are not even part of any gameplay experience whatsoever.

I just can't believe we're cresting 13 pages of this vitriolic back-and-forth. It was an idea. I think it was a really dumb one. Why do we need to go on and on about it? If you don't like it, don't give it the time of day. If you do like it, hope it gets implemented. Either way, flamefests solve nothing.

This thread is far more about massive internet warrior brawls than actual game discussion, and has been for some time.

I agree a lot with perestain here. Although the OP's post/suggestion was not the best solution, it's clearly a shot in the dark against a deeper matter. I notice it even from my few days playing here.

Perestain the reason people play using third party software is for fun. They also have friends. I'm sure a shit load of people would not play this mod if that were disabled, I for one wouldn't. I mean for fuck sake it's a 225km map! Some times I've gone for ages without seeing another person.

If you don't like that steer clear of online games and play single player story based games like Barbie Pony Ride Adventure into the Lost Castle of Throbbing Forum Posters. I hear it's a real blast.

You probably raised afew more garbage points in you huge walls of text but, and I'm probably not alone, I've given up even browsing them.

no one lives for over a month.

I hate to necrobump such a ridiculous thread' date=' but I just wanted to return to this discussion and point out that my teammate is now on [b']Day 36. Plays every day, ~2 hours minimum - no cheats, hacks, sticks to one server and regularly raids major cities and hotspots.

So, yeah.

i would be on day 31 if that damn pine tree on the north elektro hill didn't decide to tear my intestines out when i attempted to prone around the front of it

surviving is easy; finding a glorious (non-bug related) death is the challenge

Quite a shame to see all the aggro twats that shout 'ALPHA' at people all the damn time are the ones that don't get that resets in ALPHA are common.

Its a test phase not a fucking game.

I think it's not a bad idea. Clean resets of all the servers (reseting vehicles, tents, etc) should be a regular thing for the sake of freshly testing the game as it changes. These new features might adjust how a server population slowly migrates and where they move to (set up camp) as they move inland.

Of course you have a large percentage of the game players who are more interested in the game for their personal satisfaction than they are invovled for the greater good of the final game as a whole. Needless to say quite a few people would be upset.

what would be the point in anything if you were going to die?

no one lives for over a month. the only people who this would affect is the people who farm the shit out of the good loot spawns and keep oodles of tents filled with gear for every time they die.

this game rewards time sinkers not skill.

best idea ive heard in a while

You can play just fine with direct voice. You will even have positional audio. And you could arrange a meeting point with your friends before logging in. They could add radios to make it even more interesting. Player interactions in general would be more realistic and feel more real, since everybody communicates the same way in the gameworld.

If you don't like that steer clear of online games and play single player story based games like Barbie Pony Ride Adventure into the Lost Castle of Throbbing Forum Posters. I hear it's a real blast.

Yea I already played through that game. Highly recommended.

Seriously though, I use TS a lot for strictly competitive team-based gaming (CS, SC2, sometimed Battlefield which is not that competitive though IMO), but for a simulation like DayZ which is all about the atmosphere it is a bit of an immersion breaker.

You probably raised afew more garbage points in you huge walls of text but, and I'm probably not alone, I've given up even browsing them.

Yea, it got a bit lengthy, sorry, haha.

Still I will not understand why people think its so important to accumulate stuff thats sitting in a tent, only to ever be pulled out to deny permadeath, which is one of the main points of the original game experience.

If, after your tent disappears, you realize that it is pointless to accumulate stuff, then I have some news for you: It has been pointless the whole time, even before it disappeared.

Surprise.

No really, you shouldn't have to be an avid existentialist to notice that.

It's funny, even more so that the OP that was going to get no merit, that this thread has more responses than legit threads looking for legit suggestions. You're all feeding a stupid thread that should have had not 1 reply, but instead has 10+ pages and a dayz staffer trying to do first grade math in his post.

Everyone needs to take it easy be let this one die.

Ps- yes I know I am posting in a thread I just thrashed. But let's let this one go down. Just noticed it was bumped.

i think so' date=' like once a month. it would help keep the game fair for people who dont have a group of 40 guild friends farming barracks and filling tents with loot or dupers.

who would be inconvenienced by a character reset across all servers? mostly the hackers, dupers and farmers. i'm surprised there hasnt been one yet with the influx of players in the last few weeks.

would anyone bother farming and duping if they knew their gear wasnt going to last more than a month?

It would hurt people like me the most. The people that work hard and take risks to get their sweet loot. I walk, crawl, sneak, scout, run, navigate, and pray my way through zombies and bandits just to get my shiney compass. I always play solo. I don't cheat, hack, loot farm, or server hop. Everything I have I did the hard way.

The hackers, cheaters, loot farmers, and server hoppers would be hurt the least since they can get what they want with far less (or none) work than honest players.

Then you have an even smaller percentage of players who know a thing or two about how professional QA works and understand that since character data is not changing, wiping/resetting the data after every update is pointless from a testing standpoint and actually counter-productive because it tests the same aspects of the game over and over instead of allowing servers to mature as they would in Beta or Final.

Wipes in alpha are common because most games have complex character data - levels, experience, talents, skills, health, mana, etc. and as that changes it becomes necessary to test the changes.

Anyway, I'm not going to have the argument again. I already explained why wipes don't help testing at this juncture and would actually be a waste of the dev's time. I just wanted to come back and respond to the "nobody lives for 30 days" bullshit.

Mass gear farming on airfields for example, is not a bad thing, its the daily wish and often suggested power of groups in action.

My current life is gong on 23 days now. I'd be pretty choked if I was arbitrarily 'reset' at the end of every month. I may die tonight and lose everything but it would be on my terms, not some butthurt bs character reset.

I only get to play maybe 5-7 hours per week, on a good week. Some weeks not at all. I would be opposed to such resets on the grounds that I would probably not get very far before each reset. It would be pretty tired to have everything reset once I started to make some real progress.
