Abandoned or just Incommunicado?

Recommended Posts

Well, the glitches in the mod are still with us, they really are not a difficult fix - before the flames start I've been modding in ofp/arma/arma 2 for a long time so do have a bit of a clue.

I realise that the dev team are beavering away on standalone, but would it be so hard to take half a day to fix the glitches, or at the very least issue some communications about what is going on?

Most of the people I played the mod with have quit playing, maybe they'll be back, but the main reason they state is the glitches.

Please fix them!

Graphic Glitches? Where?

Me, everyone in this forum and the devs have never heard of such things ...

Thanks for the Info

Half a working day is a long time - it would interfere with the many deadlines i'm sure the dev team are working towards right now. But yeah I get that it is frustrating being kept in the dark

You just gotta have patience and unfortunately your friends need to realize it is -i'm going to get hate for repeating it- an Alpha. I have played in many alpha that were so much more buggy than DayZ, and though some may not realize it discovering and logging these bugs are just steps required for a successful Beta and release. Though communication is a great thing to want and we could use a little more, i just like to think that they are busy making things nice and polished.

Keep in mind, this went from hobby-time mod to full blown job in a few months time.

Rocket had to assemble a Super team. Layout a game plan, and all that in a months time to attempt to hit an end of year release.

I do not care who you are. That is a full plate right there.

Plus you have to try to fit life and sleep in there.

It takes 10 minutes of the day to write a short thread to keep the community updated. It's poor that there has been such a lapse.

what is poor is the response on these forums. calm down, stop acting like you're owed so much.

we know what is going on, they are tightening up 1.7.3 after gamescom (and getting the standalone production rolling). it will be done when it is done.

Only thing that Rocket has confirmed is dogs. Really?

Soo many game breaking issues and the #1 priority is dogs.....

Posting updates causes more chaos.

If a time frame is not given, folks rant.

If one is given and not met, folks rant.

If one is given and and met, folks find something else to rant about.

If an update is given, and folks don't like the contents of the update, they rant.

It is just how it is.

Nah...the "be patient" line sounds a bit like fart-catching at this point.

Simple glitches need to be addressed, not excused. Otherwise it'll stay a perpetual alpha...which might be the case anyway.

A one-line forum post keeping fans in touch is not a difficult thing to accomplish, even if they are pressed for time.

PS. Was it really crucial to flog an Alpha at Gamescom for a week? I wonder if they had artifacting issues on the gameplay demos there

How does "the only thing confirmed" translate into "the only thing being worked on" in your mind?

The mod will never be more than an Alpha. It will get fixes I am sure, but nothing more. Rocket has already stated it will be handed over to the community at some point.

Can you classify a simple glitch? and how to fix it? Fixing code is not baby work. It takes time and more time, and half that time you break other things.

Hello there

Communication is key.

No timelines need be given, but if a once a week update saying "we are working on graphic issues" or "we are fixing tents" at least then folk know their issues are being addressed.

Even a vague "been fixing dayz bugs this week" would not stop the moaners but would show that there is life and movement forward.

It only take a few minutes once a week to make a post from a dev or community liasion.

If there are not regular posts on progression, there really should be. A simple but useful marketing tool.

remember TF2? said to be released "soon" in 1998, actual release in 2007. 2012 still a success story. things get done when they get done.

get a grip. at alpha and early beta, there is no point in hotfixing, instead even major gamebreaking bugs will be incorporated into the normal patch cycle. might even take longer than usual with parallel work of standalone. if you cant accept this, thats fine, just wait for final release of standalone, probably to come 2013 or 2014.

It takes 10 minutes of the day to write a short thread to keep the community updated. It's poor that there has been such a lapse.

It also takes 10 minutes of the day to write feedback on gameplay and bugreports, but 99% of the community dont do that, but rant instead that they cant enjoy a polished product.. go figure

What a bunch of whiney cry babies. I love how people like you OP expect this to be an AAA game and there to be constant communication and feedback.

Get over yourself you entitled chid.

Lets see, the 1.7.2.5 release notes were incomplete. There was no mention of the hero and bandit skins being back. Where there other changes that didn't get listed? Now it's 20 days later and no Pending Update thread for 1.7.3. Neither of these seem like very good signs.

Maybe they should wait eight more days, release the patch, wipe the hive, spawn everyone in the Cherno hospital, and declare the mod finished?

As I've said many times on this forum, the glitches/hacks/bugs/scripting won't be fixed for two reasons:

1. ArmA's engine is complete shit for the DayZ mod.

2. Why fix the glitches when you can leave the mod broken, ensuring millions of players are going to buy the standalone because they're tired of the broken mod.

Cha-ching, Rocket makes millions.

Only part of the whine that is legitimate is the lack of communication, and even then most would still rage about one issue or another. Making a game and fixing bugs, glitches, exploits, and hacking is never an easy process and so far it has only been about three weeks since a patch was released for this free mod. Maybe some better communication could help alleviate this whine threads, but I seriously doubt it would calm most of the people who are too dense to understand what a mod/alpha means for a small development team.

Constant communication? Nope, never mentioned that.

AAA game, nope never mentioned that.

Why don't you try reading people's posts instead of inventing them - ah I see that would be far too constructive. faceplam.

Hello there

I'm a massive fan of Iron Front which is a stand alone mod set in WW2, which utilises the same engine as DAYZ.

Now, I know there are some publisher problems happening at the moment, but the devs of the game also went quiet on their community.

So, for a long while there was a lot of conjecture and speculation on their forums to the games detriment.

If they had said to us as a community, "hey there, were having issues at the moment, more news will follow when we can release any info" that would have helped immensely.

Going silent is awful, it opens up the forums to misinformation, gossip and haters.

As an ex Marketing employee and knowing how easy it is to lose touch and indeed sometimes alienate the community, any lack of comms from the devs is a silly, but easily fixable mistake.

But, if they leave it too long, damage will be done. I hope they rectify it soon.

Agreed, when I worked in Support, I learned that a simple update along the lines "I'm working on it, currently checking such and such logs.." even when I had no clue yet on what the root cause was worked wonders. Takes 3 minutes to write, looks like a human is working on the problem and buys a lot of patience. Going silent is the worst thing you can do.
